    I like how Paul Hedderman talks about the two Yous. The you that’s being searched for and the one that’s doing the searching. One exposes the other, while paradoxically neither exists.

    I'm old enough that whenever I hear, Who Are You?, that song 'Who Are You' by the band The Who automatically begins playing in my head... Lol.
    And for the longest time I've had no idea what you and others have meant by 'the gap'... I believe I heard you say in this video it's the space between thoughts. Is this correct?
    Thank you for your exceptional devotion to awakening. 🙏💞🕊️

    I only experienced this once. I was sitting on a bench trying to do this exercise and eventually I decided to "zone out" like I used to do in maths class. I noticed how my consciousness was awake with no effort. No pushing. Just floating. It was marvelous.
    Unfortunately this lasted some 5 minutes before the gears started turning again. And I've lost it since!

    • @Sean.F
      @Sean.F 5 месяцев назад +7

      Lovely comment, very relatable!
      *Worth considering:* are you comparing a "peak" experience - a memory (thought) of a specific event, a sensation, an idea about what's "needed", or a specific state - to what your experience NOW "should be" or isn't?
      Are you looking for that particular experience again since you've "lost" it? Trying to get those some 5 minutes of 0% effort, 100% floating again?
      What if that's simply not here right now besides as just another thought, another desirable fantasy? The push and pull to "not push and pull anymore"...
      What if YOU still are here regardless, no matter how much pushing there is or how experience changes?
      And maybe rather than the 5 minutes - there's only a few microseconds of 30% effort,70% floating? What if those seconds can open up to more once THIS experience is seen for what it is, once it's welcomed, not dismissed for being "lesser" than the remarkable experience that's being sought after through thoughts?
      Writing this for my own sake too, Comparison can be very tricky. Thankfully we're always right here, so we always have the chance to notice it, then notice what's underneath / beyond it.

    When asking who are you, there are no thoughts. But there is a contraction in my body. It’s as if that contraction prevents thoughts from appearing, I’m guessing like a freeze response? So it’s deceiving because there are literally no thoughts that come up, so I can’t tell if it is this freeze response, or an actual gap.
    When I put my attention on the contracted body part, it moves to a different part of my body. After five minutes of chasing it around, I got so anxious that it felt like I couldn’t breath unless I controlled my breath. Like I couldn’t let my body breath on its own.

    • @Sean.F
      @Sean.F 5 месяцев назад +2

      This is wonderful, very vivid description of it. And it may be uncomfortable to experience, but it sounds like a fantastic place to inquire from!
      If you don't mind me asking, since I've felt similar things before - What do you feel in the rest of the body, if you let the contraction be after the question, but focus on other areas without chasing it?
      And during the chase, what do you feel is the "relationship" with that contraction?
      For example, Is it like a "police chase", going after a criminal or adversary? A "play chase", full of lightheartedness and fun? Or is it chasing after a "guide", curiously showing you around and leading you somewhere unexpected?
      How would you describe the feel of it, the view of it? Is that view sticky, rigid, or flexible and something you can play with too?
      I get the feeling that we often ignore the "view" we add to the experience, when it can affect it VERY strongly in these subtle places. How was the view even formed, what conclusions or beliefs lead to it? Can the view change? And how does that change the experience, or what DOESN'T change when the view does? What's unchanging?
      Would love to hear more!

    I have listened to this one 5 times now. This direct pointing, especially the second half of the video for folks (like me) who dont see a "gap" has been really valuable. After sitting with the "find the you that does not change with thought" , I see why I did not (and still dont ) see a "gap" , its because I have formed a concept on what a "gap" is and I am seeking it. Just dropping that notion of having to find a gap as a "success" criteria (which you also called out) has helped a lot. Yes you are right that its ok to not see the gap and something in the way this message was delivered in this video makes me not feel frustrated that I dont see the gap , yet there is a mystery to it. I dont have words to describe anymore. Just wanted to share what helped and wanted to say thanks!

    Hey, question: what about feelings? I've been taught to carry an elevated emotion such as love through out my life...
    I can still notice the mind's activity comes and goes while I'm experiencing "carrying" this emotion, but I think it is counter-productive towards total mind freedom. But at the same time, if I'm just always empty, people are literally repelled from me.

    Does Consciousness require Ownership? None is found.
    Nor a Dream Character stating, “I AM.” But One saying, “I AM NOT.”
    Consciousness displaying the Universe, without a verifiable Being.
    JUST THIS happening spontaneously to No One. Allow the Mind to accept JUST THIS without changing, resisting, or labeling.
    Only Consciousness remains Constant. Forms, Shapes, Colors, Thoughts, Sounds are all just modifications in Consciousness.

    What's the nature of presence?

    • @morbb5691
      @morbb5691 5 месяцев назад +1

      Presence is noticable, though subtle. It's not something dramatic; it's not gonna hit you over the head like a 2 x 4 with some kind weird sensation or anything. In my current experience, Presence is subtle though noticable when thoughts and emotions aren't too stirred up. Presence is like an energetically neutral sense of well being. It never changes; it's always the same, always there. It is always calm and peaceful. Presence is also called consciousness. Consciousness is Being; Beingness, existence, the "I Am". If you can notice Presence, just notice it. Don't try to do anything with it. You can't, anyway, so just notice it, observe it. It's actually what 'we' are (though there is no 'we').

    I don't notice much of a gap, but I don't really notice an answer either. My attention doesn't go anywhere in particular. The question doesn't really land anywhere. Does it even make sense? What is "who"? What is "I"? There's just this experience. There is the thought/feeling of being a me that is the thinker/senser/controller, but I don't find anything if I look for it. There doesn't seem to be anything to find, no special direction I could possibly look. Yet it continues the way it always has, with no conclusive finding, maybe just more skepticism.
