Shame on the IOC for passing the "Eddie the Eagle Rule" in 1990 which specifically targeted Eddie from ever competing in the Olympics again. What he accomplished in such a short period of time is phenomenal! He set broke the British jumping records every time he jumped. To be able to land both a 70 meter and 90 meter jumps is an amazing achievement for him. He belonged in every Olympics after cause his spirit is the Olympic spirit. It is a joy for most to just compete knowing full well that a medal is out of reach. He competed cause he truly loved the sport.
He's such a humble guy!! He doesn't even care that he was last. He's just so happy to be competing and doing his best!!! His optimism is almost tangible!!! What an inspiration!!
I know, he really is. I just watched the movie, and if it's an accurate portrayal, as it seems to be, lovely lovely bloke .... can't believe he;s 23 or so here though, he does look about 40!
PSProduktions He didn't see it as "being last". He saw himself as "the best British ski-jumper and all-time British record-holder". The fact that he came from a country which had no ski-jumping team, no ski-jumping hills, no trainers, no sponsors and started training when he was past 20 when you have to start aged 6-7 and train for *years* to become good is nothing short of amazing. That he made it all the way to the Olympic Games with everything speaking against him was incredible.
2 things that people remember from Calgary 88. Jamaican bobsleigh team, and Eddie the Eagle. Not many remember one person that won golds in them games.
He comes across as a fun guy, so positive, someone you would like to drink a beer with, he is not pretending to be someone he is not. So down to earth and funny. Adorable, I learned about him while reading online about history of the Olympics and then the movie. What a great guy
The guy’s a legend. Watch the movie and understand his story 👍 If he was Aussie he’d have been cheered from the start, trained by our AIS and sponsored properly.
Not been so many UK takers for the jumping since Eddie did his stuff. He had some nerve to do what he did and now years later he once again has the last laugh. I hope he got paid well, he earnt every penny. Sitting on that bench 90 meters up and then letting go......... no thank you. Braver than brave.
1988 was the last Olympics I paid attention to. What with the drug cheats issue and the way they treated Eddie Edwards. He was British number one record holder. The Olympics stinks.
I was at this World Cup and it was awesome. Still have the tshirt with Eddie on the back. Those were the good old days when ski jumping was a fairly relevant sport here in Canada. Big Thunder was closed in 95 after the world championships. There are 24 year old trees now on that landing hill. Spent every weekend there of my childhood. Such a sad waste. It was a big deal here in Tbay when Eddie came here. Too bad the movie was crap.
Yes, it's real. And Canadians have claimed him like a mascot. He's just like Bubbles, from Trailer Park Boys. Except if Bubbles could ski down a really big hill and fly many yards. I mean meters
Nick Geschke Thanks! My dad says I have a good sense of humor. He also cuts my hair. And make sure you download that new movie Eddie the Eagle. It's not only good. It's really good. It should win Best Picture at the Oscars honestly

Who'd thought, corruption at the IOC...
Yeah I know rules change etc, but typical IOC losers, Olympics are a sad joke compared to what they used be...
Packfan if he would be from differnt country, he would participate still now. OC would love to see other flags on opening ceremonial...

The guy chased his dream regardless of ability. He didn’t listen to the bullies and people who simply want to destroy a trier. He’s an inspiration.
Btw you need a lot of courage for this particular sport in the first place...
I just seen the movie, and I just wanted to watch the Winter Olympics and Eddie in all his glory! Especially the 1988 jumps!
What a good heart this man has. RESPECT!!!!!
Eddie is so positive yet never gives up
Well the guy didn’t excel at his event but he’s got a huge heart...
The real Eddie is even more hilarious.. Good job mate!
A truly special human being. legend.
It's so great that he knows he's bad but he still tried his best and tried all in.
He is not bad. Its just that he is not a professional jumper. Doesn't mean he is bad.
Well I know very well eddies story. I think there's language what I meant because english is not my 1st languages
Eddie was such a thrill at the 88 Olympics that the main jumpers weren’t much cheered on. Eeeedddiiieee!
