The Gamble Synopsis: Sandy comes to Ryan's rescue once again. Kirsten decides to invite Dawn to an elite Vegas Night, but she gets lost in the sauce, disappointing Ryan. Dawn believes Ryan is better off with the Cohens, leaving him with Sandy and Kirsten. Meanwhile, Julie is furious when she finds out Jimmy borrowed money from Kirsten, and she thanks Sandy, who is unaware of this.

I'm really glad he's actually real life Sandy Cohen. I feel like he was basically playing himself. Sandy character is just an epitome of how to be a good father.
I watched it in college. All the rooms on my floor had the show on. When the theme song came on you could hear it throughout the dorm. "California!" followed by laughter when we all realized we were watching the same thing. Later on, my dorm had watch parties.
Same! Our dorms had TV rooms and we would all gather in the TV room to watch it together. People from every major just enjoying the show together 😊

Definitely! As it goes on, I would love if they could bring in some of the more controversial guest stars, like Taylor Handley (Oliver), Ryan Donowho (Johnny) and Cam Gigandet (Volchok). I'd love to hear their perspectives as outsiders to the main cast and wonder if they know how divisive their characters were with fans.
Even characters like Zach, Lindsey, Trey, Hayley, Kaitlyn (Willa Holland version) would be cool! There's so much potential (if these actors are available/interested).

I love that he mentions the Max Greenfield crossover! It's a great highlight and honestly one of the best casting decisions!
I introduced my 17 year old niece to The OC last month, after starting it when I was 18 when it first came out all those years ago, and she is as obsessed with it as I was! She finished it within a few weeks, just goes to show how it still holds up today. Amazing! xx

I hope they will have Kelly on , I love Kirsten so much... she was such a pure character. While most wished for a dad like sandy, i wished for a mother like kirsten.
Coming from a home like Ryan‘s this show saved me so many times, it was truly my escape. I rewatch it so many times to this day.
I ugly cry in several episodes. Every time I rewatch it. Its such a relatable and touching story.
100% love this podcast. Praise to Rachel and Mindy for their commitment to this project and to their guest contributors for sure. This show has had such an effect on mine and my husband's life...We actually named our twin boys after the characters Seth & Ryan. Planned for one, but ended up with two! Kinda like the Cohens, right? Now they're 8 years old and here we are. This is just amazing to be able to re-watch this timeless series with your points of view and I am loving reliving the series with you guys. Thank you so much!

I grew up on the oc, however i was way to young to follow up on it and understand. Now that I'm older I just finished watching the Series on HBO and let me tell you what a breath of fresh air this show was. The fact that their was so much love for family no matter what, with no judgments is just amazing. Amazing show. I cant belive this podcast is 2 years old. thank you guys for this. it was needed.

@@shadygroves8252 Melinda has said that she still talks to Kelly. So, I think they're close. And yeah Sandy and Kirsten are one of the best couples of the show. They're chemistry is undeniable. My second favorite to be honest. And I love Kirsten, don't know if that's a popular opinion or not.

Peter brought some great energy to this episode, lot of good stories. Don't mind that they didn't go into the episode as much, especially seeing as this was the "first" episode. Pretty crazy he hadn't even watched the episodes before.
Not sure why I decided to rewatch recently but I'm glad I did. It's nice to see others have the same good memories of the show. It would be nice to go back into that world for a new season.
I found one of my favorite songs from the OC. It’s called Honey and the Moon.
I literally started watching the OC over the weekend, and there’s no shame that I’ve watched it over 15 times.
I heard summer and Julie were going to be temporary and I’m not glad y’all were permanents and were big parts in the show. ❤️
Just finished watching it for the first time a couple of weeks ago with my girlfriend (who seen it already) and WOW! As a 90's kid, I cannot believe I missed out on The OC when it first came out. Incredibly powerful, moving, emotional and more! The acting, character development, and storyline were fantastic! It felt so real and relatable. That ending/finale had me tearing up! #TheFeels
Glad you enjoyed it man. I remember watching it way back in 2003 when I was 13. Just put it on by chance and the first episode was about to begin. Fell in love there and then. One of the best pilot episodes and one of the best first seasons of any tv show

10 years ago I was at a very small rock bar in Toronto called Cherry Colas on like a Monday night - no one really in there. I look at the bar and it’s Peter sitting there! So I work up the courage to say hello because I really didn’t want to bother BUT I couldn’t let the opportunity slip by. I go up and say hi and ask to take a photo and he said, “well you’ll probably want her in it too” and I looked over and it’s Melinda! Like what are the freaking chances. Unfortunately, camera phones were terrible and the photo is super blurry lol. I was shaking I was so excited.
And this why The OC will always be my favorite show. Can't wait till you get to season 4 to show how much Julie's character developed. Love you guys!

This was sooo good. I love the earnestness that Peter Gallagher brought. What a classy man. I know you have all had impressive careers and it is just so nice to see that this project meant as much to you guys as it did the fans. Thank you ladies for another great episode this week!!
My dad is similar to Peter’s with the way I lived with my dad and he was dismissive but he never talked to me except to berate me. He chose to perpetuate the cycle of abuse instead of stopping it, so it makes me so happy to see someone who had a dismissive father and chose to be the opposite and be a great father himself. I just watched the oc for the first time since I’m 22 and wasn’t old enough when it was airing, and it’s also awesome to see how he actually is just like Sandy!
Honestly, I started watching again the oc when I found out about this podcast and now I’m at the second season and I’m just as excited as Peter, to be honest! First time watching it in English (always watched it in italian and the voices were so good that I got attached to them♥️) and kind of forgot how good this show is!

I think outside the US, Italy must have been the country where the show was most popular. Everyone I knew watched the show back then, and when Marissa died we discussed it for days. Iconic show - even if some parts don't hold up today (e.g. lack of diversity and some slut shaming). I finished re-watching the whole series yesterday and ended up watching the podcast videos as a way not to say goodbye to the series.
Always loved Peter as Sandy. I watched the show back when I was 8 when it aired. Seeing him being a parent is how I hope to be with my children

I completely agree with his look at The O.C this way after 9/11 which is how I also saw the show and how I feel about the post 9/11 America. Sandy was definitely the dad everyone wanted .

What was amazing about "The OC" was the cast just was bouncing this kinetic energy off each other, so much was crammed in a season, and the music gave a feel of the times. Also like this was the last era before smartphones, and seeing characters with a regular cellphone just puts it in a different time that upon rewatching it, it's hard for young people to imagine life without smartphones.
Sandy is back! Yees ♥ I can't wait for more, I totally love this Podcast series already!

I started watching this show when it aired in France just during my teen years, i would've never imagined that a show could touch someone so much. I was kind of that kid, I was an outsider in my world, never cared for and thanks to this show and some amazing people I was fortunate to meet, I grew to become the man I am now. So thank you Peter Melinda and Rachel and all the crew really from the bottom of my heart, I too would of wished to have a dad like Sandy.
