- Tanbur, one of the oldest musical instruments in the world has several shapes and kinds. One of the renowned places for crafting this instrument is located in the west of Iran in Kermanshah province.
At summer 2022 I had the privilege to interview one of the best known luthiers in the region, Master Bera khani. We talked about how they choose the wood, how they make the instrument and nearly everything you may want to know about Tanbur.

This is great, I love the tanbur (or tanboor, or tanbour, etc etc lol) and while I'm learning Farsi (and other languages) its so nice to be able to see this video in my native tongue. Thank you!
Thanks for watching 🙂

It would be lovely to have the information of Bera Khani store, I would love to look at his produce if its possible online.
He has an Instagram page. Here is the link. If you wanted to purchase, I can help with translation.

I am very happy to be able to enjoy your video, since it is the first one that is at least in English!
very useful and detailed information
I would love to visit that shop and learn!
one a question: how do you tune or play for tarz and for barz? 4 and 5 interval? can you show the notes?
Except 3-4 videos, nearly all my videos are in English. Thanks for the kind words.
Look, if you tune the twin strings in G, you need to tune the upper string in C but one octave lower (5th) or in D (4th).

@@TheBoxBand merci, you're too kind!
Thank you for this great explanation. Can you tell the distance between strings and soundboard at the place where the fingers brush the strings and, if it isn’t the same, how high the bridge? Again, many thanks for this great work.
Thanks for the kind words. the bridge (saddle) is around 5 mm and the action of the strings where you pluck is around 3 mm. if you need photos or more information please contact me by email.
❤❤❤
Im surprised you didnt mention Kurdish Tanbour! you should not be preoccupied
There is no Turkish or persian Tanbur and what you are talking about is the Kurdish one. You do not have the right to distort the history and the art of a nation just by sharing a video on RUclips and most importantly for you who are not an expert in this regard. Please be respectful in sharing your toughts.
In Tuekey its call saze its not Turkush !! Why put wrong infomation here
