At 0:40, the interviewer comments"... but Everest is a dangerous place isn't it, which is what Michael then found out." What a totally fatuous comment to make, especially in this context.

Never understood the appeal. It's not the tallest mountain in the world; it's merely the highest. Anyone who has walked Kilimanjaro has traveled a longer vertical distance. Everest is shorter, but you get to brag that you did it while super cold and half dead from oxygen deprivation. Good for you, I guess?

You get to say you stood on the tallest place on earth. A place so tall that, as you acknowledged, human survival is not sustainable. It is quite insane that our atmosphere is so thin that a mountain eclipses it. It is a good representation that the margin of human existence is so narrow. Some people are more afraid of not living, than of dying.

Wait. No… you’re not including the trip to base camp to start with, that takes like 8 days of steady altitude climbing….
Everest and kili do not compare.

The glitz and staging of the documentary, and how unpleasant Spencer came across at times (I.e. when he showed his real character), left a bitter taste and made me question his real motivation for making this

When was he unpleasant on the documentary? You could say he had pressure/need to find his brother, and bring his body back to his family. Who have never had closure to bury their brother/son. Didn’t see a side of spencer that I thought was negative.

He was such a tool using his dead brother for clout.

There’s a reason why they call it the Death Zone up there.
May he rest in peace and I hope this brings some closure to the Matthews family.

Sorry, but you have to make it back down to be worthy of a legacy for mountain climbing. Any fool can climb a mountain and die up there, that's no achievement at all.

I watched this documentary and, if you can imagine a rich Glaswegian family owning a posh Kennsington mansion- that's the low-life vibe this English family gives owning an estate in Glen Affric. Pointless human beings. RIP his brother though.
