From the place that I stand to the land that is openly free
Watching rivers run black by the trees that are vacant to greed
Give it up
Or tell me why I'm so wrong
Where does love come from
If you've sold your reasoning out
How can I learn if I don't understand what I see
If I'm giving this mess
Take a walk through a nightmare so real
Give it up
Or tell me why I'm so wrong
Where does love come from
When you're never been without

38 years listening to this song and album. MASTERPIECE! Too bad most people never heard of it.
Still listening!
The most underrated band ever. Everybody should know this band.
You know your stuff Willy brilliant 😁
Willy Dafoe - RU the Willy Dafoe? No!
Lol!!
You like Concrete Blonde, so you are worthy!! God bless!!
@Mi K So I suppose you are a simple mind
@Mi K 🤣
@Mi K Good try
This album is the true testament to Mark Hollis' genius. Unlike later albums, every note in this one drips with focused, distilled genius with no meanderings or self indulgence. A true masterpiece of the 80's and beyond that still brings tears to my eyes and brings me right back to the actual spring of 1986 when I was 22 and the world and my future were wide open in front of me...
R.I.P. Mr Hollis...
Well said. This is their masterwork.
Nicely said.
You still have the world in front of you. Your just more experienced now my friend.
Yes this is a masterpiece
@@MrJonpac Thank you! That made my day! And I actually agree. Never been happier in life than I am now but nostalgia is a powerful drug ;)
Masterpiece Indeed👍🙏🏼
Talk Talk is one of the best bands of all time, and sadly under-rated.
Absolutely agree!
My God, this guy's voice. Just digs a hole in me every time I hear it. Enters your ears like honey and burns your heart like acid. And that piano/synth combo .... sublime. Talk Talk is one of the most unsung bands of all time, and Mark David Hollis has a voice others would kill for. Wow.
Beautifully put
Patrick Hodges are you a water sign?
Mark's voice ,, how do I describe the feeling, it makes my nose tingle like I am on the verge of tears.. No one else does that
completely right formuled !
Mark voice was like a music instrument, outstanding 👏
Still makes my eyes water. Rest in peace Mark Hollis.
Had no idea he was gone.
Very sad I was so deverstated when I heard the news of his passing so soon 😭 😭 😭 😭 😭
He'd been very ill 🤒 for some time
He was one unique man rip x
Such a stunningly beautiful song.. Great chords and superb plaintive lyrics 😊
My god I love this song. Mark's voice, the arrangements, the simple but loving melody, just listen to all the instruments ; keyboard, acoustic guitar, piano, drum etc. just listen to the electric guitar "solo" at 3.05 trough 3.29 it's just sending shivers down my spine
Love all the instruments so smooth with a rock pop sound and feel good vocals
It's taken me 2 weeks since the passing of the genius that is Mark Hollis to come on here and post. RIP Mark, you honestly touched the souls of so many people with your amazing voice and incredible songwriting. My heart broke just a little bit on 25th February 2019 :'( xx
@ Louise Marks : He went in time before Covid-19 panics societies
I made the huge error of only listening to - and loving - Talk Talk's hits in the 80's. I never heard this song 'til tonight when I heard Mark Hollis had passed. Talk about missing out - this song is fabulous. I'm on my 3rd listen. RIP, Mark! Gone too soon.
Well, it's never too late to experience beautiful things. And Mark Hollis/Talk Talk made some more brilliant stuff you may not have listened to yet. So, if you want to, try all of 'The Colour of Spring' first. It will give you a sense of where they were heading. Then open yourself up to 'Spirit of Eden' and realize it was sort of impossible and really not done to make an album like that in the 80's. Not many understood what they were doing, especially the pundits. It took me a while.
One absolutely has to follow the whole evolution of Talk Talk's surprising, duzzling introspective spiral revealing secrets of existance from 'The Party's over' in 1982 till "The Laughing Stock" in 1991. "It's My Life, Don't you forget"!!!! (1984)
I was kinda the same. I first heard of them when Such a Shame was on a 84Hits Record (remember those yearly great hits albums?!) in NZ and I was just starting high school. But apart from Life's What You make it, they were, commercially only slightly successful here with the other songs and didn't get much airplay on radio. So I didn't look deeper until buying their Greatest Hits album some years later on tape.
