Thanks, I accidentally magnetised a CRT gun with a magnetic screwdriver when I loosened the yoke screw. Gonna try this with another WIP screens coil I can borrow.
I bought a cheap degausser wand off of Amazon cause my consumer CRT will develop spots. My question is, how strong are these wands and can I use them in the same room where I have game consoles that have hard drives? Is there a danger of killing drives or wiping information?
I've managed to degauss a few with 1) a refrigerator magnet and 2) a speaker magnet (from a guitar amp). My Pac-Man needed it... and the fridge magnet was a pac-man bottle opener... thought it was cool to fix Pac-Man with a Pac-Man.
Is it possible to degauss with the monitor off? Reason being my arcade monitor is either powered by a raspberry pi or the original 2005 pcb which has an sd card. I've heard degauss coils can fry more modern electronics. I think the tube is magnetized whether powered on or not but not sure.
Awesome video. Gonna try to degausse my CRT monitor with a salvaged coil of another one. Quick tip: don't put your CRT close to a large metal body, like one of those file cabinets, even if it's not magnetized. Apparently they can amplify and reflect the CRT's magnetic field and screw the colors :P
I built a degauss wand by sticking a 25 watt light bulb in series with the coil to limit the current draw. The magnetic field it creates isn't as strong, so it takes a little longer to work, but the coil stays nice & cool the entire time.
Ive got a wand works reasonable well, ive got a 19" tube that wont correct it self with the wand not even a home made loop will clear it, i have a patch of purple in the lower left, the tube came from a tv that was stupidly sent through the post with no packing, so i suspect its either been dropped quite hard or its spent a of time by a speaker in storage etherway its a screwed tube, i can get most of it out using the purity rings but still isn't quite right, its such a shame because the tube is burn free and registering right up in the top level of green on all 3 guns as good healthy tube on me bk Rejuvenator.
Awesome video! I have a monitor with a corner that is black (maybe 1x1x1.5in triangle). It starts pretty big but gets smaller as the tube warms up. It never competely goes away tho. any thoughts as to what is going on? The rest of the monitor is great...colors crisp and clear. Thanks!
Quick question Jason, did you connect the gator clip at the end of your video to the top heat sink/ground of your neck board transistor? As mentioned earlier you can’t see where you connect to because of RUclipss advertisements .... Thanks man, Adam
I`v all so heard if your using a single coil off a monitor you can put a hair dryer or light bulb in series with the coil to add a load so the coil dose in over heat

Thanks a lot, very helpful!
Good Tips Thanks
great vid man. was looking to buy one, now maybe I'll make one 🤘

I'm in the same boat. I'd suggest moving the television outside away from everything and do your fix then bring it back on better safe than sorry.

Quick question - I got a Hp p1230 that displays grey pixels as green. Is deGaussing going to help? I got a 2"x2"x1" neodymium magnet lying around...

Awesome tips, as usual Jason! Sadly, couldn't see the last 20 seconds, where you show the crock clips connected, because of the RUclips video links.
Yes, pretty much sucked after 12 minutes of improvised talking.

Excellent, love the homemade rig, ill have to see if i can scrounge something up from an extra monitor i have.
Hopefully will work for my hat trick cocktail .the jbl magnets are big in this game
Hi. My CRT TV has this problem but can't degauss it. Every time my TV is on, the problem returns...

You can do it with a fridge magnet, find the right direction and sweep towards the edge.
Great video!!
How do I use the wand type? Point it like a wand or hold it flat?

yup the top tab of the transistpr
Arcade Jason awesome thank you! And thanks for keeping this hobby fun!
Awesome video.

uhfnutbar1 yes that would also work
uhfnutbar1 you could also use a dimmer switch
