  • In this video I assess the damage on a newer BR-600 I found the circlip for the wrist pin in the bottom of the engine pan. Piston was missing a chunk and the timing system was destroyed. Follow my Instagram! @chainsaw_matt

Seen lots of these. Stihl put a sleeve instead of a wrist pin bearing on the 600, 700 and 800. If the client uses crappy oil the wrist pin seizes then the piston breaks. The connecting rod isn’t heat treated either so you can’t put needle bearing in ahead of time. A new connecting rod comes with a new cam. Expensive. This needs a new short block.

Carefully wire wheel or sand the transferred metal on the Wrist Pin or new Wrist Pin. Next carefully hone the Rod Bushing until Wrist Pin slides in smooth with some play to allow lubrication. The newer redesigned 600 definitely don't have enough tolerance to allow lubrication. I hone any brand new replacement to prevent. Use Amsoil Saber 7:01 (2oz per gallon) or Echo Red Armor 50:01.

I have a strong feeling that they are using piston stops to torque down the fan at the factory and over torqueing, causing stress to pistons and wrist pins. The only piston/ wrist pin failures I've dealt with had insane torque on the fan nut. This is a BR600 issue I've dealt with on several occasions. I had to use 1/2" impacts to get fans loose on these failed engines.

@@wvgriffn Me too, but the factory uses thread in piston stops. I saved two new factory engines with bowed wrist pins to send back to Stihl. They just recently fixed the issue.

I just pulled apart a BR800C, less than a year old, with the same problem. Came in because it wouldn't turn over and the piston grenaded the same way, with all the debris jamming everything else up. Is this a Stihl-recognised issue?

Read my post. I've been through 100's of these 4-Mix crap

Anyone know if it's possible to get a new bearing for between the wrist pin and connecting rod?

HEY MATT HOW YOU DOING FIRST IVE BEEN TRYING TO GET IN TOUCH WITH CUSTOMER BUT I HAVE A BR600 THAT IF I TAKE OF THE SPARK PLUG YOU CAN SEE THE PISTON GO UP AND DOWN AS SOON I PUT IN THE SPARK PLUG I CANT EVEN PULL THE PULL CORD ANY IDEAS THANKS

I've got one that won't hold cylinder pressure. Seems to be leak out intake. Isn't it the exhaust most of the time? Ever seen intake leaking? Thanks

Yes i have seen the intake leak but most of the time its the exhaust it could be carbon build up between the valve and seat will the unit run at all?

@@chainsawmatt4849 Just barely run, dies with the smallest amount of throttle.

@@Steve_Just_Steve Have you adjusted the valves? sounds like it could be that the valves are too loose or possibly a fuel issue. These 4-mix engines feel a lot different when you turn the engine over to check the compression and it could be fine. How old is the unit?

@@chainsawmatt4849 The valves are adjusted. Do you mean a tight valve? How could a loose valve could result in loss of cylinder pressure during a leak down test? To be clear I can hear air escaping during leak down test when I listen at the carb. It has 125 psi compression. I'm sure it's pretty dang old, got it when my passed 6 years ago just never really used it. Who knows how long he had it... I've replaced about part on it trying to fix it, ign mod, carb, lines, ect. Finally tested internals, good compression, bottom end held air, but not the top end. Thx

@@Steve_Just_Steve sounds to me like theres something in between the valve and seat on the intake side.
