Yo! It’s my old pal Jazzmaster Mike ! I’m so stoked you got to work with fender for this video !!! Proud of you bro 😎 Honestly I can’t think of anyone else more qualified than you to explain this instrument I’ve got that exact model and I love it even more now Right on Mike
Thank you, Mike. Thanks to you, I’ve been getting two offsets a year and it’s been 3 years going strong! I got a MIM Roadworn Classic 60’s Jazzmaster and an American Original 60’s Jaguar!
My Jazzmaster plays Jazz beautifully. Albeit it is a more modern "jazz sound" than a Gibson L5 or ES175. But Leo designed it that way for the "Modern Jazz players of the late 50's & 60's. Because that was in vogue at the time. Sadly even though Leo built this beautiful and innovative guitar to their specs, they turned up their noses when it was presented. Jazz players are the greatest cork sniffers in the music world! Luckily for us, Leo also designed it to be a versatile instrument capable of many great sounds and tones. The trick to a great Jazz sound on your JM is; Roll off the tone, play it clean through a tube amp and most important of all, know your chords! (No cheating) 😉
@@solotrip302 Nah strats are in their own thing but still serve their purpose. Tele's and all offsets are the perfect gutars despite not having the same amount of popularity.
So I have a printout that shows the jazzmaster controls and a chart at the bottom that explains how they work. But when using the Lead circuit, it refers to the pickups as the "rhythm" pickup and the "lead" pickup instead of the neck pickup and bridge pickup. So I'm just trying to confirm, is the "rhythm" pickup the same as the "neck" pickup, and the " lead" pickup the same as the " bridge" pickup or do I have that backwards?
The Rhythm circuit is only the neck pickup (thru a different tone circuit) so that 3 way toggle is inactive when it’s engaged. Surprised he didn’t explain that better. His demo on the Jaguar is clearer.
So I inherited my dad's Jazzmaster and started to try learning how to play. I also got his Strat. Im getting an odd stereo effect in my headphones from the Jazzmaster on a clean channel(run through a Scarlett solo into my PC). It seems to be separating the higher strings notes from the lower ones. and there seems to be a tremolo effect as well on one side..is that normal? its not happening with the strat under the exact same settings(just switching out the cable from one guitar to the other)
Im glad I saw this because if I got one and didn’t know that’s how the rhythm circuit was supposed to sound, I’d think my pups were broken. Why would they make them sound like that on purpose 😂
Hey Mike, I see Fender spared nothing on this video, as they got the "Lord of the JM", to do the demo and explanation. I already knew all about the switching from your fantastic channel, but I i wanted to see you strum this Vintera beauty. Maybe the best of the Vintera line, IMHO. Keep on rockin in the free world and I'll see you on your YT channel, "Pusheen".
Puisheen has been in 2 Fender demonstration videos and it's probably time for him to assist Fender create a Blue era Rivers Cuomo signature. Don't sleep on that Fender.
@@catarrhal Slash didn't use a real Gibson on Appetite for Destruction. So who knows, maybe Charvel instead of Fender. But with that Mexican Fender song anything is possible. What do I know.
But what does the neck pickup sound like with the rhythm circuit engaged and tone rolled off? Or middle setting with the neck tone not wide open? I feel like some possibly usable options were skipped. But I guess instead of watching a video from fender about the controls, I have to go find one and try this stuff out on my own. How convenient!
When you present the rhythm circuit you must play clean jazz chording which is what the JAZZMASTER was intended for,NOT INDIE STYLE power chords. You lose the essence the guitar
No way, ever watch sonic youth or J mascis? They shred these guitars. It was made for jazz but more non-jazz artists use them-well in the music I listen to at least.

Right on Mike
Very cool to see someone develop enough of an expertise and following to become part of the actual brand’s content. Well deserved.
Thank you, Mike. Thanks to you, I’ve been getting two offsets a year and it’s been 3 years going strong! I got a MIM Roadworn Classic 60’s Jazzmaster and an American Original 60’s Jaguar!
I honestly never knew what the controls did on a Jazzmaster.
I'm not even sure Jazzmaster players knew either, mate! haha
Shakira
Did Fender honestly believe anybody was ever going to play jazz on that?
Vintage Jazzmasters sound amazing for jazz. They're making a comeback
I mean, you can play any guitar for jazz.
Gibson thought everyone would play jazz on a Les Paul. You still can, but that sure turned out differently.
My Jazzmaster plays Jazz beautifully. Albeit it is a more modern "jazz sound" than a Gibson L5 or ES175.

