Thanks!!! You helped me get through something i was struggleing with .I wanted to set up the sj5000 to do timelapse using external power. Every time I unhooked the power, it stopped recording, but did not start again when power was returned. NOT good over days of time there could be a short power interuption. This SOLVED that problem. Thannks again!!!!
Thanks for the explainer, since the manual doesn't explain all the features in the settings (I wondered what this "Car Mode" does... after 5 years of using the camera occasionally)
Thank you sir for sharing your knowledge about the camera use as a driving mode while charging it is very helpful for me to use the camera and to Mount easy again thank u sir
Good video just one small thing unplug the charger when you start the car never have it plugged in when you start the car you may get an electric surge going to the camera which may damage it. It may not happen 50 times but sooner or later it will.
Most cars nowadays (even my 2007 Yaris does) have the radio and lighter plug on a normally close ACC CUT relay which means the relay coils is powered when the ignition switch is engaged, cutting power to the radio and lighter plug. Some vehicles also have a hard wired lighter plug that is always on and some may have a lighter plug that is on the ACC relay but not ignition cut protected. The later would need to follow Dick's recommendation.
@@EdPMur In fact it can. I had that on my first trip, it erased footage that I wanted to have. There is a setting for it. "Cyclic record" - which i turn of on my vacations. Let me copy a text here from the web, because I couldn't write it better (the last part answers your question): "In conjunction with the Car Mode, the SJ4000 has a Cyclic Record function of 3 minutes, 5 minutes and 10 minutes. What this function does is let the camera record for the selected time whether 3, 5, or 10 minutes and then after the time is up, it saves the file and starts a new video file after that duration time is met. Then when the SD card reaches its full capacity, the camera deletes the oldest file and continues to record and process continues."
@@furulevi I mean while driving, i need the camera to continue recording while I save the last video and lock it so cant be replaced with new recording, anyway I checked and found that the power button can be pressed once and the camera saves and locks the same video as it is clicked and continues to record ,
i have a question as well mate, my car's power socket is very far away from windshield (vw golf mk7) but usb plug is very close to windshield. do you think i can charge the camera via usb plug? when i turn on the engine, will it start recording?
quick question regarding power on to record? does it only do this when power source is plugged into it or does it start recording when you power on manually without the usb lead plugged in? i want to helmet mount tge sj4000 and as i wont be able to see tge device this feature would be very useful to tap on button to power on and to start record and tap again to stop it recording and switch off like the gopro 4 does?
Plug the power cable into the micro USB of the SJ4000, and whenever you plug in the other end of the cable into the 12v socket of the car, the camera will power up and automatically start recording. When the power cable is removed either from the 12v socket or from the camera, the camera automatically stops recording and turns off.
+Jason L I bought it from www.ebay.com It should work on the m10 also because that camera also has a holder (dashboard Bracket) with a screw hole (threaded receptacle).
The battery has to be in the camera! When the battery is removed, but the camera receives power through the micro-USB port, in "car mode" it records the video. When the micro-USB cable is suddenly removed from the camera than the camera does not have power to finish writing the captured data to the card and the final video becomes unreadable!
if you record videos in "car mode" without the battery inserted into the camera, the video files can be repaired later (for me it worked with this program ► grauonline.de/cms2/?page_id=5)
I've put set the camera to Car Mode and tested with a 5V switched feed. Turning the power feed on the camere does not turn on, when i press the front button the Camera turns on and begins shooting, however when I switch the power feed off the camera continues to record and turn off after 1 minute. Is this correct?
@@EdPMur If power via micro usb port only without battery, the date and time will be reset each time you switch off. If I remember correctly someone said the last video clip might not be saved properly if there is no battery.
+Максим Рудиков the camera holder shown at 0:17 came with the camera itself, only the suction cup was bought separately, search "windshield suction cup ball head" on www.ebay.com

I think yes...
This facility is only this GoPro or every one ?
Thx for the perfect explanation ! 👍🏽
does it loop the recording and "drop off" so when the sd card is full it will slowly delet the oldest footage/?
It doesn’t, which completely misses the point of a dashcam. It would have been perfect for me if it did.

You need to use some mounting elements, I should make a video about those.

My camera doesnt have that suckion cup to stick it to the windshield, where did you get it from? Thanks

If I remember well I bought all the components of ebay, everything was in one package, camera, holder elements, floating handle...
Thanks learned something :)
Thanks fams. Very good video.
Thanks for the video. Where did you get the camera holder? Oh, I found the exact same one.
ebay
The only thing thats annoying is the cord is in the way. Did you end up feeding the power cable anywhere out of the way ?
This cable is long enough, so you can place it in different locations...
How can i quick save video to not recording over if i have accidents ? Any button ?
Just unplug the power so it won't record any new videos. But theoretically it should always overwrite the oldest videos (I haven't tried it).

Maybe you are not powering it correctly... Did you used a 12V to 5V car charger?

No, they were ordered separately (ebay).

The remaining recording time is shown in the lower left corner of the screen.
Does it have loop recording (records over past video when memory is full)?

SJ4000 has low bitrate! The video looks pretty perfect on the PC, but in certain cases it can be horrible after uploading to youtube (recompression).
