The old single target build where you go for Ice Lance talents and forego Coldest Snap and aoe talents for Ray is simming only like 50k bellow the bolter build. I'm using that over it, because the mobility with bolter is awful, and many fights require micromovement like Bloodbound Horror tentacles, Sikran swirlies, I could go on. I feel that even Ice Floes isn't enough. Plus, this bolter build goes completely against the philosophy behind the spec, we have 2 set and 4 set buffing our Ice Lances, we have a talent that extends Icy Veins from Ice Lances that we pick anyway with the bolter build and we've ended up ignoring all that and frostbolting, it's just awful design. Arguably having mobility gets you way more consistent results, and this bolter build is a clear nerf, I don't care what elitists say, you will rarely get the max dps out of this build in a long fight with a lot of movement requirement.
Thought exactly the same thing. Like...he's just churning out FoF in the video and they're just...sitting there most of the time. Which, obviously he knows his shit and isn't wrong for doing it, but it just FEELS bad. Like why is blizzard unable to design talents to work AS INTENDED. There is no way they designed this spec so that THIS is the way it's meant to be played. So frustrating.

Hiya Mana, great video as always. I am about to kill Silken this coming reset and now with the changes I am a bit stumped for which one of the builds I should play.. Do you have any recommendations for both Silken and Ansurek?

But DC, cold front, and ray are very good on this fight. This would also have you not doing the frostbolt rotation. Ansurek tbd.
@@Manather Thank you for the answer! IS the reason we wouldn't play boltslinger with this build because we dropped frozen touch and also due to mostly 2T cleave? Even when it's the one target dmg amps? So it woudl jsut be the opener to get the stacks and then we play the cleave rotation from there or?
@@HuggareN if i were to guess based on his prior answer. it has to do with mobility. a very frost bolt heavy with glacial spikes using limited ice lances. would be punished quite heavily on a fight with high movement. but something using ice lances with procs, and ice floes + ray of frost and it's subsequent dual ice lances would be far more mobile.
Meant to comment this earlier when the vid came out but didn’t have the time. Thank you so much for the awesome guide and the continuous support to your WA package. I couldn’t play mage without it 😂. Great guide!! I have a few questions: 1- In your demonstration your Frostbolt ST ended up doing less dps than the M+ ST, whats up with that? 2- Given that the hero talents already reset orb is there an argument to drop Ice Caller for more ST (or even Frostbite) and just rely on the resets? 3- How do we use spymaster as frost? Spam it on IV? 4- Are we using Ice Nova and Frost Nova to shatter GS on aoe? (sry if i missed it)
last expansion had pretty good frost rotation as well. I really liked the playstyle of frost during DF. this isn't overly degenerate I don't think, but a bit too reactive for my taste
After switching to arcane at the start of the expansion, I just cant bring myself to re-learn frost. Blizzard need to stop changing things, its so exhausting. Appreciate the guide though
Still waiting to see this used in raid. It's up on a bunch of guides but seems like it's not being used so leaves me a bit confused about whether it's actually the play.
Thanks again for the mage content, you’re the goat! Just wondering - not consuming brain freeze proc while you’re casting FrB seems to go against conventional frost knowledge (from the past) - don’t you risk munching a potential additional brain freeze proc? Or is it because in this current iteration of the spec, maximizing your flurry charges and efficiently consuming winters chill is just better dps?
The only time to not consume brain freeze when casting frostbolt, is if winters chill is already on the target. Because then frostbolting into flurry has no extra value.
So in 2-target cleave, you are saying that if your current target has one stack of winter's chill, and you are ready for a GS with a flurry ready, to tab target to the second target, cast GS into flurry so that it shatters both, yeah?
I was unsure on this as well as he didn't specifically say. I wondered if it was more that it meant our main target would then have no winter's chill making them ready for a flurry combo with our next ice lance shattering the 2nd winter's chill on the 2nd target at the same time?
Manather, ty again for a great guide. Just one question. Minute 21:10 you say that ignore GS because you don't have flurry. Is that the rule? It is not worth to cast GS without winter's chill?

Am I allowed to say that the new ST raid rotation is a bit degen? It feels somehow worse than Frostbolt rotation before the frost mage rework in DF 10.1.5. Great vid as always though, very helpful, thank god you're here to help us navigate though it.
I love your videos and the clarity you provide. I seem to be having issues with getting the plater profile to import can you point me in the right direction as it wont load into plater or WA via the import functions.
Trying my nand at Mage after playing since Vanilla, so excuse the stupid question. Why do you not put a point in Comet Storm, but instead put a point in Glacial Assault, which appears to be related to Comet Storm? It seems, at face value, to be a wasted point, as Glacial Assault will never occur if Comet Storm is not chosen. Thanks. Love the guide!!
