I really like the fact that the movement in the Observatoire comes from the era when mechanical watches where actually the one and only option, so you somehow get a feeling of satisfaction wearing the watch that you simply can not get with any new movement. Philippe Dufour is incredible as well, Simplicity is a gorgeous watch. I actually wouldn't know which one to choose, probably would go with the Observatory...
Honestly, you have the best watch-related RUclips channel! I keep checking your channel daily to see if you uploaded new videos.. I wish you would publish videos more often.. Anyway, keep up the good work!!
David Luzsi Thanks! Sometimes I wonder if some production/editing would be better, but there's something great about raw footage that gives the best idea of how these things are like in real life.
That's the first time I've seen the correct Roman IV used and I restored dials for a living for many years. Also the IV and VII being upside down to the normal would drive me and my OCD nuts. Lovely watch thanks for sharing.
Darn, my old age pension can not cover the cost. Glad you have not told me how much ! As a Watch stunning, i would buy it in a minute if I had the Money. The closest I can com is my vintage 1961 Seiko skyliner 36 mm and a 34 mm dial . Simple and still lovely to look at. Seikosha 402 movement.
It's a staggeringly beautiful watch. Obviously a once in a lifetime purchase. I think you could have easily made that point without the constant statements about how much better than a simplicity it is. A completely different but in its own right an equally staggering timepiece. Just my 2 cents. Still enjoyed viewing a watch I'll never own. Sam
how do brands like voutilainen and philippe dufour compare in terms of quality, durability and time keeping to the big ones like patek philippe, vacheron constatin and audemars piguet? may be a very stupid questions but I'm quite new to this wonderful world, thanks.
It depends on the watchmaker. Those who are more avant garde don't follow that rule but more traditional watchmakers such as Kari generally will. Automatics as a rule of thumb are generally more complicated than manual winds, if you exclude additional complications. So without the need for a winding rotor the entire movement can be viewed, to showcase the quality of the finishing. When you get into really expensive watches, ones that won't get that much wear, the convenience of an automatic movement becomes less important. And for me personally the weight of a rotor moving around while you're wearing it is not pleasant, so it is less elegant in that regard. But i'm sure there are endless other reasons.
hi. i find your comparaison with Dufour inappropriate and i hope not disrespectfull. Dufour is working alone in a relatively small and simple workspace. There is many hands on a Voutilainen watch. And also a Voutilainen is hand made yes, with some very complex and costly machines for some parts. There is no secrets.
@@TickTocking Most of the time, Dufour is working alone. Just because working with him seems to be very difficult. There's were is the main difference with Voutilainen. It's not the same type of production, at all. Dufour's production is much more simple and close from the idea of an humble craftmanship from the past in the "vallée de joux" . This doesn't take anything out of the fantastic job of Kari Voutilainen.
@@gautier5136 Dufour is the master of finishing and looking at the caseback is pure magic. The production of the Simplicity goes through a lot of different hands. The case, dial and movement parts are cnc made outside of his atelier. He does much of the finishing and assembly himself, but he has helpers, or had anyway, with production of the Simplicity. Even Roger Smith has a team of around 10 persons all in all working for him including state of the art CNC machine. There still are a few independents around making a handfull pieces a year (Max) without the use of CNC and with only a couple people involved. The total time spent on any of the pieces from Dufour, Voutilainen, Greubel and Roger Smith are very high compared to any manufacture making more than perhaps a 100 pieces a year.
I know these are hand made, hence the 80K price range, are there any watches similar to this with in the 5K range? Like say for example the Ophion Velos salmon which is around 3K and is almost as nice as this one with the tear drop lugs & dial finish. Please if any one have any idea let me know.
They are priced upon request since this watch is most likely for sale. They go for around 80K starting. But you could get into 7 figures for a bespoke piece. crazy stuff!
Really nice watch. However I am disappointed with the assebly screws on the movement and the ones holding the caseback. The movement screws are all missaligned and some are in a Geneve pattern and it looks messy. The caseback screws. Are also all missaligned.
My God that is one of the most beautiful classic dress watches I’ve ever seen. What a great piece!
Probably the most perfect looking watch I've ever seen. At that's just on video! Thanks for sharing.
Absolutely stunning! You get lost when looking at the movement. Every single detail, honed to perfection. Thanks for sharing with us all 👍
I just love Kari, no other living watchmaker is like him.
Thanks for sharing the great content :)
"...and you're not gonna see anything better than this." That is the best closing line possible. Excellent video, and a grail-worthy watch.

