- For some reason this performance isn't as well publicised as their Copenhagen one but it's brilliant and so are the marks! Still, after all these years, Mack & Mabel is my favourite T&D FD.

This is quite simply the greatest isn’t it , choreography is breathtaking, Mack and Mabel soundtrack is superb, i watched this when they first performed it and it remains a pivotal moment in ice dance , everything they do is magical and their contribution to sport is second to none 🥰❤️🥰
Wiping tears away watching this due to the pure art of it. How did they get that good? The skill and chemistry is such a one off in the history of any sport

I never tire of watching this. It is one of my favourite Torville and Dean routines. Love it, the music the Choreography, costumes the whole thing. They are IMO the most brilliantand best ice dancers of all time. Robbed of a second gold medal due to a illegal lift that really wasn't.💕
This program never gets old...brilliant in '82-brilliant in 2020

You will never see better than these two.
wonderful ice dancers still today but these two broke the mould and no one will ever touch them , they changed their sport,
There is not a leg line out of place, everything is perfect, so innovative and the wonderful Alan Weeks commenting. 38 years later this is fresh and original. "Oh my goodness"! as Mr Weeks says!
Even if you break it down to the movement of individual muscles it's difficult to find a flaw.

Loved the theme and storyline of this FD. The costuming was brilliant. The technical skill was amazing, I get dizzy watching the number of hand/dance holds. And, the execution was most definitely 6.0. Nothing to say but "simply the best."

This is still my favourite routine of theirs. I just love Mac 'n Mabel. They captured the era of silent movies perfectly. All 6's should've been given. It was perfect.

@@Person-mh6xq Definitely! Bolero was quite laboured. Mack and Mabel, and the Barnum routines are my favourites.

Everything flows so perfectly, so seamlessly, they were in a class of their own.
What a surprise the USSR judge didn’t give a 6.0 ! They were fantastic,. Best ice dance pair ever in my opinion
I watch them every single day, you would wonder I don’t tire of them, but I never do, their artistry is above and beyond anyone else and they just make me happy. I wish I could meet them if only to see them once in my life. Going through Covid and staying indoors for this year has been hard on us all but I thank God I can immerse myself in the beauty T and D create.

Absolutely amazing, no one can ever touch them even today. They're unique in every way. Just so magnificent , I can watch them all day.
I watch Chris and Jayne dancing every day ~ even multiple times. They are the absolute best ever, and I’ll never tire of seeing their amazing artistry and beautiful relationship.
Other worldly....why isn't ice dance like this anymore? So lucky to be alive to have seen all these performances xx

This is still INCREDIBLE! I was only 8 at the time and remember it so well. What is so extraordinary is their chemistry. Watching it now it’s hasn’t dated in terms of skill and artistry.
I loved seeing their happiness with their 6’s. They deserve it, how hard they worked .
Two words describe it - pure genius.
Pure geniuses they are amazing today as they were then, beautiful xx
And this is when they changed ice dancing programmes forever. Instead of excerpts from different pieces of music of varying tempo, with no underlying theme or story, T&D used one piece of music and dramatic storytelling. Such wonderful innovators.
But it did have change of tempo and style. Bolero did not.

How delightful to see this. I'd heard about this FD but never seen it before due to an idiotic TV station in my city that didn't carry the CBS broadcasts of international figure skating events in the early 80's. Classic ice dancing and not mini-pairs as we have now.

I saw Jayne and Chris perform live in the nineties. They were magnificent, and they came over to chat to the audience after. Lovely, down-to-earth couple. And Jayne is so petite and slim, and I thought she looked very like Leslie Caron.

I was KRAZY about them for 35 years and watched them all the time. I had a mega crush on Chris.. and then I met them. They were really haughty and Chris thinks he grew up in NottingHAM . He also feels American audiences are more sophisticated . I was heartbroken. I cannot deny they will never be bettered as ice dancers when they were at their peak but I don't watch them purposefully now . I hadn't looked for years when this came up on my feed . I have them in my soul but my heart is jaded about them now.😢

Thank you so much Flo! ☺ This was the better performance, and Chris's jacket stayed buttoned up. Lovely camera angles and more intimately covered. Before I had a VCR so this is a real gem for me to watch. At St Ivel Alan Weeks called it "a mini operetta", this, along with their Blues OSP which John Curry (also at St Ivel) described as "the most beautiful thing I've ever seen", what a glorious season that was! 👏 And for many of us, our fave FD. 💕💟

This is the far better video, and thanks for sharing it. All the footage from Copenhagen is SO DARK! Did they not have lights in that arena? This is my second favorite T&D FD; my favorite is the following year, to Barnum.

It is way past time that Chris was knighted and Jayne made a Lady or Dame Im not sure what the appropriate accolade is? Lady Jayne Torvill and Sir Christopher Dean sounds much better!
If it was Sir for Christopher, the it would be Dame for Jane. Lord/Lady is a peerage rather than a recognition.
