We might want to add that the “daily bread” is not simply food but really τον άρτον τον επιούσιον, (the bread, the super substantial; the super-substantial or essential bread. The word signifies that this bread is the unique substance above all things, the body of Christ specifically
Thank you. I had considered that possiblity of course, but had no idea about the Greek words. I may have to dig out my Greek/ English Bible and enjoy seeing the words for myself. Thank you
@@lindaphillips4646 Yes this is one of those few cases where the English translation just doesn’t compute, it should at least be essential bread or necessary or something like that. Not as if our faith hinges on stuff like this but it’s very good to know, the Our Father is much more meaningful knowing this.

Amen.. in a way i expect it is intended to mean both, is just rather subtle about it since Holy Communion was not instituted until the Last Supper and would not have begun until services after the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost .
I also interpret "daily bread" as spiritual bread, our daily bread of the spirit, strengthening our souls as bread strengthens the body, as Christ said that it is His Father that gives us the true bread from Heaven (John 6:32)
If you mean the prayer and focus then it's another prayer not just mumbles that you as insurance incase you die , say your prayer in desperation mean each word
This excellent information, for true celibacy’s man and woman. For people who need and aim to raise children and maintain a marrige is kind troubling advice, that must be taken with some care. Prayers must be practical, according to each individual situation. It's not in vain that a father, or mother, pray for material goods to provide for their childreen, even money if necessary. Spiritual gifts, like healing the sick or levitate while praying are beautiful and magical, but sometimes other things are necessary, like having a functional car. Sorry to say.
the Lords Prayers covers all necessities of life which is both material and spiritual. daily bread can also be applied to daily needs of living in this life. God does not nee to recite a whole sermon on this, since He knows that we need tbese things and as Christ said, seek ye first the Kingdom , He promises and all these things will be added onto thee.
even the "daily bread" is not material. "epiousios" has nothing to do with ordinary bread. In all of the Greek language, the word only appears in the Lord's prayer and no where else. it means the supersubstantial bread of life.

Dear brethren: I am very interested in the writings and works of Saint John Crysostom. Can you refer me a to modern English translations of his writings please? I cannot bear the ancient English translations. Thank you! Blessings in Christ, Frank
This might be a naive question, but if we are in great need physically and financially for the sake of others, is it unnecessary to ask God for His daily provision..?
Asking for success in your business endeavors is definitely fine. But always ask it if His will permits. Christ asked for the cup to pass, but if not, may the will of The Father be done.
No, these requests are fine. The author is dabbling in Manichaeism which believes that the material world is evil and the spiritual is good, this is a grave heresy.

As far as I know the word epiousion doesn’t exist elsewhere, it’s very unique for this context at least

Yes. Which refers to the Eucharist, since He is the living bread
1.23 is the pic real scenery? if yes, where?
When the daily sacrifice is removed… the tribulation will begin. (When exalting Jesus becomes illegal.)
