The most amusing thing with all of these secret societies proliferating throughout history is how it shows that adult, seemingly "elevated and superior" men just loooooove having secrets clubs and weird funny rituals just like we all did as kids.

3:03. Fun fact about the abolition of the Jesuits. Despite being formally disbanded by the pope 51 years earlier, when Norway first got its modern Constitution in 1814, it did still take the time to explicitly ban the Jesuits from entering the country (Jews were unfortunately also banned). Then, literally two months later in august of 1814 the Pope restored the Jesuits.
Despite the universal ban of the Jesuites, the ban was not literally universal, the kingdom of Prussia and the polish part of the Empire of Russia decided that they would not apply that edict of the Pope, because they didn't like him ^^
The Jesuites survived during the 50 years of ban, although with difficulty, they lost 90% of their members, from 23 000 to 2 000 members. But they still were there, so it make sense to still legislate against them ^^
And if you're wondering why the Pope banned them, then his successor changed his mind, it's because of the Enlightenments. In the 1750s and 70s, a lot of catholics kingdoms had "enlightened despots" like Friedrich the Great who conisdered that religion should be destructured, and that the Jesuits were a major pillar of the Papacy, so it was easy to attack the jesuites to diminish the influence of the Pope in their lands. And the Pope finally accepted the general pressure and banned the Jesuits in 1773.
And twenty years later, the French revolted, with the ideas of the Enlightments as their main inspiration, and decapitated a king to proclaim a Republic... Let's just say, that it changed the opinion of a lot of monarchs about this whole Enlightment XD
And so after the big mess that had been Napolon's wars, the Pope thought it could be a good time to reinstate the jesuits that he never really wanted to ban in the first place XD
@@krankarvolund7771 It is also worth mentioning that the Jesuits always opposed the idea of absolute monarchy. They proposed that the people had the right to rebel if their rulers behaved like tyrants, something that enlightened despots abhorred.

I've really been loving this series.
I joined a secret society myself in my early adult life (the secret society was officially dissolved years ago after decades of slow decay) so hearing the story of others, less secret secret societies has been very interesting to me.

Association with the illuminati is one of the easiest ways of detecting if a conspiracy is actually viable or outright deranged

Technically, the rosae crucis wasn’t an official order, someone under the name of Christian rosencruetz published three rosicurcian manifestos, so, in England a group of Freemasons founded the Soceitas Rosicrucianas in Anglia, from there, three of the members from the S.R.I.A. Founded the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn
Fun fact: there is an active Freemason building in Orange County, California, and it’s 100% hiding in plain sight in right at the Orange circle in olde Town Orange.

Jesuits are instrumental in the cultivation of native talent in the Philippines when it was under Spanish colonial rule due their more lenient and egalitarian approach, their greatest product being writer and national hero Jose P. Rizal. The influence of the Jesuits in the Philippine Revolution is great enough that they are considered by law (of the First Philippine Republic) one of the two foreign-based religious orders allowed to operate in the Philippines. The school that they founded - Ateneo de Manila - still exists and to this day remains as one of top performing schools in the country (also one of the most expensive since they cater to the very rich and they are located on the more expensive part of the city of Manila, National Capital Region)...

In my homeland (Czechia or Czech republic) we had a secret Society in medieval times. They called themselves Brotherhood of Hammer and Hoop. Anfortunately we don't have much information. I only find that, They meet each other in Prague house called Hammer an Hoop. Members are mostly nobles and rich merchants. Some of them were closed to king Václav the fourth. They support ideas of Jan Hus. We know only one Member: Čeněk z Vartenberka. That's all what is known about this Society.

Lovely video. I remember watching Court Cam on TV where one man sings "We are the Illuminati" in a hopeless bid to disrupt the court proceedings bc he was going to jail.
You can do so whenever you choose. But since you mentioned Freemasonry in this video perhaps you could do a video on them at some point in the future.

I think it was very early lore about a secret group of emperor worshippers that try to revive him into a chaos god by sacrificing the Sensei (the illegitimate children of the emperor) to him. when i was still volunteering at my local library, before i became properly employed there, a patron asked me about the reading program shirt i'd received from the staff because apparently one of the stylized letters used on it looked like the Illuminati symbol for time (for context, it was a collection of letters or things that were artistically cropped to _look_ like letters and spelled out "read by design"). i just said that i wouldn't know anything about that :P
Makes you wonder to the extent this stuff gets recorded. I mean, yeah I'm sure confessions are kept for evidence, but for a sufficient amount of info to be written down, and then kept long enough and consolidated enough for historians to have a concise idea about what happened? Like at any point the references could've been accidentally destroyed or thrown out.