I somehow forgot them till one of their songs came up randomly on youtube a few days ago and got to listening to the Greatest Hits album again for the first time in years. I did a search on Wikipedia and was so sad to see mark Hollis had passed away. There were some fantastic bands in the 80s (definitely my favourite decade of music) and Talk Talk was definitely one of them.
R.I.P Mark Hollis, talented genius.
The last month I was listening a lot of Talk Talk, it was a disgusting surprise.
@@nicolasguardia6684 So U just " gotta give it up" !
A PURE GENIUS FOR CERTAIN ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
TOO true ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
the best voice from england rock , we will miss you mark , i din't know you die , i am crying now 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
RIP Mark Hollis, your music will remain with us.
It most certainly will!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I saw them as the support act to Duran Duran, it was a no contest, talk talk were absolute class.
Real musicians, real singer, real music...
im 51 and been listing to this song all these years and it still does for me
richaroma123 me too!
ditto
Yo here too.
I'm 29 and this is easily one of my favourite songs/bands!
Same! I'm 50 and I am haunted by his death. Rip...
This mans music rocks the soul
Mine too !!♥️♥️♥️
Great song.
Amazing bass...
RIP Mark Hollis
Yeh, true that bro.
I started listening to Talk Talk from the very beginning and was always somewhat perplexed and frustrated that more of my contemporary music fans didn't recognize how wonderfully unique and talented they were. This album cemented my love and admiration for them - the magical and amazing low keyed vocals from Mark, the songwriting, the humble combination of rather straightforward instrumentation and above all, the technically perfect and restrained keyboards, especially the growling Hammond organ. Listening to this now, some 40 years layer brings a nostalgic lump in my throat and a comforting warmth - for the everyday music fan, this is one of the best bands you've probably never heard of (save for "It's My Life" and Gwen Stefani's ham handed cover) God, Mark's voice and that powerful Hammond still gives me goosebumps. Just like they did when I first heard them. So good.
Hi I recommend a song called 'Looking Into The Mirror' By Robert Nix
Ya Man ....
Great voice. And some mellotron. Three thumbs up.
Too TRUE totally AWESOME 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
First time listening to this song and my mind is blown. Wow.
Listen to "Life is What You Make it" also
I know right? I've been playing it non stop since I first heard it in July
RIP Mark 🙏 Your words will live forever within me
God yes, so true
Thank you Mark Hollis
frode - 😢😪😭😭❤️
The music of Talk Talk was beautiful!
Color of spring is such a masterpiece of what the late great Mark Hollis and company can come to deliver an totally perfect album of such beautiful music
The true geniuses always burn so brightly and so swiftly. God bless you Mark your lyrics and songs have an everlasting effect on not only my life but so many others too.
Wspaniały utwór zespołu można słuchać w nieskończoność a głos wokalisty ❤
Thankful for you, Mark Hollis. RIP brother
Talk Talk are one of those bands that made 80's music so great!
One of the best but most under rated bands ever. :-)
After It's My Life becoming a hit second time round as a single, followed by the re-issue of Life's What You Make It in 1990,I could see songs such as this gaining a lot more success at the second attempt too if re-released in the early part of the 90s. All of which could raise the profile of the band and the albums,of course.
Before Radiohead there was Talk Talk. Pure genius.
And there was Porcupine Tree...
Radiohead were not a patch on Talk Talk.RIP Mark.x
this has also crossed my mind... cheers
Correct sir.
There's nothing that beats this kind of soothing music
One of so many brilliant soul-touching songs❤️❤️❤️
Will miss your voice forever... Thank You Mark!
Talk talk all the way for me❤️ broke my heart when Mark passed 😢❤️
Nice bass line. :)
Rip Mark. Amazing talent of the time.👌🍷
Enjoying this for the first time in who knows how long after hearing the sad news of Marks passing. Another musical hero leaves us to join the great gig in the sky..........
I cry tonight
Me too 😢😢
I'd read that Steve winwood play the organ on this, anyone know if this true?
@@antonyburton89 Yes, i believe that's correct.
I'm crying too. His music pulled me through some rough teen years. Listening to this album let me know that beauty and love still existed in my world bc of his music. May he RIH ! I'm shook. But grateful to have heard his gift to us. 💛
One of the best bands of the 80's right here
Unforgettable songs. Unforgettable sound. Unforgettable voice. Unforgettable face. Thanks for all you brought us. RIP Mark Hollis. Genius.
