A clock chime is a tune or a set of melodies that plays at intervals upon a set of bells to mark the passage of time. A variety of melodies exist, many associated with a particular location or bell tower that originated or popularized them. The popular melodies chiming out from Grandfather Clocks are produced by hammers striking tubular bells or gong rods. All clocks differ in tone and have their unique voices and even when the same melody is played there may be significant variations. Most Grandfather Clocks and Floor Clocks have chimes and it is important to pick a clock with the tune that is going to be pleasant to the ear.
Most common chime tune for the clocks is Westminster Chime. However, with the development, some clocks are made with multiple tunes that can be selected. Westminster, St. Michael's, and Whittington chimes are the most common combination for the triple-chime clocks. But it is important to keep in mind that there are different variations for different clocks.
I really love this & oh how it sparks up nostalgia. My family was stationed in Hanau, Germany when I was 10. That was in the 70's and my parents bought a clock that played these very 3 chime songs. We had a key to wind it up. Basically that was our alarm clock over the years. To the day my Dad still has it in his home. It works just fine. Thanks for posting.

These melodies have something special!
When these things chime it’s like they are singing to you. And it’s beautiful, I have one and being the stupid 12 year old boy I am I hug it😂😂😂
Dang
Thank you very much for this video. Just got my Grandfather's Grandfather Clock running again. He bought it new from the Emperor Clock Company in 1984, and had it for 23 years running in the foyer of his house before he died at 101. Then an Uncle had it for about the last 15 years. But AFAIK, my Uncle never set it up (I think wife did not like it??) and it was stored in the corner of a walk-in closet. When my Uncle passed. It came to my mother. We had to replace the weights which were lost, but it is running again. It had always been on Westminster Chimes at my Grandfather's house, but I wondered what the other chimes sounded like. I think we will stick to Westminster. Maybe it just familiarity, but I think I like it best.
Any Ideas on what is the most common chime people prefer of the three?
