In my walk with the Lord, I've seen my own sheer incompetence in acting out his Goldy character without the leading of the holy spirit. If someone criticizes me for my flaws, I just use that as motivation to get back in the word of God and prayer to become better. To say it's not a matter of you following God is a very foolish and ignorant thing to say. The Fruit of the spirit does not include fornication, bearing children with strangers, loneliness, domination and control, nefarious deeds without God spirit warrant, adultery, spoken direct vicious vocal words. E.g forced pregnancy marriage homelessness murder or prostitution are not fruits of the holy spirit. Peace and Amen
The works vs fruit thing? And that we are not to "work on " the fruit but rather just let our closeness with the Holy Spirit do that job ? .... Not sure that's true. here's why. .... We are to be "transformed by the renewing of our minds", right? .... And as such we are instructed to "Take captive every thought" right? .... That is "We", are to take control of our thoughts. This is why it says... "In your anger do not sin" , yet later says that we should "rid OURSELVES of anger" .... because anger starts as a thought.(so far we haven't sinned) ..... we take that thought captive and what ends up nesting in our minds or comes out of our mouths is holy spirit fruit and not sin ....and so we "Bless our enemies, and do not curse them" ....... As for "Attitude" ? To judge a person on the basis of "attitude" without manifested bad fruit ( ie: all the things we are told to get rid of... like anger, rage, malice , slander etc ) is not right. "Invisible bad attitude" based on what? Facial expressions? Here's how this can pan out: So a topic is spoken about at a meeting ....... someone in the meeting goes away and starts to think that they ought to check on the veracity of what was being taught ..... they do so.. and discover contradictory stuff in the Bible... and the following week, they come back and ask the person about it (kindly!) ...... next thing you know... the "noble" person (acts17:11) is branded with "a bad attitude" .just for checking ( like Paul tells us to) and asking ...... Also, it says that we are to "bear fruit in season". We can have many seasons in a single day which require us to bear fruit....... not all of them "come at once" ... an "act of kindness" isn't quite the same as "Do not dishonor others" ( which we are told lies within the definition of love) yet we may face these two seasons in a single hour. Moreover...... the bearing of fruit is not only the REAL "great commission that applies to everyone everywhere at all times" but is also a sign that we are God's Children. It's all about bearing fruit. ( "and this is to my father's glory that you bear much fruit showing yourselves to be my disciples" ) . If we are regenerate children of God, this will be possible. But we have a role in this battle that "is not of flesh and blood" and it can be very practical. ............ always remembering... the shoes of the gospel that we wear is made out of grace... so no guilt trips.. just a constant and wonderful "renewing of our minds" ... ...