Too my eternal shame I had never realised before how good TalkTalk, or Mark Hollis, were.
I was vaguely aware of a "poppy" band back in the early '80's when like everyone else I was rushing to my demise, but today, taking time to listen properly, I have been able to appreciate the enormous talent that was Mark Hollis and his colleagues... and sadly I'll never be able to tell the guy how much I admire his work.
From what I have read here though his immortality is a given ~ and well deserved.
fantastica canzone, la generazione di oggi non apprezza queste canzoni, questa e' vera musica
From the place that I stand
To the land that is openly free
Watching rivers run black
By the trees that are vacant to greed
Gotta give it up
Gotta get a second chance
Gotta give it up
Gotta get a second chance
And the jokes just started
Gotta give it up,
Give it up,
Give it up
Gotta give it up
Or tell me why I'm so wrong
Where does love come from
If you've sold your reasoning out
How can I learn
If I don't understand what I see
If I'm giving this mess
Take a walk through a nightmare so real
Gotta give it up
Gotta get a second chance
Gotta give it up
Gotta get a second chance
And the jokes just started
Gotta give it up,
Give it up,
Give it up
Gotta give it up
Or tell me why I'm so wrong
Where does luck come from
When you've never been without
Give it up,
Give it up,
Give it up
Gotta give it up
Give it up,
Give it up
Gotta give it up
Tell me if I'm so wrong
Where does love come from
If you've sold your reasoning out
Or tell me if I'm so wrong
Where does luck come from
When you've never been without
Can do it
You can do it
You can do it
Gotta give up
Cheers pal
One of the best albums of alternative/indie pop-rock music of the all times
Best band ever. Best album ever. Period.
+reepicheep66 Agree
My favourite album for sure, with the Queen is Dead, VivaDixieSubmarineTransmissionPlot, Under The Western Freeway pushing it close
Fantastic🥇🥇🥇
Eh. They are an awesome band. But the Beatles still number 1.
@@squinteastwood4637 Question of generation 😉
A superb song. So heartfelt. How was this not a massive hit?????? I bought it as a single!!
It was a massive hit to all of their fans. What more do you want ? Validation by the masses?
he was talking about the charts single
That would mean more touring, more music, more airplay. More (Well deserved) money for them. Are any of those bad?
Ann Marie Hughes Exactly. My thoughts precisely.
It did reach the top 75.
Mark Hollis RIP, THANK U FOR ALL THE CLASSIC Talk Talk songs.
My favorite single

Give it up! Got to!. This hit makes you feel, and I mean FEEL!
Loved and will be missed x
sounds as fresh today, as it did back then.
Talk Talk !!!!!!!!!! The best !!!!!!
Whoever created this music is an artist that has taken his inspiration directly from God
This song, 'Happiness Is Easy', 'I Don't Believe In You' and 'Time It's Time' are true gems. Time can do nothing against them.
Probably the best songs produced by the best producer played by the best musicians.
I would buy anything Mark Hollis does.
Can’t get in my head mark has gone ,music will ring in the ears for my lifetime ,legend
@How 2 "It's My Life! Don't you forget..."

Been there, done that.......Love It All..!!!!!!!
talk talk are great.such feeling in all their songs.
Yes true, so lacking in most of todays loveless music
i know the world is a mess when i see a dislike for a talk talk track .
Don't smoke and listen to it
I think people hit the thumbs down indiscriminately all over You Tube. I highly doubt they sought out Talk Talk specifically to dislike. :)
@@joshuajones2625 😂

There is nothing - NOTHING! - Which Hollis and Talk Talk have done that isn't absolutely superlative. This musical group was far-too-far ahead of its' time. Brilliant.
Fantastic Mark Hollins rip
RIP Mark. 😔
Beautifull Song i love
Siempre me gustaron las portadas de sus albumes. Luego he leído que buscaban eliminar lo superfluo y convertir el silencio en sonido. Así entenderás que dejaran de ser comerciales y no siguieran.
Originales!!!! Han pasado 20 años.
Thanks so much for letting me find it.
Happy New Year from SPAIN!!!
The best of the best 👌
One of the best albums of 1986
