Great job, no spin, no drama, just practical advice :-)
Simply Excellent, Amazing, Clear, Transparent, ... etc. Congratulations to the speaker.
Something is not clear. If you have a bunch of pages: home-en-us.html, home-en-ca.html, home-en-au.html, home-en-nz.html, home-en-gb.html... etc... and if all of them have link="alternate"... Google will choose one canonical URL from all of the, right? Yes, because the contents in all of them are 95% similar, just change little amount of words, right? Google read them as "same" content, for Google all of them are same. Is it like that? In your example you gave link="alternate" to all of the, why you didn't give ONE canonical to any of them?
Interesting question. I wonder if you figured that out?
hreflang is also useful for the scenario 'one language several regions' (e.g. en-ca vs. en-au vs. en-us vs. en-uk).
So the language preferences can be specified as a subdomain in the URL? I thought it was reserved for only specifying countries.
If you are targeting audience in more than one language; then you might benefit from this. If -on the other side- you offer content in only one language and you are not planning to expand to other languages, then you don't need it.
I don't agree with Google's point of view. The accept-language header should be used to display the right language and there should not be ugly things in the URL like /fr/ or /en-US/.
Now my question is : is it better to use the subdomain or the path strategy to differentiate my URLs ?
should it be added to all pages or Just the home page ?
As it is mentioned in the video, you should add the hreflang in all pages except the duplicative pages (like the ones that include session ids in the url)
i think to no page tbh :)
I have question. In which language my brand will appear? If I set-up hreflang in Latvian, but I am using brower in English, and I am searching my brand in Latvia.
Hi, I got multistore. CMS pages have different URLs, but products have the same global link, although content is slightly different. Do you have any suggestions how could I add href in such case? Thanks a lot!
Great bundle of answers :) thanks!
You could help me even more by integrating the further references in the description below or integrating clickable links into the video.
That makes sense for different language, but what about English US and GB? I thought that duplicate content was a big no no... If we have www.example.com and www.example.co.uk having the same content and add the proper hreflang on each page of each website, does it mean that Google would actually understand that the .co.uk site has been created for UK visitors and the .com for the US (and therefore "accept" that the content is duplicated?)
I have only English website. If your website is very big and millions of user from all around the world came to it every month then only you will need different version of website.
Okay, and what about html5? If I'm using this (html lang="en") atribute for each language version of my website, do I still need to use tag (link ahreflang="en")?
Thanks!
God bless you, this really helped me a lot... so many published post online misleading but with this I think am Good to Go...
Hey. I have questions. I have website in 3 languages - Latvian, Russian and English. When I am searching my brand in google "Cityfinances" in my country Latvia, 1st result shows up is in English. What should I do to make that website shows up in Latvian?
8:59 - "backslash backslash?" Whoops. ;-)
This was correct..
@@StickeryouMakeitStick Do you know what a backslash is ? xD
Try saying "rel alternate href lang" 5 times fast
So well explained! Thank you!
Google doesn't recognize the lang attribute. you need to use href lang is you have multiple sites with the same languages in different regions that are on the same TLD. If you have different TLDs for each region then you shouldn't need to worry about it.
think about the markets relevant for you. Do a google search on that market (e.g. if you target english-speaking users in canada, go to Google Canada, switch to English and issue your search). If your foreign ranks higher than the canadian version of your page you might need hreflang.
Hi Maile or Someone else, Can you update this content in the world we live in today, 4/10/2020?
Got it! Thank you very much!
I get the general idea although I am not an IT professional. How do I know if I need rel="alternate"hreflang on my page as a small businessperson?.
Good question .....first of all check how your international website is performing in other regions you are targeting ( Canada, UK, Brazil ) in google Analytics ,assuming you have one set up for your website .if your website is not performing well in international regions, it might be that you are not showing up in search results ( google searches ) for that region, language, services that users are searching for in that their local LANGUAGE hence consider implementing hreflang
Thanks for the lesson ^^
Hello please I need your help in *emergency. I am in a difficulty* because I manage a website with a lot of competitors so *I take texts of other languages I translate them I correct them I add titles I remove the incomprehensible words or unnecessary paragraphs* to have a text New, readable and especially adapted to the reader of this language.
*Is this a SPAM? duplicate content ? have I any google penalties ?* if yes, how to get out of it please ? Since a year I do this strategy and the website dont progress No gain I too much invest without winning anything ?? what is the cause please? I am willing to pay someone to help me because I will lose my post which is my only source of incomes :(
Well, it's seem really awesome, let me know the result after implementation..
I disagree. Especially across domains (e.g. a company in different countries, having a different TLD for each of them) this annotation as an added signal is quite valuable.
Good lesson, But the Arabic subtitles in this video is too bad
