Have been through Ophir a number of times. This is the best vid I have ever seen of the power of an avalance, to the point of moving up the other side of the valley.

I don't know what the conditions here were but my guess is the weak layer was a depth or surface hoar cause this was FAST and the slab was just so violently exploding. Impressive footage of an awesome event.

People dont survive ones that big 99.9% of the time. And they were doing that because they dont want some random skier or snowboarder to hike up there and get caught in one of those so they do that for safety purposes. Also so its safe to walk below that area of flow.

did u not read the first three blurbs before the footy of the slides begins? they explain that there was hangfire looming that made clearing the existing debris fields from the roads an incredibly dangerous undertaking. the mitigation work that was done had two purposes 1) to unblock the road so the town's residents could leave, and 2) so the power company crews working to restore electricity to the region weren't in grave peril throughout the job

the reason they caused it is that they want to do it themselfs, they warn all ppl that they will shoot the avalanche. if they dont do it like this, its a big chans that some skier will trigger the avalanche when they havnt warn the ppl living there.
    sry for my bad english

Or trying to save the uh.... town? They don't do control work for a skier or boarder in no mans land.
