Corporations and websites forcing customers to give them pictures of their ID and mugshot to further assist with "customer support" should be illegal and investigated as well. That's a breach of privacy and puts the customer in danger if a data breach were to occur (Sony is an example of being notorious for having constant data breaches yet they still want your personal info). Trump is all about American safety as well, even from domestic overreach. Why does everything circle around the fact that customers and users are always used as rugs to anybody with power over them? Is there a consumer bill of rights? If so, it's badly written since companies are still allowed to get away with what they're doing (can't say the same for government departments as they're in hot water right now). I need to look that up.
Trump having his 18 year old son helping him navigate this is a bigger deal than anyone really understands. This whole thing is his sons wish list for creators online and its important to everyone too.
Smart move to have a direct link to the way things are so Trump can ask his son is this really happening? Instead of asking some random politician who will lie lol.

Im sick of the private platform bs arguement. As it stands your electricity, water, sewer, trash and internet service provider cannot withhold service because they disagree with your opinion. If they did they would face prison. Social media should be treated like utilities.
At this point, I have to agree with you. With how interwoven social media is to the average person's everyday right, this is something to strongly consider.
Your water, electricity, sewer, and trash are essentials to infrastructure. You don't need social media. The private platform argument is actually dumb because they never are willing to decide whether they're a publisher or platform, in which case, they have to decide between legal responsibility, and legal ability to regulate their site beyond prohibiting illegal activity
What they’re doing is already illegal. It’s illegal for companies to collude together to form effective monopolies. The power companies aren’t allowed to ask each other how much they want to charge per kilowatt hour, then all agree to set a price. So why can social media companies all agree on content policy, then all ban Alex Jones within hours of each other?

Censorship is necessary and everyone knows it. Not allowing porn on RUclips is literally a form of censorship, and it is totally fine that RUclips doesn't permit that. Similarly, RUclips can tell you that you can't write homophobic slurs in their comments or they'll remove them. Nothing about this is wrong or immoral. This is just total assholes being upset that they are being stopped from being assholes. Bullies annoyed that the person they are bullying is hitting back. All pathetic.
Yeah, they always use the same empty argument, "it's a private platform". The issue is that the gov., who is obliged to follow the constitution is "collaborating" with corporations to stifle their citizens speech. It's been shown that this was happening on Twitter (and suspected long before) when Musk took over and exposed it all. It's pretty likely that it is currently happening on every other US based social media platform too, including YT.
The funny thing is, not only does he have a majority in Congress, but most of what he said can be done 100% legally via executive orders without even a question of overreach.
@@TheLitRight It's not my expertise, but if he only did executive orders, it feels like that would be too easy to dismantle if someone else came in, though. If he gets it signed off on by everyone else, though, that feels like it would be much harder for them to dismantle it later.

This was 2 1/2 years ago. If he doesn't do these things people will do something. It's getting to the peak and if someone doesn't actually unite us and do some good, it's gonna go crazy.
But the problem is Trump isn’t uniting people. He’s uniting “his” people against everyone else. I don’t like Trump, but I’m not on here trashing people who voted for him or anything. Look at how things have gone since 2016 and how both sides are pitted against each other. This is not a good thing. This is dividing us more than ever, and it will be to our collective detriment. I don’t understand why more people are not concerned about that divide growing and growing. It’s like people who actively try to hurt each other that work for the same company. We are all here together, and if we actually united we could get shit done. But we won’t, not now. We’ve played right into the hands of those in power and that should scare people. What scares me is that it doesn’t.
There is 100% an argument for that, through congressional legislation and laws like trump is proposing. But the argument that the constitution itself protects speech from private actors is straight up wrong (Cruikshank v US)

America's chief allies are the four Five-eyes countries; frankly, Canada and New Zealand ought to be demoted for being spongers. They've taken things for granted for far too long. If Starmer keeps up his antics, UK gets a kick in the pants too.
Other countries deserve a significant upgrade. Trump ought to declare Poland is America's most important EU country in terms of diplomacy, economics, and military. The Baltic states, wee they may be, ought to be given a louder voice. Finland and Italy, perhaps. Germany deserves a significant demotion. Same too for Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, and a few others.
But the US really ought to focus on Asia and Latin America. Japan and S. Korea are solid. In Asia, the US ought to promote the economic development of the Philippines and Indonesia by demanding firms selling to the US reshore from the middle kingdom. US ought to cut it out of its life; treat it like it how the US dealt with the USSR. India is too wishy washy and wants play all sides. Start shifting preferential work visas away from Indians and in favour of Filipinos. Argentina and El Salvador have made significant improvements.

Thats not really accurate. There are plenty of limitations on free speech in the US. Incitement to violence, true threats, obscenity limitations, defamation, limitations on commercial speech, copyright, perjury, revealing classified information etc etc. There are an absurd number of scenarios in which you can get into legal trouble for speech in the US.
