I like how the way Po and Tai Lung respond to the scroll's reveal tells you so much about their personality: Po: 'It's blank' there's so much room to write more on it. Tai Lung: 'It's nothing' and that's all it will ever be.
While this is not your usual content, I love this in depth look at Kung Fu Panda and it’s connection to Daoism and Confucianism. Great Job, and keep going!
The conversation between Oogway and Shifu at the tree is my favorite scene in the movie. And I really love the contrast between it and the earlier scene with Oogway and Po there. In his scene here, Shifu strikes the tree and causes fruit to rain down, with one hitting him. But earlier in the scene with Po, Oogway gently taps the tree as he leaves and makes a single peach fall into Po’s hand. Oogway isn’t against taking control of things, but you can’t force it. A little push to get the momentum going, not a hard shove. He tells Shifu to believe in Po and guide him, but he doesn’t demand he make him into a master or tell him how to do it. He just wants Shifu to make an honest effort so he can see what he’s been too impatient to realize.
This was a really awesome in depth analysis of Kung Fu Panda and I would love to see more content like this. This movie was one of the things that helped fascinate and intrigue me with Chinese cultures and philosophies as well as asian culture as a whole. So seeing the deeper meaning behind it and hearing just how much it exemplified these philosophies in a way that I didn’t notice as a kid certainly helped me to appreciate this movie a whole lot more ^^ If you decide to continue with KFP, I hope you talk about the character of Shen from the second film and how he embodies one of Oogway’s message of “One often meets his destiny on the road he takes to avoid it.”
Great video. These are my thoughts. One, that this movie is a Daoist critique of Confucian etiquette because it results in the loss of self-identity that comes with over-identifying with social values and expectations as Tai Lung did. This is exacerbated by the extreme respect that Confucianism seeks to foster in the student-teacher and child-parent relationship (of which Tai Lung represents both). Second, that the mirror analogy perfectly reflects the Daoist principle of being in alignment with the universe, with perfect self-knowledge being the ultimate means to achieve this complete unity despite because perfect self-knowledge encompasses knowledge of the Dao of which one is a microcosm and unity. Only the person who achieves that superhuman feat becomes a Dragon Warrior.
Alright. I'll admit, you did point out some good points of Taoism and Confucianism from a childrens flick. But I'd love to see you review some actual Kung Fu movies and their philosophies.
Kung Fu Panda is one of my fave films and I remember thinking that Master Oogway seemed to display some Daoist philosophies... So I did a Google search and found this :) I am pleased I'm not alone in thinking that there must be some Chinese wisdom in this film! I found it interesting to learn more about Master Shifu's character
19:07 In a short legend of the dragon scroll, we see a flashback to how the furious 5 formed and in it. Tigeress fights in a different way to how Shifu wants her to fight and he doesn't allow it and when She fights the way he wants her to fight the way of kung fu She loses she only wins when she fights the way she wants to fight tigeress style
Growing up, and simply just ageing, I looked up to characters like Oogway, Uncle Iroh, Grandpa Gohan and Master Roshi; I wanted to cultivate a personality like theirs, but I also looked up to other's, like Goku, Naruto, Ichigo, Sokka... just, all sorts of personalities with differing, and similar views. I'm, quite likely, autistic; though I remain only peer-reviewed. I say this because, the values and characteristics of these characters heavily influenced how I masked in front of others. So now to the point : Kung Fu Panda helped me talk a friend out of a self-deletion. He told me of how he thought other's saw him, of how he saw himself; I nodded along, and interjected here and there with things like, "I see./that make's sense/I can understand that", never dis-agreeing, but trying to see from his perspective, and understand his truth. When he was done, his cheeks were covered in tears both dry and wet, with an expression devoid of all but a hint of sadness. I don't remember exactly what I said, but I'll keep the vibe as best I can: "Where you see a man of faults and failure, I see a man who get's back up, learns from his mistakes, and tries again. I see a man who admits his faults, owns them by way of apology, and works on removing them. If you look, you will always find reasons to bring yourself down - humans are like that. No matter how you see yourself, know that I am always looking up at you." and then I hugged him, and he cried some more as I held him. When he was done with these tears, he told me "thank you," and I responded, "you don't have to thank me, (bro); I would rather risk my life with you than know something happened and I wasn't there - this is nothing." "Still, thank you" "Of course. Also, you know I'm spending the night now, right?" "I know.." I wasn't worried, because I knew he wouldn't tell me I had to go home. I wasn't under the assumption I was in control of the situation either, I only knew my homie needed me, and I was going to be there. Of course I wanted to counter and deny every insult he spoke of himself, but he needed to say it and not feel attacked. So all the while I'm thinking about the scroll, the importance of self-reflection and the belief in us from others, knowing I can't change his perspective, only share with him my own. Basically... I learned how to accept the moment and be in it, and was literally shown an example of how to be someone's stability while they have a break-down, and to share opinion instead of argue against and - I am ever grateful to have had these examples help me in life.
This is also the key to the film known as The Silent Flute or the Circle of Iron, that film is also the key to the Matrix. Great work, please keep it up.
I like this vid, the movie is one of my favorite animated one from DreamWorks and the philosophy you should me is bonus Will you make a warriors philosophy video? Or are they not as interesting?
When Oogway said "Hmmm... monke..." I felt that
He’s secretly telling that to gryphons who spams side dodge heavies

Thank you for making this video raven. Kung Fu Panda is an excellent movie and one of my favorite film series.
I let some tears go at the end, this enlightened me for good. Thank you
This deserves more views, masterful piece of a video essay!
I always appreciate content like this. Really help me think and reflect upon what I've seen and heard.
What a great video my friend! Truth comes in any container and often those who can explain something to a child understand it the best!

And someday I fully intend to. I want to do more philosophy discussions in the future. This is just the beginning.
I looked for information about Deism in the Wikipedia. It's without any reliance on revealed religions or religious authority. What about theyre?
If it to be true I never agree with it.Then this philosophy is self-refuting.
If you don't agree with me and I don't a insult
A rose by any other name, if you remove preference things are self evident.
YOU gave me vision . Thanks

the third movie's antagonist is kratos from god of war

Great video man

I suck in the history of sucking. Probably. They hate me. Totally. Oh my god that made me laugh
One cannot reason with the wind.... Oogway Probably.
absolutely phenomenal video essay. This puts so many things into perspective. BTW whats the name of the background music?
Really well done video, holy shit
Awesome video mate
Always was a fan of daoism and for honor, what a treat
Look forward for more.
Who know this movie is so deep.
I loved this video.
Everyone loves Kong Fu fighting!
Be water my friend.
Nothing.......THE SHELL HAS SPOKEN!!!

great video
Shi Fu + Oogway = Panda ☯️
孔 + 老子 = 道
Would you consider doing Prince of Egypt after you finish the Kung Fu Panada series? Thank you.
Probably, although you can expect that one to be far more Biblical and Christian oriented than this one, which is more Chinese philosophy.
What is the game playing in the background?
For Honor
@@RavenKnightYT thanks, great video btw
Daoism reminds me of Stoicism.
9:35 pause
16:18 you can burn it.
beta confucian vs. sigma taoist
The Alpha Confucian, the Sigma Taoist, and the Beta Legalism
14:34 Confucian* way of control, you mean, not Daoist.
You… you sure sound like SomeCallMeJohhny. Sure there’s not something we don’t know?
Who is SomeCallMeJohhny? Not familiar with the name.
@@RavenKnightYT just put it in the searchbar- you wont have to look far. I recommend his sonic and megaman reviews 😁
