    Thank you for the video! I just bought mine for my gravel bike and am a bit confused. If I want more bounce I wind it counterclockwise....correct? And at 160 is that the right spring (the one that came with the post? Their manual is a bit strange. It says the standard seatpost is for up to 75 kg in weight and the next one up goes from 70k to like 95 kg. Seems like that is an error. The standard should go up to 70 and the next one up should start at 75. See the manual online if you would like to verify. Appreciate you answering my questions. Thanks!

    • @TinkeringTurtle
      @TinkeringTurtle  15 дней назад

      Yes, if you want a softer ride turn the adjustment knob counterclockwise. this takes preload off the spring. At 160 lbs, I would think you would want the softest spring. Just keep in mind that this is not an exact science (or adjustment). Mechanical spring design is simply not that precise.
      Me personally, I would try to get the seat post adjusted with the spring that came with it. And if you can’t get it to where you want, then order the soft spring and see if you get a better result with it.

    Thank you for the video, Will it be suitable for mountain biking to absorb shocks? How about the performance on flat surfaces, does it move with every pedal stroke? I am abit worried to lose power while pedaling due to moving seat position. What do u advise

    • @TinkeringTurtle
      @TinkeringTurtle  4 месяца назад

      I don’t notice it moving with pedal strokes too much. Although it is possible it move some. As for mountain biking, it will definitely absorb the shocks. But all that being said I look at this as more of a cruiser accessory. I won’t be able to tell you how it would hold up to mountain biking as I don’t really do that type of riding.

      I have tried two different brands. Cloud9 and YLG oversized. Out of the two I do prefer the Cloud9 by a fairly wide margin. The YLG was just a little tougher to pedal with, and I don’t have that issue with the Cloud9.

    Thanks for the video. You said you always get a 27.2 mm post and purchase a separate shim to make it fit. Have you experience any issues with the post banging or slippage? I have a concern since I'm looking at the Suntour that is 400 mm length and 3.6 mm in diameter. Also, do you have a video on installing the shim?

    • @TinkeringTurtle
      @TinkeringTurtle  Год назад +2

      I haven’t had any issues with the shims. Very occasionally you may see the seat twist slightly after a ride. Then you may need to adjust the clamp a little to be tighter, but it is pretty straightforward.
      I don’t think I have a video showing me putting in the shim. But it is very straightforward. Simply slide the shim into the hole that the seat post goes in. Then slide the seat post into the shim.

      Well the obvious advice is to tighten the cam lock. It will make the handle harder to tighten down but it should eliminate the problem.
      The only other advice would be to try a bigger shim. But the next size up is 30.6mm, and I am not certain if it will work or not. that is a fairly big jump. Here is a link for the 30.6mm if you decide you need to try it.

    • @TinkeringTurtle
      @TinkeringTurtle  Год назад +2

      Absolutely!
      I weigh in at around 300lbs myself. My advice is to get the Suntour NCX (with the 27.2mm post, and a “seat post shim” to bring it up to the size of your bike) with the regular spring that comes stock. Ride it for a while, and see if you can get it adjusted. If you feel like you bounce too much, or it bottoms out and you can’t adjust it out, or it is too soft then you can order the heavier duty spring and add it later like I did. But there is a reasonable chance that the stock spring may work for you, so give it a try first.
      I hope this helps!

      The Bikehand e-bike stand does work well. Although lifting some of these bikes up to get them on can be challenging. If you get one, find a box or something to put the front tire on while you lift the back end up. that will reduce the effort considerably.

      Short answer, yes. I want to say again I, personally, always get the 27.2 mm version of the Suntour post.
