A beautiful film doesnt attempt to be didactic or entertaining....it is open to interpretation....it leaves you wondering,questioning,pondering and philosophising....this is what this film actually does...thank you so much imtiaz sir....
"Freedom" is knowing that you are at ease with your conscience. How can you achieve that by cheating? Morally, what's portrayed in this movie does not make sense. Strange ideologies.
This needs part 2 , to know further story and how the decision by girl affected her life. An incomplete story without a proper msg can set bad example for society. Just to know the different views of people , and people liking the movie are not sufficient. Every movie doesnt need good ending like the real life but such incomplete movies are definitely not going to leave good impact on young minds. One of the main traits of a good character is trustworthiness.

The reason behind not understanding Imtiaz Ali Films is " People don't know themselves, they think about others rather than thinking about themselves, our mind and heart is created to create wonders and to experience a lot more things other than daily soaps and stupid romcom.. Once you get close to yourself, once you start to feel every little things about yourself, once you start giving some attention to every action and every good or bad feelings or emotions inside your heart you will feel more alive and then may be IF YOU ARE LUCKY YOU WILL UNDERSTAND HIS FILMS.

Imtiaz ali is much ahead of his time for people to comprehend what he is trying to say. The same people did not understand rockstar or tamasha. Give them a simple linear storyline of jab we met with a dose of comedy and they are happy.
Not may people can show different interpretations of life with the same premise. Imtiaz Ali is a master of that. Whenever he shows us the mirror of the society and the times we are living in, you feel uncomfortable.
He is posing an important question to us here, but we fail to recognise it which is should a person change with time? As the girl says in the end, "woh insaan hi kya jo waqt ke saath badal jaaye"... the director is asking us should our morals, beliefs or simply the person with you are be allowed to change since the times are changing?

I think, he tried to project the reality of affluent families in some cities of india. Though it indicated as an encouragement to cheating behaviour.

Well i think the story of a man/women discovering him/herself was very well portrait in tamasha and now anything that is remotely similar to discover-self movies reminds us of it.. Perhaps because that movie in a way removes the viewer from the seat and places him/her in front of the whole audience on the screen, effectively making him/her feeling embarassed because of own weaknesses. Timeless! Also, I am reminded of shahrukh's role as a junior artist in om shanti om and how he had to die first to achieve life.
very few filmmakers understand the nuances of life and relationships like Imtiaz Ali does. Although many will say it is the same old story and he must change his ways but that is what we as an audience lack and fail to comprehend. First of all its not a mainstream platform so why to make a film if a storyteller wont event experiment a little and go out of his ways ( however Imtiaz experiments in mainstream mediums as well ) and secondly it is about changing times which might not be completely reflective of todays society but does breathe somewhere in some places in some minds.
In my opinion it is the detailed and non serious( at several places ) voice over that brings down the film.
the title can be interpreted in 3 ways -
1) the movie reflects the time in reverse
2) the stereotyped gender roles are reversed
3) the photographer was always 'the other', not the 'way'.
i feel the concept is a little too progressive for most, so it ends up confusing or hitting them! very imtiaz ali, this short :)

To me it is by far one of the finest films ever made. If you look at it, he's shown this girl who believes in her freedom. Freedom to do anything that she wants and gives her the contentment and lover her life. Happiness is what you want. Marriage, manogamy is all what we are bombarded with all these years. With time should your belief, your approach to such things change? Should you believe in TRUE freedom or just live with the fact that you have to behave in a way after a point of time(after getting married) Love the depth in it and the brilliant execution and the fantastic way of depicting such a beautiful approach in mere fourteen minutes. You are a STAR sir!
