      it all points to the regulators not rewarding the big three for not building the smaller pickups....would save the US economy on fuel use for these smaller trucks....but nope, the sliding scale on fuel economy punishes the fuel economy of smaller trucks out of the market. best truck 4 cycle 8 foot box carry 500 to 1000 pounds, most working man trucks dont need to be 100 000 dollar monsters.

      @@blito3wotSeveral have max speeds of 30-60mph, little weight, and no crumple zones. I don’t think giving a ton of people these is exactly a bright idea unless you force them to stay off both state highways and interstates, which is difficult on its own. Yeah they’re good for fuel economy, but they’re made for Japan, which isn’t exactly known for the big, high speed streets like we have here. All in all, I’m not saying you shouldn’t, but I’m saying it’s probably better to think about it a bit more first.

      Unless you mean banned from certain roads, then no we don’t. They have zero crumple zones and if they get hit by any larger car at 55mph the kei truck driver will most often die.
      If you want them in cities or on farms, sure go for it, but you’re gonna need a lot of new paperwork (which the government isn’t exactly known for doing) just to give them specific regulations and laws. That’s why 1500 type trucks are so popular with brands now, because they circumvent a lot of regulations given to smaller utility vehicles, along with smaller vehicles in general.

      I have a similar (but much older) one, but I would never use it on Ohio roads, too many rednecks who would crash into it on purpose just cause its not a Ford (or Chevy, or Dodge). I love it for farm use, tho; way better than a Rhino or Mule.

    • @sergeantbigmac
      @sergeantbigmac Год назад +4

      @@cincinnati4391 Newer US vehicle regulations have both led to much safer vehicles and have also stifled innovation. Im of the personal opinion some of these regulations especially on imports should be eased a little bit. My solution would not be to ban this segment, but allow their sale with the requirement the dealer informs the seller there is a higher likelihood of their death in a collision. Make them sign a legal waiver or something. That way the driver can make an informed decision about their own life choices.
      Like another person said how can motorcycles, slingshots and certain ATVs be road legal without batting an eye but all of a sudden a little truck with "no crumple zone!!!" is the epitome of terrible design?

    This is wonderful. Unfortunately the American public doesn’t know what’s good for them. This (as well as long bed, reg. cab pick ups) are what contractors need to actually do productive work. But the American public has all but ignored actual work trucks as of late. I’m tired of seeing people buy double cab pickups and then complain that they can’t fit standard 2x4 or plywood sheets in the back. Bring back regular cab pickups with 8 foot beds and this type vehicle.

      I imagine it would be tiring worrying about what other Americans are doing. I have a family and love my mega cab. You do realize that you can fit Plywood in a 6 ft. bed right. All you have to do is drop the tailgate, and if you do that you can haul 10 ft. lumber easily by securing it with ratchet straps. Anything larger and a trailer works well since all trucks have a hitch receiver. I bet if you really think about it, the only people you've ever heard complain about truck bed size are the imaginary ones in your head and you. Most of my family and friends have extended cabs and I've never heard anyone complain, let alone to the point I'd be tired of hearing about it.

    I worked at a golf resort with 2 courses for just under 30 years. When I started there in 1990 they had 3 Daihatsu Hijets. They were 1986 models and were 2 wheel drive with 4-speed (governed at 25 mph). The governor was ignition cut-off. The engine was as smooth as can be, and the transmission and clutch always operated beautifully. One of them had no doors or roof and that one was a tan or beige color. The other two were white. All three of them had the same sides and tailgate as the one in the video. The two with doors were only used by one guy each, but the one with no doors could be used by anyone, first come, first serve. I always preferred it over the Cushmans, because it drove so nicely. I think all three were gone by the 2000s. Anyway, I watched this video just out of curiosity, because I saw a Hijet being towed on a trailer when we were on a road trip recently.

      @@Clayson000 It's a shame, I am pretty sure they are doing this to outlaw ATVs and possibly side by sides driving on road, but these Kei trucks are entirely different vehicles. They should rework it to instead say 4 wheeled vehicle without enclosed cab. There's tons of ATV and SXS models with 1 liter or larger engines. ATVs/SXS are more of a nuisance since they are not designed to be road legal at all with regards to lighting and exhaust. In contrast, this truck shown has collision avoidance and auto start/stop for JDM road legality. Kei trucks aren't nearly as safe as American cars but these trucks also aren't able to be driven on the interstate where most heavy truck traffic exists. Same risk as riding a moped IMO.

    Fuiji heavy industries make everything for 4 divisions of theirs. Toyota, Subaru performance cars, Daihatsu and Lexus which is now a separate division on its own. I have been owning a Daihatsu Terios 4 wheel drive from 2003 onwards. Great vehicle. The engine is a Toyota engine as well as several parts all from Toyota. Oil filters Toyota. Understandable since both are made by Fiji heavy industries.
