    Avoid month names in dates when not in English. Oracle has for some languages changed the binary language definition files between versions previously meaning the format of shortened month names can change between versions to avoid that becoming a problem avoid formats that expect a month name or if needed use the 3rd argument of to date to specify the NLS options for conversion you want. One of the languages affected by this was Hungarian. The facilities to create our own NLB files using NLS workbench was removed in later versions as Oracle stopped including this

    Something that would be nice to see is more dates in ISO8601 format.
    Doing so avoids month/day ambiguities.
