@@agrant4701 It was a complicated thing for devs to work with. The cell processor in the PS3 wasn't exactly user friendly. But when they made it work, it was capable of producing some great games.

Someone mentioned Ram, the Devs also mentioned like UC1 flanking enemies got a little too frustrating at times. It would have been nice if the new Grounded difficulty kept/added some of this though.

My absolute favorite part of this demo was the struggle for the shotgun towards the end. It made the whole fight seem way more authentic and i wish that they had kept it in the final version.
This trailer shows exactly the human condition that they're living after the apocalypse. Having to brutally kill people without thinking twice to survive. It's amazing

Anyone notice that Joel can sprint crawl in the demo? Why did they ditch that as well as the dialogue? It was spot on. Also, the full on panic mode at the end from the AI's realization that it was about to die added a realistic touch. Why would the people who tested this drop or complain about what I've mentioned? I don't think I could ever understand because I'm not a game designer. To be fair though, the game turned out remarkably well, regardless of the exclusions in the demo. Good job Naughty Dog. Hopefully you'll all have time in the future to make a sequel with Joel and Ellie or a separate story that involves Tommy and Joel surviving during the 20 year time skip. Really would love to see how they went there separate ways.
The memory of PS3 is the most important thing. They had get rid of little things as you mentioned, to satisfy gamers with nice graphics and with longer game story.
There's a moment that happens sometimes when you melee an opponent were he falls to his knees. You can grab him, melee one more time to see a bad as finishing animation by joel, or aim your gun at him which will give you an automatic auto aim head shot. When you aim at him he will beg for his life just like in the video. Besides a couple of animations that needed to be taken out and a few mechanics that needed to be changed for game play balance. If you play similar in style most everything in this video can happen in the final game.
shaunthesheep24 This didn't even look like a demo, it just looked like a pre-rendered encounter, where every little shot and reaction was programmed just for the sake of the presentation. It was obvious that this wouldn't be the final product (or close to it), just look at how long all of the animations took to execute (getting ammo, escaping grapples etc.), none of that would be practical and the player would get tired of it very quickly. An impressive 'demo', but an outright lie.
Jason Duverney I played and completed the game recently, the game handled incredibly well and I couldn't recommend it any more than I do right now, but this trailer is incredibly pre-rendered, so to speak.You can tell they purposely edited/animated stuff in a way to really emphasise the AI and fluid gameplay, which really didn't need to be done as the actual enemies handle themselves to the same effect etc.
A lot of this stuff never happens in the game, they were just trying to show off here...but I give them the pass cause the game ended up delivering one of the greatest gaming experiences of all time.

@@miladantoine4566 few things showed in this video never happen in the actual game and are impossible to do like the possibility to disarm an enemy who is holding a shotgun and hit him with it or drag an enemy to a nearby table and smash his head on it, that only happens if the table is right behind the enemy your fighting.
I wish the AI hadn't been so downgraded. Seeing them act like that in this trailer was impressive. it would've been even more to see it in the actual game...

yeah, but not necessarily centered on Joel and Ellie. Maybe have them appear in a scene or two - or have a small period of time where you play as one of them, but I think that their story as we saw it in the game is over. Maybe even a prequel that focuses on Ellie's mom and Marlene, and how the fireflies began.
Little did anyone know how much of a popular game this would turn out and how this game would be a favourite for many, not to mention how immersing and fun the story was.

I'll tell you what's great about it. Hype. The game is overhyped, that's what's great about it. Mechanics we never got to see in this game or it’s sequel: -Crouch Sprinting -Enemies hiding behind corners -Enemies pleading in reaction to human shields -Enemies fleeing gunfire into cover -Enemies reacting to a Molotov being thrown at them -Grappling weapons from enemies -Enemies tackling you to the floor -Ranged weapon melee attacks like a shotgun bash or pistol whip (outside of hold ups)
I wish they had more of the breathing, you know the exhaustion after a fight in the original game, made it seem to realistic. Still my second favorite game of all time, right behind Uncharted : ))

"design decisions. we wanted the game to be as fluid as possible & a cover button just wasn't flowing with the stealth. regarding crouch-sprint, it just complicated the controls too much & people just ended up crouching around the entire game. it looked funny, and there wasn't any risk-reward to the decision to either crouch, stand, or sprint... so being more discreet made it clearer for the players what the consequences of their choices were going to be."
Knurdyob I kinda which they still made it work. For example, if crouch sprint near an enemy, they would still notice you. But it be a useful tool to move quickly from cover to cover but at a lower profile so it's harder for the enemy to shoot you. But honestly the AI isn't the best to give you enough challenge for that anyway...lol

I'm still waiting for current gen games to have this much attention to detail. This game isn't as graphically impressive as some current gen games now but the animation, attention to detail. The way Joel walks and the camera sways ever so slightly. The way the characters interact when you travel together. The way you fight and it feel so brutal and the use of environments seem to seamless. Fighting also has a sense of weight to it and a sense of danger and intensity. The characters react to just about everything going on. The world design is incredible too. Most of the games locations are littered with detail and feel authentic because they aren't perfectly modeled and places feel like they really have been inhabited. The AI also reacted appropriately most times to what you were doing. enemies would actually run away or sneak on you. I like the level of thought Naughty Dog puts in their games.

