SPOILER ALERT: don’t read the comments if you don’t want to know what happens. 😀
To everyone saying they were fakes or stolen goods, it’s possible. However, based on the conversations and context clues, I think it was a busy mom, homeschooling a bunch of kids, who decided to get into liquidation for extra money but didn’t realize how much time it took to list. Therefore, they ended up selling it at their garage sale. A lot of that is speculation, but that is what I think the true story is!

They seem to be using you to gauge the resale value of their stock. The test run at $5, you bought them all. Next time try a much higher price, and see what someone will pay. W/o batting an eye you agreed to pay $7.50 each, and you're buying in bulk so you must be flipping them at a higher price point . Well he was excited so he brought out a lot more hoping you'd buy them too. His wife is thinking that if all these hit the market you are going to draw heat, and then you'll mention to the cops where you got them, and you'll all go to orison, as the value on these is at least $10,000 = felony charges.
Chances are pretty good that it's stolen merchandise .

Ethics trumps Profit, In my humble opinion! Yes, you may have “lost” in some profit, but I would have done the same darn thing! My son did a HUGE lot deal at a yard sale of Funko (when they were BIG) & other collectibles & gaming stuff. The lady had a list hanging with the prices for each…son (19 then) did some heavy calculating (while she kept saying they were her husbands & trying to pay bills) she tried to do the math & kept failing, so finally said, “ok..sure” He handed her the cash and she was waving the cash around to the other lady, saying “look how much I got blah blah blah “we were kind of giggling, because evidently she’d never seen that much cash in her lifetime. But I looked at my son and I said “load it QUICK!” So, we’re shoving boxes upon boxes of items into the car as fast as we can, because I just knew that if her husband showed up, there would be trouble! LOL btw, he did profit big time😊

  • @theteenreseller

I would have been so irritated cause not only did he waste your time while you were getting the money for the items, he wasted your time when you were putting the items into your car, etc. I definitely would have paid $15 for a substantial jacket but it’s also tricky because if they have 100 Nakatano items are there other people with 100 Nakatano items? You considered options like market saturation which is important. Were they worth $7.50? Yes. Were they worth $15? Maybe. Were they worth $15 after he backed out? No. I am sorry this happened! I would be scared to go back but I probably would go just to see what happens lol

Of course in this case I would have only gotten the 30 pieces since I wouldn’t have went back the next day. I would have been livid, but I would have done the same thing that you did. If they wanted $15 for each one then I'd want proof that I wasn't buying stolen goods because going from 15 to 100 hoodies overnight is sus. Honestly, I would never go back to buy from these people. If they back out of a done deal on me once then there's no reason for me to have confidence that they won't do it again. It's just dirty and not very midwest of them.

Yes, I think I’ll stay up from their sale just because of how that deal ended up.
I really do not think they were stolen. I think the mom tried to get into liquidation, and then didn’t get stuff listed, so they were trying to sell it at the garage sale. As I said at the end of the video, the dad said they tried liquidation for a bit and that’s where the inventory was from.

Selling 5 of the same brand is one thing but putting 100 NWT in your eBay / posh is a whole different ballgame..it could very well raise an issue with platform and if you do not have an agreement with brand you could be jeopardizing your eBay account. Sounds like the wife didn't have very good business sense, which is probably why she was selling them off to begin with. She didn't want to do the work, but also didn't want to take "the hit", got nervous and backed out. She also took the cowards way out hiding behind her husband where she doesn't have to deal with you personally. I woulda asked to speak with the wife (in sales talk, the decision maker), the husband was happy to let you load the jackets so he's obviously already ok with it and you got nothing to lose. Perhaps calmly talking over the options might have helped her see sense (i.e. how likely are 100 people to come individually and buy these jackets at full price? how much work will it take to move them if they don't sell? how badly do you need the space?) and remind her why she needs to shift them in the first place. Maybe something like "I can give you $750 right now, you get your space back and don't have to babysit these for days while hundreds of people try them on. They could get damaged, mould etc.". I'm still working at this myself, but there's some stuff in Brian Tracy's 'Advanced Selling Strategies' and Jordan Belfort's 'The Way of the wolf' that would probably make sense in this situation, where there's obvious benefit for both parties to the deal going ahead. Even if it doesn't work out, at least having spoken to wifey, you would be able to gauge what the hell just happened, and perhaps learn something you can use to get a one up the next time this happens. I always try to see how far the rabbit hole goes so I at least learned the lesson fully all the way to the end, if that makes sense.

Also... $1000 CASH??? Why not a bank transfer? Would you commonly make deals that size in cash?

Lesson, do the deal and get out fast.... Depends on how much money I would be leaving on the table and how quick I thought I could sell them. Yes they were being unreasonable and I would have probably said "look, the deal is done, money has changed hands but to keep things civil, I will split the difference and give you $11 per." But you are buying 100 items I assume they alot of duplicates, volume doesnt move all that fast on eBay and Posh especially when your price point is about $30., so you maybe sitting on these for a while.
I think if you take the emotion out of it (which I think any professional buyer would have a problem with these sellers) and did a Cost v Risk v Profit Analysis
Cost (how much is the $1500 is going to affect you, is this a big $ deal for you or is this something you do on a weekly basis) vs Risk (Time to sell, are they fake, are they stolen) vs Profit analysis you would have swallowed the BS and made the deal.

It sounds like they literally stole them from you. You had a deal, he had the money, you had 50%+ loaded already. I would have probably gotten pretty heated then hopefully realized I was on someone else’s property about to do something stupid. Then hopefully I would have calmed down enough to just cancel and leave like you did. I would never go back. Later on I would regret not paying the $15 per too. 😂 I loved the story, and hope I am never in that spot. Thanks Amber!

I think there are a couple caveats, she was at public sale on private property so she wasn't trespassing. At the point the seller pulled the plug on the deal, the property was bought and paid for and legally belonged to Amber. I would have said, you said 750 in cash, I did that, now excuse me while I load my property. Nothing heated, I'm just completing the terms we agreed to.

@@fashionmews6886 In no way did I mean to imply the clothing didn’t belong to Amber. My point was that you never know when a civil issue can turn into a criminal one when it involves money. Will the seller physically assault you to keep you from loading the property? Will the verbal agreement stand good in court? If it doesn’t then we have a case where you are stealing their property and a physical altercation broke out. Way too messy to dig in and “stand on business” imo.

I would have done the same thing. Except I would have called him something I won't say here. And I would have said good freaking luck selling them. I'm pretty hot in the moment. And then I would have been grateful and moved on. I don't stay upset. Buying quantities like that comes with risk. You were assuming sure thing.