Lets breakdown glacial assault: It applies a 6% dmg inc debuff on the enemy when comet storm hits a mob. Thats fully reliant on comet storm. It has a secondary part, where everytime flurry hits a mob, it has a chance to call down a comet. Which also applies the 6% dmg inc debuff, and does a small amount of damage. So, though its related to comet storm its other effect is strong enough for us to take it even without comet storm.
@9:49 You might of explained it, and I didn't catch it, but why after glacial spike are you only ice lancing once, and not twice to consume the last stack of winters chill? Instead you are consuming last stack with frost bolt.
updated fire and arcane guides coming? im probably going to raid as frost or fire because i dont know how to play arcane anymore lol. Appreciate the updated frost guide as always, super timely as well
I really don't mind not taking Ray of Frost now, it felt very clunky to use. Shifting Power did feel really good to use, in my opinion it should be buffed to fire off four shards as baseline.
Question - the Wowhead guide simply says to use frostbolt in Icy Veins from what I can tell, so is the "use it until 8 death's chill" just a refinement on that? Also, what's the reason for only using ice lance on 1 Winter's Chill + Brain Freeze? Would it be preferrable to use Frostbolt without the BF? Is it so you have a flurry ready for your next frostbolt/Glacial Spike cast? Cheers.
It would be a refinement. As for ice lancing with 1 WC and BF, its because if you frostbolt there you have a chance to overcap flurries, and we dont necessarily need another flurry since we already have one.
Thanks for the guide, i have a question tho my guild was coming to end of ovinax prog and was playing frost and now its getting changed what would you play on that specific boss talent tree wise or should i go arcane instead since its going to come out busted mayhaps ?
Just wanted to let you know that the WA link to "search for them individually" yields "No results found, try changing the search mode or query" on the WAGO page. And one question: Since Splinterstorm is not generating Winter's Chill anymore, I can throw this WA out with the purple-flakes and Splinterstorm prediction right? Spliterstorm is more like a passive now and we should get as many as possible but not using it active anymore during that IL spam. Did I get that correctly?
Thank you as always!! Hope you get crazy views with frost being on top. Could you share the updated weak auras after SS change? Edit: I see you updated thank you o/
What if you are at 5 shards, with only able to cast frostbolt and glacial spike? Do we spike knowing there is no shatter, or we keep frostbolting and wait for procs and spike&flurry?
Great guide as usual! Im confused about two things, both for M+ build 1) We shatter Glacial spike with frost nova/freeze when possible, the flurry is only when we dont have them (and stuff not frozen from other sources) Right. What about Frost nova, do we also use that to shatter, or just ignore frost nova again this patch? 2) In the commentary you talk about flurry over ice lance with brain freeze. So if i have brain freeze i just flurry again and ignore FOF? So i activly do proc munching (playing frost since legions this is so hard to wrap my head around) - I guess its becouse that flurry cast creates 3 splinters? But if so, shouldnt i also do it with flurry up with winters chill despite no having brain freeze?
I feel like single target is the “turret frost mage” of SL final season that just casts frost bolt gs which is fine on the target dummy but punishes you hard on movement when ice lance is weak.
Sooo, im confused, you say you only use Glacial Spike if the target has Winters Chill, but later i see you use Glacial Spike with Flurry casted after i dont understand the difference in this. As in, why not wait and use Flurry first followed up by the Glacial Spike? Or will it also shatter if you cast Flurry instantly after? And after Icy Veins is off cd you use Ice lance into the shatters if you have 2 Flurry charges, so lets say you have applied Flurry, have 2 snowflakes cast 2 ice lances (no Spike to use) re apply flurry and then go for frostbolts if you dont have a flurry charge left?
I have the same problem. It's his microphone being incredibly boomy in the low end (or maybe boosted even). It really screws with the high register of his voice and makes it hard to follow.
When i do frostbolt-flurry (I spam my flurry key- but not actually cast the second flurry, i spam the flurry key during the first flurry animation) sometimes it generates 3 and even 4 icicles. So that means sometimes i can frostbolt-flurry-glacial spike.(going from zero icicles to five instantly.) Do you know why is that?
Question, I still dont understand the basic combo. Flurry says it applies winters chill with each hit, but the buff only applies 2? If you frostbolt before flurry lands, shouldn't that only leave 1 winters chill remaning? Please explain it to me like im a toddler 😂
Because when frostbolt is in the air flurry starts to hit the target and instantly freezes it. Frostbolt damages it like it is frozen. Flurry hits before the frostbolt and finishes hitting the target after the frostbolt. It is like a bug . You can think it like you are casting Flurry- Frostbolt-Flurry. So in the end it always has 2 stacks remaining.
