Yes here will always be fools who spend huge amounts of extra money for "luxury" packaging. Personally I care about the quality of the cannabis FAR more than the expensiveness of the packaging the cannabis came in.
Yes we do need to gt rid of the stoner stereotype but PLEASE lets not replace it with a fru fru hipster stereotype.

I agree. I think the High End cannabis product are seen more like fine wines, it seems to be a good idea thus far. I suspect that it appeals to a much larger group than doinks and dug outs. Like booze, you have Rock-Gut vodka, Tito's and then Grey Goose, all 3 categories do well in the market place, just to different buyers.

add to this a limited amount of retail licenses and extreme barriers to entry you end up with a situation where the shops can control the price. getting top dollar from the customers and only giving enough to the growers to grow commercial using pgrs and all the nasty other garbage. the current laws have cut the small growers who developed the original strains and provided the culture for the last 50 years off from the market

I agree for sure. Vaping in general (thc, nicotine, whatever) is becoming this huge dumb fashion statement. I smoked cigarettes for a LONG ASS TIME, and when vapes finally became reliable, i was absolutely stoked to get away from smelling like cigarettes all the time. I vape because i'm addicted to nicotine, and its the least harmful way to get that nicotine into my body....
But now, we have thousands of hipsters running around blowing HUGE FUCKING CLOUDS in everybody's faces - using vape juice with ZERO nicotine, just so they can perform the act of blowing out clouds. Now, because of all these hipster idiots blowing clouds everywhere, it makes it hard ALL OVER AGAIN for me to get my nicotine fix. When I pull my vape out, everybody just thinks 'oh heres another dumb kid blowing clouds' when in reality i'm just trying to get my nicotine and move on with my day.

On a side note, I WILL vape marijuana in dry plant form, but i've stopped using the wax/oil vapes for no other reason than tolerance. I get to do a LOT of my work from home, so its safe to say i smoke my weed on and off all day. HOWEVER, when I decide to switch over to using the thc oil/wax vapes, I end up using it JUST ABOUT as much, which makes my tolerance shoot through the roof. If i spend 1 entire day puffing on a THC wax pen, its impossible to get any feeling at all from regular weed plant matter for like 4 or 5 days until my tolerance goes out. If I use wax every single day like i do weed, i dont think theres anything thc related on this planet that can get me high at that point.

Can I make a plea for those who are serving time behind bars at this very moment for this very same thing. A weed tax that goes towards the freedom of those who are "non-violent" criminals doing time with violent criminals. We have to save these stoners and growers. It's not fair!

I completely agree that it’s not fair, but cannabis consumers paying extra to the government so that the government can free people they themselves wrongly imprisoned is also unfair. If anything, it is the government’s responsibility to bring light to the societal paradox of weed, and transition our potential budtenders out of prisons and into jobs, perhaps even as budtenders working for one of the companies mentioned in this video.

It's all good, but people should still be allowed to grow their own legally. There's nothing like smoking your own weed. Dispensary pot is often grown with PGRs, pesticides & other icky shit. Weed that's grown on a commercial scale will never be as good as plants grown with love on small farms. It's like Wal-Mart vs. Tom Ford.

I've been going to dispensaries in California since 2008. Quality has gone way down hill. All dispensaries are required to pre-package all their bud, which usually means it sits in individual containers for a long time, which causes trichomes to dry out much quicker. I only buy top shelf, and even then when you look at the trichomes with a microscope you can see that most heads are broken off. Broken trichomes results in keefy bud with degraded cannabinoids. Most of the THC is found at the point between the head and stem of the trichome, so when the head falls off the trichome dries out and you lose quality. Many growers are drying their bud too fast, sometimes only 2 to 3 weeks. Arjan Roskam from Greenhouse Seed Co, also known as the king of cannabis, has breed many famous strains and won many competitions. For competition, he cures his plants in cardboard boxes over a period of 4 to 5 months, which results in sticky bud with high terps and undamaged trichomes. Another problem I have noticed in California is that true Sativa strains have become harder and harder to find, growers are taking the easy quick rout and grow mostly indica strains. Many of the most well known dispensaries in my area only will have one or two sativas if any, and the quality is usually not that great, but they will still tell you its amazing euphoric and uplifting. Some of these places are charging $90 for an 1/8th. Even after a 2 week tolerance break the effects are minimal. I'm bummed, after 10 years as a consistent customer all over the SF Bay Area I am considering giving it up all together. Im not sure if it's because of recent changes in regulations that is causing the quality dropped, but one interesting thing is I found some old ground up bud that I had In a box for a year, took one tiny puff and I was ripped, almost felt like a psychedelic.Way stronger than any top shelf bud that I've tried over the past 6 months or so. Most people I talk to have also noticed the quality go down and prices go up. I cannot support these businesses anymore.

