commenting early into the video to say that i haven't seen anyone mention the paper inconsistency with the sanzen paper! i consistently use the same pen and ink in mine and every other page, there's a resistance and thickness issue. i really thought it was just me and there was something wrong on my end. i actually recently tried out some md paper and the difference in smoothness and consistency was startling. thank you so much for talking about it. i adore tomoe river paper for its ability to show off ink properties, so i'm kind of heartbroken that these issues keep happening

Thank you for sharing your experience! I was feeling the same way before asking others, but even when I did, I think people’s experience with the new paper differs based on the pens they’re using.

@@KaitlinGrey Thank you for your video. I've never heard my experience with the new TRP described in as much detail as you do. I experience it exactly the same way. One side is a little rougher and my fountain pen writes much wider, the other side feels smoother, but the fountain pen drags uncomfortably across the paper and the line is much narrower. I can only use my Pelikan fountain pen with a rather wide and very smooth nib. Additionally, since all of my gel pens bleed through and even some fountain pen inks (e.g. De Atramentis Alexander Hamilton or two of my J. Herbin inks), I'm currently using Pilot Frixion, even though I'm worried about the ink fading. This is the only pen that doesn't give me any problems other than ballpoint pens. I love Hobonichi and want to use the planner again next year, but this paper makes it difficult.

It is definitely an issue in the community! Many are very disappointed with the new Tomoe river paper. I think they will be working on be better but yes, it is not so good as the old one.

I definitely wanted to chime in and say that the differences in each page of the new TRS paper is VERY apparent. I have been using fountain pens for decades and tomoe river for over 10+ years, and the sanzen paper is very inconsistent. I hope they improve the paper going forward.

I’ve had the issue too. I switched from Hobonichi to sterling ink to see if it’s better and I was happy for a few weeks but now it’s not.

Undated calendars are also my preference. Same reason too - less pressure!
A great system. Simple but effective 💖

I’ve been struggling this year too, the only thing that keeps me from planner hopping too much is the fact that I hate waste. But 2024 has been a dumpster fire for me, so I think that it reflects in that area as well 😂. I did learn that I need a simple calendar, but that for day to day stuff I need undated stuff. Cause sometimes we need the option to not have anything to write (love the cousin but that’s too much to upkeep sometimes).

im completely new to the world of hobonichi and its paper, so for me the paper is a real upgrade from my previous notebooks. i was unaware that they had changed the paper so i was really looking forward to it, and while I do enjoy it, I can now see the issues that ur talking about😭

I didn't have issues with the Hobonichi paper but I did with the pre-printed planner. I ended up back in a Stalogy and did a bujo for One Book July and won't go back. It all can go in there. One life, one book. It works so great! I like that cute Midori. I've never used one of those books before. You seem like you've struggled to find planner peace... I hope you can have a productive 2nd half of the year and settle in somewhere!

I too switched to undated TC planner mid year. Less pressure . I am interested in the month stamp you used . May I know where to find it please

you really really like stalogy papers, as you always go back with them. :) nice update. I really hate the hobonichi paper this year, I can feel the difference between two size of the paper. I use notebooks from SAKAE with TRP 68, they are really nice. I like md paper too, however, the green grids really bother me.

As I understand it, the 68gsm hadn't switched over to Sanzen yet, so I am really interested in how you'll find them going forward.

I thought that I was the only one having issues with that paper. My fountain pen inks were not looking the same page to page. It really bothered me. But I really do like the md cream paper. Ugh and fountain pens are glorious on it.

The MD cream paper is so nice! Such good feedback and I love the way my writing looks using my fine fountain pens on it 🤌🏻

I am having similar issues. I just love the Hobonichi weeks for so many reasons, but I feel like the two pages per week are just not enough space for me. I struggle using the note pages for additional planning space. I think I might move to an A6 Hobo but it lacks note pages, bookmarks, and the nicer cover material of the Weeks

The new tomoe river paper has made me spent a lot of money 😅 I just could not let it go of the old one and tried to find something similar for some time. No success. But I think you made a very good choice with the Midori! I also love Stalogy and there are some inks that perform better than others but it is a paper that privileges the ink qualities! I love hobonichi and their products and hope that the paper will be better with time. I love your videos, thank you for sharing them with us.