I agree! Authenticity is key here. Keep up the good work..
Thanks, guys!
David Luzsi Absolutely. Regular reviews of rare timepieces. Much thanks, Steve!
+TickTocking : Your vids are really great...make more please :-) and also, no need of editing, you talk well..
Stunning watch ❤️

Absolutely marvelous watch. Congratulations to proud owner. Deep bow to the maker !
Hey, what a great video! Honestly review-wise it doesn't get much better than this...keep it up :-) And the watch...my god, what a beauty...
Very well presented, loved it. Thank you
Thank you for doing these videos. It's hard to find good videos of independent watchmaking.
What a creation. My god, the dial, lugs, Breguet hands, I love those lugs. Kari is quite beyond my means, but it's nice to look.
Keep up the great work! Not that often we have a u2b channel full of unboxing these rareseen treasures!

such a nice watch
best watch videos. I appreciate the honest reviews and high quality content
Is it just me or does he handle this work of art with incredible disregard??
love these timepieces where the dial goes all the way to the edge of the case. No bezel watches are beatuful. The lugs are stunning
You so lucky to have that awesome watch.
Work of art.
Wow, that's one beautiful watch!
My favorite watch
As always one of the grail watch reviews!! Don't even know the name of this brand. Is it an independent brand?
Kari is the man, wow 🤩
Very cool. I don't know if I could wear a watch that's only 1 of 50. I'd be a nervous wreck.
i love this Watch !! it's a remake of 1936's watche. Very nice
Truly a master piece!
But after all that, ask Kari how to pronounce his name.
Cheers from Marjaana Voutilainen
A true masterpiece. Not sure where you'll go from here. Maybe a Roger Smith?

The watch smashed the chronometer test.

That's amazing watch
Unbelieveable watch.
This is awesome. Thanks so much
steve hallock rocks
A very nice time piece, but I would not call it "to die for'" even though it cost £66,000
please do a review of simplicity
independent watchmakers seem to tend to build non-automatic watches.. is there any reason?

Dufour does not work alone except when he could not find people to work with him. And the almost none parts are created in his small work space

Very well said , I find dufour watches boring too.
Voutilainen wins , hands down.
Great review.
What’s the cost?
measured in arc degree seconds so its actually tuned to the universe
Jewel
how much is it ????
Vacheron Constantin Lugs inspire all brands .

D. Dornblüth & Sohn is the closest you are going to get to handmade for $5k.
I don't see the original movement name, Kari didn't make it. He just put his dial and hands on it. Common now.
Not true, it's totally 100% Voutilainen own shop product.
!!!
price?

you can tell if it is an high-end watch by looking at its box.
there is nothing unique about this watch, except it is hand made and it looks like a pocket watch rather.
Time is a dead god Cronus 💐🌑👍 rest in the good news 💐 Okay bye
puts breguet finishing to shame
Really nice watch. However I am disappointed with the assebly screws on the movement and the ones holding the caseback. The movement screws are all missaligned and some are in a Geneve pattern and it looks messy. The caseback screws. Are also all missaligned.
Oh god... I just wet myself.
Great video, but please be more gentle when handling watches of this caliber. I cringed too many times watching this video.
reminds me of a breguet
It's not perfect!!!!
No gloves? You are handling one of the world's most valuable time pieces like its a Casio... Lol
Gloves = drop watch
Obviously, I would rather prefer to get a Breguet...
TaG hEUEr No problem, I’m sure Voutilainen doesn’t mind.
