@@MrWhatauchever That is Fair, but the new mini Cooper looks like a mini and also the previous Countrymen retained heritage mini design language, aside from its size, for the most part. It looked like a big Mini Cooper. This has hints but overall is trying to be something different. Which is cool, I guess, just doesn’t look decidedly Mini as a brand to my eye 🙂
I guess it’s the same as with a Porsche Cayenne which also doesn’t look like a 911. You have your core model and then you try to be innovative and build other variants for different purposes around it.
7:13 I had this in my E46 BMW. Having the throttle attached at the bottom is really comfortable and offers stability; you can brace yourself into the seat by pushing with your heels.
Weird outside, is not a Mini anymore, the interior is very nice, the materials and colors choise combination is fantanstic, is good to see something different than black or beige.
Overall I like it. The rear and the interior is an improvement although the front does indeed look Chinese. My problem with it is that it's not really mini is it, it's massive.
The brand is MINI and the brand has always had larger vehicles (Morris Mini Traveller- 1967). Should MINI remain stuck in the late 50s-60s and not evolve to what the market demands? Porsche, Rolls Royce, and Mercedes have evolved their brands to meet customer wants, why shouldn't MINI?
I must admit that I'm quite disappointed with the latest version of the Mini Countryman. It no longer looks like the iconic car that many of us know and love, but rather just another generic SUV. I think that there were a few stylistic elements that should have been kept, such as the roundness of the lights, the scale of the features, and the robustness of the fittings. It's a shame that the designers didn't seem to take these important factors into consideration when creating the new model.
I totally respect your point of view, but I see from the comments that MINI is one of the rare car brands that is a victim of this theory: people keep in mind the old iconic design and want this design to stay in time. How do you want a brand to evolve and modernize itself if we keep criticizing their attempts? How will it look like a new MINI if you keep 80% of an old MINI? Don't you think that a groundbreakinh design like this one will pave the way to a reinvention of the brand. For me, I love the design very much! Thank you for reading
@@deepulse9752 When a car company decides to reinvent an old iconic car they have the challenge to ensure the original brand's continuity while maintaining its relevance to the current culture and needs. This is a common issue not just in car design, but in all areas of design, including architecture and product design. The point is not to keep 80% of a design but to understand the essence and to ensure there is a form that continues a visual connection to the original "icon". The new simplicity is a successful reinterpretation but in my opinion, they have missed some of the robustness and rounded lines which are distinct to the "Mini" line. For instance; the faceted lights are too great a variation from it and simply keeping a curvilinear design would have maintained this connection. At least it's creating a conversation!
The price point of this car is surely gonna be a tough sell compared to the rest of the market. Considering we are now buying a “Not at all what we are used to” mini and the ambience of the brand is almost entirely gone. The rest of the feature is almost as standard as it gets. Side note: anyone else think that gear/drive selecter is a bit too far forward and not at all where it should be?
@@veritynesbitt8599 Thank you for your insightful answer and I get your point totally. They did exactly that: the 3 door stayed true to its original design, they took fantasies with the Countryman, not the 3 doors!!!
So they have used many of the interior elements of the new 2023 X1, but with a bad design, I don’t like that cloth on the dashboard or that circular screen. I stick to my new X1 in blue bay lagoon with the M package, impressive. I’ve had 2 Countryman in the past, a 2020 and a 2023 which I both loved, this new one is a NO.
A great detailed short review. If we take this as a BMW, it is the BMW SUV I would want to drive and the pricing is competitive with the alternatives I would consider. I bought an SUV (Mazda CX60) earlier this year and so am not in the market for this yet. At this stage of electrification I want a PHEV capability, but when I come to replace in say three years’ time this is probably what I would go for knowing just what I do today. This should be a winner.

We run a 2020 Countryman Hybrid, it’s well built, the (older gen yes) BMW based MMI is easy to use and slick, has lots of buttons and switches. And in 3 years hasn’t missed a beat. Great review as usual….
Does it have an USB *input* for media playback from an external drive? The current models do. I hope they kept this instead of forcing us to rely on crappy bluetooth.
Great preview and ahead of the competition again. I love the smoky green but that’s it for the design. BMW need to revive the Maxi brand as this is not a Mini. The move to fewer buttons like heating is a big negative step, even VAG are turning the tide after customer pressure. Disappointing that BMW has moved production of this and the Mini EV from Oxford. Won’t appeal as much to us in the UK, one of its biggest markets. We will wait for the new Fisker Pear as our second car.
I have last mini countryman SE, 2021, I prefer mine. I just don’t like the only display in he middle… I guess it could distract driver attention. It’s too big and only 450km autonomy. No sense for long distance.
I guess this countryman will be competing against the Volvo EX30 in the premium compact suv segment. My money is definitely going to the Swedes from China purely based on design.
i gerally prefer offroaders over suvs and crossovers, however, i always liked audi suvs and the countryman, i loved the countryman. It was a cool, rally looking, unique crossover that was good to drive and look the part and it looked even cooler with x rate mods available. Sure there a few more good looking crossovers like the formentor but nothings looks as cool in my eyes(and many car enthusiasts i ve spoken with), but important, timeless. Doesnt matter what countryman you see, they all look good throughtout the years and the same goes for any mini model. and what does mini/bmw do about that? They take that timeless, design and they fuck it right up. Thank you modern bmw designers, for fucking up every new model that comes from the brand. its still unique at least, but good looks and timelessness are out of the window.
I don't see what you could find attractive about a Audi crossover. Honestly I never found any of the German crossover from any brand aside from a few like the X5 or Macan attractive. Just so bland and passionless.