You're right. The especially since Ellie was 14 in the year 2033, - so considering now they have confirmed it with the trailer along with the fact she will be 19 years old, the game should be released 2018 as this will be 2038
I felt like grounded, even though an extra difficulty seems like a minor update, really is the purest way to play tlou. After 20 years of looting, useful supplies would only be left in the spots nobody else thought to look. And as much as I think the ‘listen’ mechanic works really well, without it the tension was so much thicker. I found myself turning UP the tv when I was scared shitless surrounded by clickers. But yeah, this part and the hotel basement were brutal. If you finished any fight with low health and no supplies, you basically had to play perfectly through whatever came next.

Last of Us ran at 720p/30fps, that wasn't in impressive in 2013. PC were playing 1080p/60fps as a standard in 2007.

yeah, but not necessarily centered on Joel and Ellie. Maybe have them appear in a scene or two - or have a small period of time where you play as one of them, but I think that their story as we saw it in the game is over. Maybe even a prequel that focuses on Ellie's mom and Marlene, and how the fireflies began.
Little did anyone know how much of a popular game this would turn out and how this game would be a favourite for many, not to mention how immersing and fun the story was.
It’s been over 10 years since this trailer and almost 10 years since the game. This video is ingrained in my brain.

The game is overhyped, that's what's great about it. People easily fall into this hype train, and think that this is a great game when in fact it's barely a mediocre game at best.
As someone who never played the game and am watching the show now, I envy all of you. You got to experience this a whole decade ago. You are so lucky.

-Enemies hiding behind corners
-Enemies pleading in reaction to human shields
-Enemies fleeing gunfire into cover
-Enemies reacting to a Molotov being thrown at them

-Enemies tackling you to the floor
-Ranged weapon melee attacks like a shotgun bash or pistol whip (outside of hold ups)

Got the platinum trophy, played it idk how many times anymore and could always go for another play through. This still gives me chills.
we are in the same boat, played it 10+ times on ps3 and a few more on the ps4 pro. never gonna get sick of it.
I wish they had more of the breathing, you know the exhaustion after a fight in the original game, made it seem to realistic.

8 years ago and that AI is still super impressive. The way the enemies react to an empty gun and make it seem so fluid. So impressive.
In the final game the AI is very retarded however

@@dejiko No I tested it the one thing they did keep in was if you shoot an empty gun and they hear that click sound. They will react to it, they will yell to their buddies stuff like "he's out of ammo."

hunter jones Bruce Straley game director for TLOU answered a question regarding crouch sprint on Reddit.
"design decisions. we wanted the game to be as fluid as possible & a cover button just wasn't flowing with the stealth. regarding crouch-sprint, it just complicated the controls too much & people just ended up crouching around the entire game. it looked funny, and there wasn't any risk-reward to the decision to either crouch, stand, or sprint... so being more discreet made it clearer for the players what the consequences of their choices were going to be."
Knurdyob I kinda which they still made it work. For example, if crouch sprint near an enemy, they would still notice you. But it be a useful tool to move quickly from cover to cover but at a lower profile so it's harder for the enemy to shoot you. But honestly the AI isn't the best to give you enough challenge for that anyway...lol

Best game ever.
I'm still waiting for current gen games to have this much attention to detail. This game isn't as graphically impressive as some current gen games now but the animation, attention to detail. The way Joel walks and the camera sways ever so slightly. The way the characters interact when you travel together. The way you fight and it feel so brutal and the use of environments seem to seamless. Fighting also has a sense of weight to it and a sense of danger and intensity. The characters react to just about everything going on. The world design is incredible too. Most of the games locations are littered with detail and feel authentic because they aren't perfectly modeled and places feel like they really have been inhabited. The AI also reacted appropriately most times to what you were doing. enemies would actually run away or sneak on you. I like the level of thought Naughty Dog puts in their games.
Kyreem Powers The whole entire thing is scripted. You won't be seeing this sort of thing in a full game for a few more decades.

Jesse Marano The Last Of Us is a major AAA game, during psx they sayed that The Last Of Us Part 2 is very early in development. We are going to get gameplay trailer and many trailers in 2017, we wont going to get full release till 2018 mate.

You're right. The especially since Ellie was 14 in the year 2033, - so considering now they have confirmed it with the trailer along with the fact she will be 19 years old, the game should be released 2018 as this will be 2038

I felt like grounded, even though an extra difficulty seems like a minor update, really is the purest way to play tlou. After 20 years of looting, useful supplies would only be left in the spots nobody else thought to look. And as much as I think the ‘listen’ mechanic works really well, without it the tension was so much thicker. I found myself turning UP the tv when I was scared shitless surrounded by clickers.
But yeah, this part and the hotel basement were brutal. If you finished any fight with low health and no supplies, you basically had to play perfectly through whatever came next.

La interfaz es distinta, la vitalidad, los objetos de creacion y quitaron la animación de descargar las armas de los enemigos para recargar las tuyas y lo sustituyeron por cajas de municion y obviamente la adquisicion de la escopeta no es en esta parte del juego por eso no se la quitas así a ningún enemigo

Did anybody notice the mechanics that we didn't get once the game was released? Like sneak while running (3:34), automatically cover yourself behind a wall (4:34), and the dodge (4:45)?
Yes and a lot more. The AI in the final games is a joke and nothing like what was promised from ND.
You can cover yourself behind walls in the full game but its not as snappy
