I was thinking the same as many others with 'ooh this series looks fun...but I'll have a glimpse of the trailer to see what they show.' and then 'Michael Bay!? ffs'. Now I'm amused about how his name has become a symbol of disdain for many in the entertainment industry. He really has fucked himself over by producing complete Hollywood trash. However, some directors/writers/producers come into their own when making a series as opposed to a film since ideas are often best fleshed out.
Some comments below have compared this show to GOT but IMDB gives it a rating of only 7.9 taken from 25,000 votes. I'll give a watch but if i see one transformer in it I'm going to give a 3
Bay produced it, not wrote it, not direct it. It has NOTHING coming out of transformers. Its mainly about human nature, ambition, greed, power, lust, desire. And whores!!! XD
I have gone through 1 & 1/2 seasons in 2 days.. Although i do not agree with a comment of "game of thrones next level shit". This is a good story as it enticingly leads you into the next episode. Fight scenes are worthy, as is the acting. Michael Bay puts together what seems to be an entertaining series, while you wait for your favorite shows to air.
People compare it to Game of Thrones not becauae it has dragons, magic and undeads... But by the rawness of the history and the focus on people's purest desires and ambitions and conspiracy. In that sense both shows nail it! ;)

Secondly, perhaps the majority of the audience are men because they're targeted as the primary audience in the first place, not because they simply are initially more interested in the genre. I think women are intimidated to profess they are fans of the genre because they are not always accounted for by the advertisers and creators of shows - I wish this wasn't the case. Furthermore, there are successful action shows that appeal greatly to men and women that have done really well - Lost, Heroes, Game of Thrones etc. Why can't other shows follow suit?

Sure I get what you mean but even if the series was staring a cast of female only pirates, they will still be considered sexual objects.
lomaniize obviously I know back in those days women were predominantly seen as sexual objects but in this day and age I don't find that portrayal of women relatable. Take Made Men - set in the 60s at a time when the woman's role was still seen by many as in the home. However, although many of the male characters are chauvinistic as they would have been then, it is very sympathetic towards women - they are shown with ambition and depth without departing from historical accuracy. Fine let a pirate show have all male pirates (although there were some famous female pirates), but from what I can gather from the trailer, the female characters seem to only be present for the sole purpose of spicing up the show rather than as interesting characters in their own right.
I watched it from S1 E1 all the way to S4 E3 Once Teach was shot in the head by Rogers that just confirmed for me that the show wasn't following actual history and killed it for me. I hit stop and backed out of the episode and gave the entire series a big dislike button.