Jazz kinda used to be a big deal
never imagined I'd buy one.....but.....is this the most versatile guitar ever?
nope, that would be a stratocaster

Yay - another Mike Adams appearance! And is that a Lieutenant Commander Data pin on your shirt?
I'm so glad you got Mike for this video! He's the king of offsets!
If Sonic Youth played country music the intro sound was it. Man, you get the best sounds. Love it. Then the outro- killer.
Sonic youth + Country Music = Dinosaur Jr.
@@laundry1799Ahahah yeah
Bang them chords out, like your hitting a 6 thousand dollar Taylor at church
Hey, what fuzz pedal is being used at the end?
Wow! I really love the tones he was getting. More so on the lead circuit, but they were all pretty cool.
Novo have modelled their guitars on this personally I’d buy the fender
Haha, I'm putting some super distortion humbuckers in this. Guitar goes brrrrrrr
The lead circuit sounds great...

Great riff. That's what I wanna hear from a Jazzmaster.
What model is that Jazzmaster in the video?
pretty sure its a vintera model lol
No I think it's a jazzmaster
Vintera 60s Jazzmasters in ice blue metallic. Just bought one, amazing guitar right out of the box.
Juliörn bruh
Need this guitar yesterday!
Great guitar and great video!
Beautiful intro ❤
My favorite jazzmaster player . Good video
Squier Jazzmaster Deluxe review 😬
Mike do you prefer the jaguar or the jazzmaster?
from watching his channel seems to be a JM guy
I have the first one. The prototype. No serial number on it. Québec Canada
I tried one of these today. It was a Squire version, but good. To call it a Jazzmaster was misleading. It was trebly and jangly on every setting.
Intense Ginger. So does the triple switch control the pickups when the Rhythm circuit is on, or is there no choice?
The Rhythm circuit is only the neck pickup (thru a different tone circuit) so that 3 way toggle is inactive when it’s engaged. Surprised he didn’t explain that better. His demo on the Jaguar is clearer.

Very good video and fantastic guitar
I got a jazz master and play nothing but rock and mad breakdowns haha

@Puisheen how was the trem on this one? Lol.
el final fue brutal
These sound amazing clean!!’
Why don’t the mod shops have any rhythm switches??
Uhhhh….what about that push-pull pot on the Jazzmaster II? It dies something to the bridge pickup?
I feel like Troy Van Leeuwen got it right by having a toggle switch rather than the stock standard switch on the rhythm circuit
I wish I knew what pedals he was using.
I want one
Puisheen has been in 2 Fender demonstration videos and it's probably time for him to assist Fender create a Blue era Rivers Cuomo signature. Don't sleep on that Fender.
Mike is a cool guy fer sure, but Rivers’ guitar was not a Fender.

It explained what it does but not how, I'm 10x more curious now
Holy shit the knobs roll
We ❤️ you OPM
Im gonna be honest i almost clicked off this video when he started talking about "tone"
sad the squier affinity doesnt have the switching controls
no rhythm circuit
Squier JMascis does ✅
Hard to tell which way he is moving the switch
Jazzmaster, rarely seen played by jazz maestros..
True. Only seen played by indie rock bands
Jazz Bass and Jazzmaster surely is a good combo
on making a good rock indie song lmao
Mickey Baker and Joe Pass, amongst others!
@@danielbrown8556 joe pass played a jaguar
@@hiroprotagonitis perhaps he did, but he played a Jazzmaster too
Fender this Great guitar would look beautiful with an EBONY fret board . Have you ever considered this ? Thank You .
Demo some jazz, perchance?
Finally
🔥🔥🔥
i don’t have a rhythm circuit on mine
They made this man say "stop the presses case closed".. so sorry, but great tutorial.
only jim root can make this jazzmaster to become metalmaster
Because his Jazzmaster has higher output pickups and the only knob is a volume knob? No disrespect to Jim Root as a guitarist. I love his tone.
Sound like it's broken
Oh
Why is he playing non-jazz shit?
no dinosaur jr songs? shame
Sounds like garbage
watching industry people play guitar makes me vomit in my mouth a little... a lot. that being said the video helped greatly so thank you.
Sounds like a tin toy

Awful demo. Love the Jazzmaster, but this is NOT how it should sound.
This is an explaination for the controls on a Jazzmaster, not a demo.
Yee Haw they better explain it unplugged

Bradford A. Ciecko I am sure about that. They can sound really great!
Diego that’s what I’m saying, this demo sounds really great.
