  • It's been a long time since we went over a track used by DTM in this series. Although, this one seems to have a bit of a repetitive nature to it.

I think a decent track to do next would be AVUS. The track was originally used all the way back in 1921 and used all the way up until 1998. The fact that the track went from this high speed freak of nature with a 43 degree banked corner to a shell of its former self would be an interesting watch imo. F1 also competed around the circuit along with the DTM and other championships. I know it’d be 2 DTM & German tracks in a row but that’s nothing to the string of American tracks we had 😂.

6:24 this actually did happen. the organizers could not get a new contract with the the city of singen so they moved on to find a new location, a airfield in lahr in 1996. the circuit was called regio-ring and hosted STW races in 1997 and 98. you might check it out as it had a street circuit style section in the final sector.

You should look into the old Yahuarcocha circuit in ecuador. Idk how much footage exists of it, but it was a really long winding track around a big lake on the tourist roads there. Got pretty close to the water sometimes, and no protection from it (it was the 70s after all). Crazy to think they raced 917s and 512s's around there for 12 hours (yes in the dark for part of it). Real madmen drivers back then. Theres a permanent track now but its tiny and leaves out 99% of the original. Roads are still there tho, looked like it was an awesome track on google maps lol

there were mostly two reasons from the cities perspective: it was mostly going through residential areas so there were a lot complains about the noise of the event and it was also blocking one of the main east to west roads causing all sorts of traffic issues. the tempelhof airfield is just a way more convenient location for the event.
