Shortly before the turn of the Millennium I got in contact with a person living in Ellicott City who used to host a site called 'Art Deco Architecture' over our campaign to save the former Derby (UK) Bus and Coach Station from demolition and one of the many things she emailed me was a scan of a promotional leaflet for the Enchanted Forest. So, that's gone the way of Derby's station, then.
Looks real nice. Love the old stone houses. Remarkable recovery since the devastating floodings! Some stores had been boarded up because of flood damage but nicely done so.
I can't believe what I've just witnessed with this video! That host of the 'Art Deco Architecture' site whom I referenced elsewhere on your channel? You went along her road twice! It looks a very attractive place, so thank you so much for showing me where my fellow Art Deco fan lives while I sit here in Belper, UK!
Lovely tour, except, when running up Ellicott Mills Drive, when you came to Courthouse Drive you should have turned right instead of left to include a loop around the old Howard County Courthouse which would have dumped you back onto Main St/Frederick Road where you could have continued with the rest of your tour as recorded.
SO... AGAIN ... When are you going to do Columbia, Md? I love all of those video tours of communities near me, but wish you would cover my home town as well. It will be a refreshing change of scenery ...
It was 2016 and 2018. The historical district (downtown) is situated in a ravine that will receive runoff from the north, west, and south. That water funneling into the ravine is called the Tiber-Hudson Stream. To address this problem, Ellicott City is getting several mitigation projects, at least most of which should be done by 2025: • Extended North Tunnel: A 5,000 ft long tunnel that's 18 ft in diameter and up to 100 ft underground. • Demolition of 4 Lower Main Street Buildings: The buildings to be removed are Phoenix Emporium, Great Panes Art Glass Studio, Discoveries, and Bean Hollow. • Culvert: To be built under Maryland Avenue to help directly lead the Tiber-Hudson stream into the Patapsco River. • H7 and Quaker Mill Ponds: Will retain nearly 7.5 million gallons of stormwater combined. • T1 Pond: Will retain retain nearly 23 million gallons of stormwater. • NC3 Pond: All I could find is that this pond is currently in design; it'll probably be the last of the ponds to be constructed. NC stands for "New Cut". Those projects can be found here: www.ecsafeandsound.org/

Hi from Ukraine. Thanks for the video. My aunt lives in Ellicott City, I've never been there, so thanks for the little trip.
My memories of Ellicott City go back to the mid to late 50's. My family would go to Enchanted Forest Park, which is sadly long gone.

I hope Catonsville is next! Also wondering how many people will notice the giant eggplant in front of the welcome center.
Yes indeed it was next!
Awesome drive through Downtown Ellicott City

Yeah I debated going up that way but went left instead. Should’ve went with my first instinct.
Isn’t Elliot City that town that tends to flood a lot?
Yup that one but they’ve spent a ton of money rerouting the drainage. It’s a cool town!
Beautiful
Nice ride in Ellicott City MD
I was there some time ago, and I bought the most beautiful dress with mushrooms on it. I am not from America.

And in my case it's Olney, MD!

Columbia was posted here a month ago...
@@positively_broad_st3780 Oh ... ok ... found it. That was before I discovered your channel.
Ah yes, Ellicott City, MD...where the City got hit with Catastrophic Flooding in 2016 and 2018 due to heavy rain.
Makes sense. They built up everything right next to the river.
In both cases as I recall it was 1,000 year floods... occasionally lightning DOES hit the same place twice!

Courthouse Drive should be Court House Drive which is the correct spelling/name.