The jank of the previous Frost Splinterstorm iteration kinda grew on me in a way, but I don't think I'm going to miss it. I actually quite like that these splinters now just do solid damage on their own. It's also nice that Winter's Chill is now yet again a predictable and controllable mechanic. Felt like Flurry got devalued big time with splinters also applying WC. Made it janky all around. Feel like the DC talent would become much more fun and less disruptive to the rotation if Flurry also counted towards stacking it up. Would be sick if it also let Flurry become AoE but instead of off-targets being affected by 2x stacks of WC (because that would likely be insanely broken), have it apply a single stack of WC with like a 0.5-1 second duration. At the least Flurry would have a place in the AoE rotation assuming DC is staying as a talent. Also makes stacking up DC in single target more convenient.
Coming back to the game after 4 xpack out of it. rotation feels to be on another omg. Tried arcane but i really don't like it. Trying to go for Frost but i have an issue understanding the prio / relationship of icelance, feels like i am using it way too much. If i'm understanding this correctly I should icelance only if target has 2 stacks of WC, ok but for the 1 stack if I have glacial spike and flurry up its GS > IL right ?
Hi All! There are 3 things I don't get, i hope you can help me out here... 1) When am I supposed to use Ice Lance EXACTLY? Cause most of the times we are just stacking them endlessly but sometimes I see it's being casted out of nowhere, so I don't understand xD 2) When should I use Frostbolt into Flurry? Most of the rotation looks like it's pure frostbolts into glacial spike into flurry and repeat... but sometimes I see that Frostbolt into flurry also pretty random imo, shouldn't we save flurry for glacial spike only? 3) and last... how am i supposed to land the glacial spike without the need of casting flurry, using the winter's chill effect? cause see... when i'm building up the icicles for the glacial spike, I'm obviously casting either frostbolt or ice lances, and those spells consume the winter's chill effect, so there is never a window for a glacial spike with winter's chill unless I previously cast a flurry, or right after.... do i explain myself right here? XD
I don't fully understand the whole tab targeting flurry thing? Is it, when one target has winters chill and you have another flurry available you would spike flurry the other target so they both have winters chill and get hit with spike? BC if so holy cow that's a lot to keep track of...lol for me anyway I guess... 1) watch their stacks, hope flurry has a 2nd charge, tab spike/flurry. I'm assuming the answer to that is get better? lol
One question. I have glacial spike ready but no flurry no nothing... shifting power on CD everything on CD. I keep spamming FB until I get a flurry proc to FB+Flurry then Glacial spike even if it takes 4-5 FBs to proc.
So i was wondering why do you stop at 8 stacks of Deaths chill on ST? Is there any reason why dont you go for 15 stacks? I didnt use that talent in really long time. And is it just me or having 4 rotations is a bit 2 much? :)

As for ice lancing with 1 WC and BF, its because if you frostbolt there you have a chance to overcap flurries, and we dont necessarily need another flurry since we already have one.
@@Manather Nice, thanks for explaining.
Seems like you found a way to get some ice lance back in there during IV. :p
Thanks for the guide, i have a question tho my guild was coming to end of ovinax prog and was playing frost and now its getting changed what would you play on that specific boss talent tree wise or should i go arcane instead since its going to come out busted mayhaps ?
If you can play arcane its looking kind of busted now. But can also just play the key build for ovinax with the still ice lancing and be good.
@@Manather ok, ty i'll try to minimize the diffrence for prog probably.
Wow that was fast! Should we expect something for fire?
Probably a sitty question, BUT. So used to consuming ice lance procs when you get them. We dont do that anymore?
I miss the Shadowlands Frost rotation, where you would turn into a tall Undead and spam Frostbolt Volleys.
Yep can get rid of that WA
will you also do an arcane guide? (maybe with simplified vs advanced barrage conditions separately)
Yep, probably by this weekend
Hey please make a vid about your addons and config
Did the stat priority also changed? Should we now stack crit+haste instead of mastery haste?
Thank you as always!! Hope you get crazy views with frost being on top. Could you share the updated weak auras after SS change?
Edit: I see you updated thank you o/
Great guide, thanks, althought I don't quite understand the reason behind 8th line priority list ST, could you clarify it please
What if you are at 5 shards, with only able to cast frostbolt and glacial spike? Do we spike knowing there is no shatter, or we keep frostbolting and wait for procs and spike&flurry?
Yeah..I was wonderind about it too 😢
keeping this comment here to get an update :)
Addons and UI pages are not allowed on my country. Could you please share them on somewhere too?
Great guide as usual!
Im confused about two things, both for M+ build
1) We shatter Glacial spike with frost nova/freeze when possible, the flurry is only when we dont have them (and stuff not frozen from other sources) Right.
Thank you for the great guides as always, if your time permits would you please make an arcane SS guide for 11.05
Once they announce the changes for next week I'll look at making it/more guides.
