This song summed it up when I left a bitter marriage 20 years ago. Back then the pain was so deep I remember saying to myself "geez, I wish it was 20 years from now." Well, it is now 20 years later. Those wounds healed but it took a long time and needed a lot of effort. For people finding things unbearable now, all I can say is hang in there, have faith and you will be freed from it.
