This long intermediate shaft which connects the Main Marine Engine of a ship to Propeller via a propeller shaft has 5 intermediate bearings for support. As it transmits the engine power to the propeller, it is also known as Transmission shaft of the ship.
The propeller of the ship is fitted at the aft and attached to a crankshaft coming from the main engine. This is done so that the rotating motion of the Main Engine can be converted into thrust to propel the ship. The propeller shaft or tail shaft is supported by a bearing arrangement which acts as an intermediate phase between the sea and the ship.
The engine in operation is a 12 cylinder RTflex electronic engine with a shaft generator incorporated in the shaft.
Good video....Are these bearings "antifriction bearings"?
Thanks for information Mr/mrs
Glad the information is helpful.
So how is the shaft sealed exiting the ships hull?
By suing stern tube - www.marineinsight.com/tech/understanding-stern-tube-arrangement-on-ships/
Your shaft is so big sir I like it
You mean the engine shaft 😀
What's the length of the shaft? Is that using a single long shaft or it's divided into many sections?
They are connected in pieces using flanges and bolts.
Just wondering how much weight this shaft have since it made from solid steel and soo long
Actually, they are in parts joined together.
