DUDE!! Thank You ! I just saved a 2011 from mindless neglect, it was stored 6 yrs with 86 octane gas in it. had to toss the tank, carb, filter, and pump. It runs but I couldn't figure that bogging out. Tomorrow I'll do a reset and give it a try, but you described exactly whats going on.
Great work and very thurough. I read about these for weeks and All I read was great reviews, reliability, longevity, great fuel efficiency....I finally buy one a 16 in mint condition with only 132 miles on it and its bogging. Put fresh gas, some seafoam, new battery, did your reset which is awesome and its much improved. Idles great low end is great which at first it kept surging on startup, but mild throttle and holding the bike around 20 mph it stumbles and spits. Im thinking carb next if it doesn’t straighten out. I checked airfilter fitment as well. New coolant coming today for a swap.Im just amazed that there are so many people with the same issues its a little disappointing on honda since they have been running this setup forever. I also wish it used the old cdi with manual choke and eliminating all the electronics. We will see.... Thumbs up on the vid and earned yourself a new Sub👍
For the love of pete! I wish I had know about the throttle position reset months ago! Thank you. I always wondered what that extra connector in the battery box was for.
I bought a orange 2011 with an aftermarket exhaust...had the same issues, did the same fixed and works great now...the rest of my small bogging is probably the exhaust that removed all back pressure
The way the fuel pump operates on the Ruckus is a poor design. Its very surprising that Honda hasn't improved on this over the years. It seems to have issues after even short periods of time. It also doesn't help that the battery is needed to drive the fuel pump making the kick start unusable without a battery.
Thanks for the info, I just bought a couple of used ruckus that needs help not as bad as yours. Thanks for the information on the reset on the ECM didn’t know about that. I’ll try and see if it stops my issue of bogging.
Hello KOLEK!!! I'm happy I could help! I have another video showing all the things I did prior to the reset as well. Maybe this will help you too! Welcome to Ruby the Elite!
I just picked a 2003 that had the carburetor taken off and in a box. I cleaned and installed the carb. I just couldn’t get the idle correct. I’m sure this will fix my problem.
I go through what it took to get this almost brand new (severely abused!) Honda scooter back in fine running order. Side note: I reference page 17-10 of the Honda service manual for the ECM reset instructions. Please contact Honda if you cannot successfully perform the reset for further repair suggestions.
I disconnected the negative terminal from the battery for about 6 weeks during my holiday and reconnected it when I returned from my holiday and my 2010 Honda Ruskus started well and runs fine. So, do I only need to do an ECM reset when I replace the battery but no need for negative terminal diconnection?
Hello, i have a 2016 ruckus, I jumped the one wire to the battery the reset one, any recommendations my bike cold start surges somewhat like the choke is trying to learn itself again but once it’s warm it runs fine, coolant is topped off, carb clean, new gas fuel filter and air filter new battery, any suggestions greatly appreciated, Thankyou
Have a 2011, custom stretched ruckus and this little red clip is not an option. Do you know what its hanging from? I’m thinking they just taped it with something else attached.
If you have a NCY cdi then the red plug goes into the wire harness that NCY provides. There should be another plug though they give you that's not being used. If there isn't then I have no idea what the person did.
Great information. I am very new to ruckus, have a few MIni Bikes, picked up a 2020 Ruckus with alot of mods, TRS Stage 2, air box delete, ect. It runs ok once warmed up but hard starting, staying idle without giving gas. Stalling ALOT. The owner stated it sat for months, bought with 37 miles with all the mods already installed a cycle shop, now about 150 miles. I was going to pull the fuel outta gas tank, oil change, check plug, adjust idle up, I assume it has been rejetted. My question is can I change the fuel filter without pulling the tank out? It has the frame brace and it looks like a pain in butt to remove that..
@@rubytheelite I pulled the tank, emptied the old fuel, replaced spark plug, oil, fuel filter, fuel pump, pulled the carb cleaned it but couldnt get the electrical connectors off the carb they were smoked and trying to strip, pulled the jets and cleaned them with carb cleaner, didnt have the tool, multiple ecm reset its still doing the same F'ing thing, has to be the jets and or the carb, I hate this thing! It will try to stay running with carb cleaner going down the carb with the air filter off.
Is the method for reseting the ecm different if i have the ncy aftermarket cdi installed? Because the open red connector you used to plug your wire into is currently plugged in to the cdi. Interestingly enough the ncy cdi also provides connector that remains open. Do i disconnect the red plug[blue w yellow stripe] to use it for the reset? Or do i try the reset using the provided new open connector?
Hey Jasonsmetal89! I honestly have no idea what would happen to the ECM if you tried it while using the NCY CDI. That's a great question for NCY. They should be able to tell you since they developed the device. If they can't give an honest answer I would think twice before using their product.
From what I've read from NCY. The new connecter that is unused provided becomes the red connector. I haven't installed an NCY CDI to give an update but after research it seems logical.
Hey bro, im working on my friemds first gen zoomer 50cc. It had the same bogging problem and full power. Took battery cover off , there is a red wire but it has 4 wires coming from it. 4 points. Not sure what to do can u help? Is it still possible to do the reset? Thanks lad
I can only suggest you follow exactly what I do in my 21 minute "bogging" video. If you are unable to replicate what I do then you may have larger concerns. I don't want to give you any speculating advice. There are too many possible issues.
If you run the reset and follow the process completely and it doesn't run as expected you will need to contact Honda for further evaluation. I can only give you the advice that pertains to the service manual.
Yes, you can use the ECM reset on the 2003 Ruckus. I have used the reset multiple times now and have never had an issue. I even show it in my long bogging video being demonstrated. You have a short somewhere on that red cable is what I assume caused your battery issue, not the procedure.
It's not the miles, it's the fact that ethanol in gas gets all clogged in it and then no longer works. Let your Ruckus sit like mine did for 5 years then let me know how well yours works.
$300 including the orange plastics and decals. $1400 for the bike. After the title being moved into my name $1900 total investment. The bike looks like a brand new bike now! Only 300 miles.
