To help with any misunderstanding. In the beginning, we were the kidnapper guy, the one being abused by his mother, as mentioned by the moms diary. The scene with the hammer and the mom bursting into the room, the blood stains are from that since our character was placed in that room after being taken. I'm assuming the guy had issues with his mom leading up to him killing her and it's confirmed by the diary entry where she is saying she hopes he understands her anger towards him. Clearly he didn't understand lol but that's why he is so willing to help the little girl get love from her mother. He wanted to feel love from his own mother but she was just a really bad mother to him and it led to him killing her before she hurt him again. That was her body in the attic and her ghost that lunged at you. You also can see similar living conditions from not having a mother between the two homes. Let me know if I'm wrong anywhere but no, that wasn't the kids father or anything, Chilla was just answering the elephant in the room of why is he helping this random girl and risking jail.
Quick update: And notice his posture when their mom was treating him the same way his mom was leading to 'what happened next', for those who haven't finished it yet.

I get it! So the mister was abused as a child by his mother, as you read in the letter. That's who was in the attic, the lady he killed was his mother, which explains the blood all over the house. He was fond of children and tried to relive his childhood as a free man because of the way he grew up. He never meant any harm, not at the playground where he asked to play hide and seek, nor when he accepted the sister's offer to kidnap them. When the mother hit him at the end of the game, it caused him ptsd from when his own mother hit him, causing him to lash out and strike her. Obviously, the son was happy about this because he was finally free from his mother's abuse, explaining his smile at the end. As you said, the mister was never the enemy, the mother was.
yep. i don't get why people assumed the kid was evil just from him smiling lol. That's like calling everyone who's happy to be free from their abusive parents, evil. Sure, the music sounded spooky, but I believe that was simply to be more for shock factor that the timid kid was actually happy (kinda plot twist but not really since he had previously said he was fine without the mom).
I remember there being an anonymous person on RUclips who asked strangers what to do. The girl had a terrible, abusive mom/dad (can't remember), and she was free from her since she had been an adult and had her own family. But heard news that her mom was dying from an illness in the hospital. She couldn't decide on whether she should go see her or not. People were split on being a good kid regardless or not forgiving her. Previously she did already visit but her mom showed no signs of changing at all. So she wanted to see the opinions on whether she should forgive or visit one last time. In her case, she chose not to forgive and she was happy. That doesn't make her evil.
So basically history repeats itself

In Japanese schools they have students clean classrooms as a way to teach them responsibility. Some schools will also have students be in charge of serving lunch to other students.
The interesting thing about this game is that the mom leaving her kids to fend for themselves is an extreme take of how Japanese people don't take initiative to raise their kids but expect the kids to raise themselves.

To help with the story, the kidnapper was the one in the beginning who killed his mom. She was abusing him and he snapped and hit her with the hammer. It was her body that was in the attic. At the end when the mom pushed him he was triggered again and that’s why he killed her. I’m guessing the smile at the end was just showing the main character(you) was happy that his mom was dead.

berlin, the intro to the game was sarao's pov as a child. Sarao is the "kidnapper"/mister. His mom was abusive and he killed her (the lady from the attic). He helped you and sis to get your mom back bc of his own trauma with his mom. He still thinks like a child (wanting to make friends/play hide and seek).