4:13 - what is Frb in the opener?
frostbolt...
Frostbolt
They took so long to change splinterstorm that I already got used to and enjoyed the ice lance spam 😞
At 15:56 you cast a gs but no flurry , no pet freeze or ice nova so how did you shatter your gs?
It was a mistake, which is what I say at the time "This is a bad glacial spike because I cant shatter it"
@@Manather oh Man sorry i taught you had some secret tech to shatter
I feel like single target is the “turret frost mage” of SL final season that just casts frost bolt gs which is fine on the target dummy but punishes you hard on movement when ice lance is weak.
at 9:22 why do you frostbolt and not ice lance there?
and at 10:00 as well i dont really understand (why is that a mistake)?
It will also shatter if you flurry after it. If youre doing the raid rotation you would frostbolt with 1 snowflake left and no flurry charges.
What is your opinion on the frost mage current 2set,4set.With these changes do we deserve a rework. Is it worth to ditch it for higher ilv?
Not worth to ditch, good in m+, hopefully they fix our raid/spec talents to not be ass so we dont frostbolt so much.
Hey, do you think arcane spellslinguer is good enough now?
great guide, would help if you could speak more clearly
I think that’s just his microphone
Turn on captions
I have the same problem. It's his microphone being incredibly boomy in the low end (or maybe boosted even). It really screws with the high register of his voice and makes it hard to follow.
Is your brain smooth?
Eh also an issue that i recorded this at midnight so was trying to be semi quiet.
Is the Death’s Chill stacks indicator in the updated WA pack. Or something else?
Deaths chill has been in my WA package for a while
When i do frostbolt-flurry (I spam my flurry key- but not actually cast the second flurry, i spam the flurry key during the first flurry animation) sometimes it generates 3 and even 4 icicles. So that means sometimes i can frostbolt-flurry-glacial spike.(going from zero icicles to five instantly.) Do you know why is that?
Ray of frost is played a lot in Logs, the API uses it while icy veins is this correct?
Im a bit confuse as of why we are not using comet storm during icy veins, i tried to find the info on ur last video but i guess im stupid :x
Cause most of the times we are just stacking them endlessly but sometimes I see it's being casted out of nowhere, so I don't understand xD
2) When should I use Frostbolt into Flurry?
XD
When you are FBing to build icicles, you are also proc'ing BF procs usually, which gives you 2 stacks of WC.
Hey, will you also be making a video for arcane?
It looks like when you pre-cast frb/gs before flurry, it's not consuming the Winter's Chill proc. Are they still benefiting from Winter's Chill?
it hits between flurry projectiles and consumes one, but your winters chill is refreshed back to two stacks by the last flurry projectile
@Manather Ah, I see. Thank you!
each xpansion they change the way to play the class, so tiring ty for the guide
Thanks for such a great guide!! Please update the WA pack also :)
I did, will have to update it again in a few days when I add a barrage helper WA.
Any notes for what kind of stat balence we should go for?
hey, where do you get the add on your character?
What weak auras are you using?
I don't fully understand the whole tab targeting flurry thing? Is it, when one target has winters chill and you have another flurry available you would spike flurry the other target so they both have winters chill and get hit with spike?
BC if so holy cow that's a lot to keep track of...lol for me anyway I guess... 1) watch their stacks, hope flurry has a 2nd charge, tab spike/flurry.
I'm assuming the answer to that is get better? lol
above 5 targets is it still worth using glacial spike?
So Manather, we use Glacial spike in AoE if we get 5 icicles? as long as we cna shatter it, with WC or Ice Nova, Ele freeze?
Yes, but always prio shattering it with winters chill.
@@Manather okay, cool thanks! Always look forward to your videos and opinions.
So in M+ on a ST boss, do you bother trying to build Deaths Chill stacks?
No
One question. I have glacial spike ready but no flurry no nothing... shifting power on CD everything on CD. I keep spamming FB until I get a flurry proc to FB+Flurry then Glacial spike even if it takes 4-5 FBs to proc.
yep, though if not in the raid build you'd use your fof too
So i was wondering why do you stop at 8 stacks of Deaths chill on ST? Is there any reason why dont you go for 15 stacks? I didnt use that talent in really long time. And is it just me or having 4 rotations is a bit 2 much? :)
15 would just take too long in st, its cost vs reward.
@@Manather Ok ty. I hope to see one for arcane very soon :)
is there anywhere we can download the rotations on your note pad?
WILL YOU DO A POST FOR 11.0.7 ALSO?
I dont think anything will change for our spec in .7, so unlikely
Casting frostbolt in MT scenarios feels weird as hell, but as long as we're out of Ice Lance spamming, I'm fine.
What is that set? and how you did you get it? pleaseee
