Doesn't matter though, because in the end they are only testing the "Sicherungstechnik" of the Railjet, here the ability to automatically brake in case of a decoupling.
It's about the braking distance of the coach at a certain speed. If a new type of wagon/coach/locomotive is homologated the braking distance that has been calculated during the design of the vehicle has to be verified by real-life tests.
Now that what I call a nice long meter. You really need to know your shunter because they estimate the distance and the difference between them can be big.
okay nach weiterer Nachforschung habe ich etwas gefunden, laut dem manche Speisewagen anscheinend einen haben für den Fall, dass keine Versorgung von der Lok aus möglich ist (wird aber nicht mehr verwendet)
der sinn ist das wenn mal eni zug nicht richtig angekoppelt ist und er sich löst nicht unkontrolliert weiter rollt den wenn der zug dann bremst rast der waggon unkontrolliert auf das zug ende und ebenfalls test der federspeicherbremse