I do smoke indica since that's all people know how to grow around me. I personally think there's nothing special about Indica, sometimes I like Hybrids, but to me nothing beats a well grown Sativa, especially the ones where the high creeps up and gets stronger and stronger then fades away with no mental fog, or when I can't stop smiling even when i really try, or when I go out and think everybody knows I'm high, or when my eyes are burning red and I go in a liquor store to get eye drops and cant stop laughing when I get to the counter. When I hike to the top of a mountain I like a good sativa before i run back down. Snowboarding, biking, sports in general I enjoy more with sativa. Well grown sativa makes my mind think in new ways, more creative. Indica just relaxes me and slows my mind down, I don't see any fun in that. Most people don't know how to grow sativa. Sativa should not be light and fluffy, the buds should be filled out, sticky, and smelly with healthy trichomes. I know it effects everybody differently. Sativa allows me to be more free thinking and have fun being active, Indica makes me feel relaxed and blank minded. There are times for each.

Who cares, go and grow your own stuff if you wish. Not everyone has time, space or equipment to care for multiple plants, trimming, drying and curing the buds etc. If someone wants nice looks on their stuff, be it cannabis, alcohol, clothes or anything else, let them have it. The market will verify if it's needed, and if not - the business will fall. This ad actually made me consider opening similar business once legalization hits my country - considering the rest of the civilised world is slowly acknowledging marijuana for what it really is, this will happen sooner or later. And want to be a part of that.

So this low THC movement is a real drag to see, for us patients that fought so hard for the last 20 years with jail time, money and voting to watch it go this direction. If I could take my vote back on Colorado rec and have the state go back to the 2008 model I would in a heart beat. But if you arent a patient, enjoy your coors light of bud, id have to smoke a oz of that to get out of bed and function. And at 180 bucks thats just not going to happen.

Before you read this: I'd just like to say I'm from Australia and have no knowledge of the legislation behind the legality of cannabis, its cultivation, its sale and its consumption.
I think this video shows the best way to introduce cannabis to a society of mixed race, age and gender. Marketing pot in this way will remove a lot of the negative stigmas associated with the plant.
It can also create new jobs as there will inevitably be an increase in demand for plantations, factories, retail and what not.
It will definitely make the product safer, and provides easier access to your preferred strains.
Does it really matter whether you're into the 'cannabis culture' or not? If you enjoy cultivation there's now a safe legal way to do it. If you're into business, making a living selling these products opens pathways to meeting new people.
Regardless, I think in 20 years cannabis is going to be just as easy to access as alcohol. Private sellers like any product or service will always be shadowed by the monopolies.
Private sellers however will still be able to gain customers and there will probably be circumstances where niche communities chose a private seller over the big companies.
The way I see it and I'm sure many others do, its awesome that new people are testing the waters. I'm open to others opinions and would like to hear your thoughts.

@@BeeBopGaming It's all so new, it seems like there is a market for this, and probably will be for a long time. I'm a chef, and where I work we charge three times as much as the guy down the street, and there food is better, but we still fill the dining room. The marijuana culture has a lot of maturing to do, this stuff is, like what you said, pure business, and total shit. I would like to see more responsible breeding, so all these nice "land race" strains aren't gone forever. I love kush, but it doesn't have to bred into everything.

Exactly the same as every other product in America. $400 sunglasses do not help you see better, or protect your eyes better than $100 sunglasses, but they are way cooler. The $8 pint of coconut oil in the grocery isle is really good for your skin, just like the $25 half pint in the beauty isle. A box of Quaker Oats cost more than the bulk oats in a plastic bag. No matter how cool, hip, organic, peace love dope, we might claim to be, the people that buy stuff in stores like fancy packaging.

I am sooooooo god damn envious of those American brothers and sisters man, I live in the UK so I can't just walk to the dispensary and pick my strain or snag some edibles or grab me some moonrocks or dabs, I do it the old fashioned way.....grow it or buy it and of late it's been the latter. We get some superb weed here in the UK, a lot of good Haze, Lemon Haze is a regular. A lot of Star Dawg and Purple Star Dawg, Icecream Cake, GSC, Wedding Cake, those types of strains where I am from. I have smoked weed more than half my life, from 13 years old to 45 I've been a long time connoisseur and advocate for weed. Weed has many uses from cosmetics to food, but my personal favourite is to smoke it or eat it. Why shouldn't we enjoy the fruits of the earth? I hope that the UK follows suit one day, there's some sweet growers just waiting for it to happen.

These guys will be the Monsantos of the cannabis world. It is a new culture? - Slick packaging, high dollar ads, advertising videos, lots of mechanized processing, high prices, and the money goes to big businesses, rather than some small grower. Once the product lines are established, the farmers share will drop, just like food production. This is just pulling the cannabis money into the pocket of big business. Consumer in mind? A few plants in the back yard and smoking good stuff for free is progress. The pot culture shown here is just updated Reefer Madness.

Don't smoke it unless you know where it came from. It's an excellent photoremediation plant for corporate agriculture. It's takes up the heavy metals like cadmium and lead and is then recycled for human use. So are other herbs and teas.

As marijuana becomes more readily available in all of California's counties, marijuana will become more and more and more commoditized. Of course, there will always be niche markets within the overall market (ex: 30% THC, high CBD content, and form whether smokeables, candy, teas), more of the cannabis consuming population will start focusing more on getting value with their purchase. That's when the high end packaging approach to the market will be nearly dead.
