- High end tin snips go head to head in an attempt to be crowned the greatest of all time.
I'm being extremely critical in order to determine which ones are the best but you wont regret buying any of these 3. Bessey snips are not the most versatile but currently seem to be the most durable. Malcos appear to hold an edge longer than Midwest but only use a nylon locknut as opposed to Midwest which threads the inside of the blade as well as having the lock nut.
*Midwest and Malco are currently tied for 1st place. The deciding factor will be if the Malcos make it past the 1 year mark without getting loose or needing to be sharpened. They still have the potential to outlast the Besseys.

Basically can't go wrong with Malco or Midwest, but keep in mind most HVAC guys are told that Midwest is the best, and have never even heard of Malco. Try both if you can and don't just follow the herd. You can do an absurd amount of research like I did and decide that Malco is technically better, but the cost may not really be worth it. Do whatever makes you happy.
I do aerospace and defense industry sheet metal. The precision in my work rarely comes down to the shears/snips I use since I'm cutting with waterjet/punch/edm/laser, but I still want the best that money can buy. Malco makes the best, in my opinion. The price difference might not be worth it to people working in HVAC or with materials thinner than 16ga. Choose what works for you. Malco is the highest quality brand though if you ask me.
I have Midwest straightoffset lefts with the yellow handle as my favorite daily snips. They are very similar to the offset reds midwests has but with a thinner blade tip and better maneuverability. I do like the besseys too i have all three set. I didn’t like the malco max2k OL or there bulldogs compared to Midwest. But what i have found to have snips last long is to always clean them and oil them after most uses. I hate wisses
But hand seamers and 5 blade crimpers are malco by a longshot

Sorry Lenox was first worst and then Milwaukee was the second worst not Midwest sorry, but the regular Midwest snips are not much better than the cheaper brands anymore quality has gone down in the last 3 to 5 years
Lenox was not mentioned. Midwest are still better than the value brands. After years of abuse the malco snips are still as good as new. I'll have to make a new video. Currently Malco is #1 by far(even the ones made in taiiwan) bessey gets 2nd and Midwest 3rd. If I was just doing ventilation I'd buy wiss and give them a dose of red locktite. Since I'm doing doing copper work, siding, coping and flashing I prefer to have the highest quality snips and wont waste money on anything but malco.
Snips last six months to a year tops in my experience
Lenox was the worst, midwest is second worse...... nowadays it's not so much the hardness of the blade as it is the quality of the spring and the bringing the snips starts to get weak the only way to make the Snips spring back and actually be useful is to loosen the nut a slight slight bit which in turn makes cutting worse so it's mostly the spring for me in the last 5 years that's the problem and I've tried probably eight different brands from cheap to expensive
Not to say its impossible but I've never had a spring lose strength, they snap in two. If they r hard to open its because ur nut is selftightening. U need to clean it and put some locktite, then adjust the nut so they just open. any looser than that and they'll cut like %$@#. A bit of oil every now and then will go a long way too

What about Wiss? Made in USA. Great quality. I also think they’re probably the oldest being started in 1930s?
This particular video is more for someone who wants the absolute top of the line snips. Overall, with the price in consideration, the newer Wiss snips (since 2019) are hard to beat, but they require a dose of threadlock and they still cheap out on parts which are imported from china.

Wiss snips aren't of the quality they used to be.. Are they still US made? 🤔
@@justinmcellin5722 I found some stock on the shelf a couple of months ago that were US made. There were two versions and one was clearly an older version than the other. I don't recall if I saw any non-US made ones since I was completely ignoring them if they existed, but do remember seeing US made from imported materials. I also remember thinking it looked liked that they were at least US made until recently and that it only said it on the packaging but not on the tool itself like it used to. I went with the older version because it was much flatter whereas the newer ones have the more vertical shape that is much more common amongst the Chinese makes. They worked, I guess. Definately not great. Then I got a set of a month ago Malcos which were clearly looked better and also clearly worked better, but cost 3x as much.
For hanging duct, Midwest and Malco all the way, but roofing and bodywork? You cant go wrong with European made.

Grinder works well and Midwest also has snips that are heat treated to RC-60 for cutting hard metals - Model MWT-SS6510C
use your buddies or the apprentices snips! S.S. is brutal on any snips including the ones rated for S.S. I have a pair set aside just for S.S. and they get replaced after every job. It's just the cost of that material.

I bought Malco AV's made in China not USA. Another mail order mistake.
That's too bad. I have a pair of Malcos that are made in Taiwan and they work surprisingly well
