My father was the mess sergeant for the 432nd Fighter Squadron 475th Fighter Group, 5th Army Air Force. The 475th veterans built a museum at Chino and it is part of the Planes of Fame Museum. My brother and I donated a full field kitchen to this museum in our father's memory. It is a full kitchen with 3 M-1937 filed ranges plus 2 of the smaller ranges with the same burners spare parts for same, mess kits, cooks cutlery, lanterns, tinned utensils, bread pan for the M-1937, lister bag
. On the day of the grand opening and the Group's reunion, my brother and I pulled the kitchen out of the display and fed the reunion group lunch. We fed 150 people plus the staff at the museum. It sits quietly now waiting for another meal to be made. It can feed 300 at a time.
That M-1937 has definitely has been converted to propane. Near the end you can see the hose coming out of a substatial wood crate behind the stove. The other stove is fed by gasoline as it would have been during the war. The 475th Fighter Museum has a couple of burners for that stove new surplus old stock. They are not on display but are stored away as they will not work on the M-1937 Field Range..
The original burner unit after it is lit and air pressure is brought back up to 45psi the heat from the burner will maintain the air pressure or increase it if the burner is set too high (which can lead to an explosive situation) will maintain air pressure until the fuel runs out which is about 6 hours on 2 gallons of coleman fuel.Flame adjustment is the key to keeping this burner running smoothly and not melting your square head or worse.
If you are using gasoline how to you have it hooked up to the range burner. It is not correct to have a rubber hose going in the front of the stove. the slide doors should be open so you can keep a eye on the air pressure. How to you keep up the air pressure?
@oldsweep1 I am not entirely sure how the ladies have the range stove(s) set up with the fuel line. All I can tell you is it actually works, as shown in the video.
@generalbellic The California Historical Group doesn't bias towards anybody with health conditions, but there is plenty of warning regarding the possibility of injury. Generally, people with asthma don't get involved in the hobby because the outdoor conditions are unexpected. However, I have seen members with fairly severe allergies re-enact. As long as you are prepared, know your personal limitations, and use common sense, you'll be okay.
is it period correct to have women working front-line cooks? Just curious. I know that German soldiers operated their own field-kitchen. Just wondering, because I reenact German and I have no idea how this American stuff works.
We are still around. There aren't any battles happening like there once used to be, hence the lack of videos. Check out www.Easy39th.com for the latest info.

Incredible discovery!

@CP938 The range stoves are original and operate on ordinary gasoline. You can see the fuel line connected to a jerrycan at 1:42.
We will certainly try to the next time we get the camera out to an event.
Could u do a video of the medical tent or some medics at work please
Sorry, the footage you see is all we have of the stove in operation.
Hmm ... very interesting!!

Did anyone notice that there was a tarantula crawling by at 00:28 and again at 1:18?