@@loukasantoniou8054 It's more like... what do you find remotely interesting about a Audi crossover at all. Or any Audi at all. But that is a loaded reply so I understand if you don't reply lol
@@baronvonjo1929 i like the quattro awd, fit and finisg, quality, and the diesel engines. i do like their rs products and the 2.5 5cylinder. And i do like their "boring styling". Much prefer it to the mercs flashy designs and bmws ugly designs of the current gen. Previous gen bmw was solid though. Expressions like "they are boring or frive boring" are beyond me, it makes me want to ask, what car do you drive? Audis of the old specially are charming. They bring the rally vibe due to their heritage. And they look pretty cool lifted. I also love porsche, i guess im boring af. i could get in more detail, but its beyong the point. i guess you could say, i like sporty cars like the m2 the m4 the 911 the mx5 etc. I also like suvs that can off road while being luxurious and fun, like the land cruiser the bronco the defender and the cayenne gen 1 and 2. i ve found that audi crossovers like the sq8 and sq8 and rsq8 are pretty fun to drive relativelly speaking. And by that i mean they are fast and they handle well, while at the same time are comfortable and practical and they look good. And with a decent AT tyre, they can go places you wouldnt dare to put them. They aare not your fisrt choise for any of those things yet, they manage ok while being understated. They dont exceed in anything but they do the job. And i like that.
@loukasantoniou8054 I find the copy and paste styling terrible. But all German cars do that. You see one Audi, Mercedes, Volkswagen, or BMW you quite frankly have seen them all. They are just so passionless and cheap. And other brands are trying to copy it. But they were the first. For Audi their deisgn langauge and interiors are just so angular and rigid. They aren't ugly, but they aren't beautiful either or unique.
I like the new look. I would prefer they have kept the gauge cluster, at least as an option for whomever chooses to have one. It is a move away from its retro style I believe. Hardcore mini fans will hate it I think, but in general it might sell well. Durability of the recycled materials is a question, especially the fabric covering the dashboard. Rear lights could have been a bit more retro in my opinion, but I guess that would beat the overall shift to a new era as it seems.
When you wear sun glasses with anti-reflex then the HUD is almost entirely not visible. Can you kindly ask Mini or other producers what do they think on that topic? Obvously a car with no speedometer and HUD only should mean subglasses with no anti-reflex... Not getting pretentious, just anti-reflex is quite important to some drivers, esp. with eyes that need better protection. Thanks!
It looks like the old mini had a baby with the new Defender. I am not convinced by styling. I wish car makers would go back to smaller wheels, both for comfort and range.
I like how mini is adapting to the changes that have come upon the automotive industry. Chinese are taking over this industry and are quickly becoming better in it so if you can't beat them just join them and i aplaud Mini for that adaptivity. Like it or not Chinese have taken over in this industry and as soon as we start going fully electric there wont be much of a difference anymore in auto industry since we liked Germans for their technological advancement in creating better performance internal combustion engines. If the Germans wants to stay ahead as always they better copy what the Chinese are producing. By the way great stuff Thomas as always.
Loved the look of the first gen; the current one is a mess from an exterior appearance perspective but still has some appeal -- but this one is just hideous. On the upside I can cross it off my list of vehicles I'm interested in buying.
Great content as usual but as an F60 Countryman owner who sat in the new one, i would argue that the interior material build quality has dropped dramatically from the previous generation. The screen and audio have improved but that's it. Door handles and switches have gone from metal to cheap plastic. Door closing feel has lost substance, door handle feedback has gotten cheaper. The previous dash and door plastics were of high quality and feel but then got replaced with the odd fabric which feels cheaper to me personally. The rear has a much higher and difficult to access trunk entry (shared platform problem). The front end has unsightly hood seams and a stiff/awkward face along with the bad radar placement in the grill. Overall it just feels like alot of smoke and mirrors disguising a lower quality build, taking the Countryman from a well built mature vehicle with classic design cues to a giant toy aimed at youngsters. In a way it is nice but the MINI fan inside me is crying.
Me gusta el diseño pero hay detalles que no me encantan mucho como esa moldura en el poste C o el interior en un solo color se ve pesado el salpicadero, le debieron meter alguna textura o una tela en el area de arriba del salpicadero
No frunk is a HUGE FAIL and deal breaker. It's just extremely lazy and cheap, could be added so easily. Even if you take a regular combustion engine car and just take the engine out you could easily and cheaply put a plastic box in its space. They are not even willing to do that. There are no excuses for that, especially not in SUV with their big hoods / big fronts. It's ridiculous.
Currently drive a Countryman and love it.Was definitely going to replace it with a new countryman but this new model is a step too far.As others have said,it's just not a Mini anymore.😢
This is just a very expensive Ora Ligtning Cat from Great Wall Motors, isn't it? BMW was responsible only for the exterior and interior design. The batteries, software, motors, and suspension are all from Great Wall's all-electric ME platform.
High build quality? Come on now! Interior looks rubbish. More like a Renault or something. Where's the traditional Mini ambiance? It's just an appliance now. Like Bosch.
In my opinion the new Countryman 2024 is awesome. The design is much better than the previous one. It keeps the uniqueness of Mini but also has characteristics of the modern era of the cars. The perfect balance. To be specific the front part of the car and the interior have been improved massively. Congratulations to the designers.
As a big MINI lover and driver of several MINI’s over the years. I had a 2004 hatch, a 2015 Countryman and still drive 2018 Countryman. To be really honest…..they lost me a bit on the overall design. I always liked the fresh and playfull design but this is not really playfull anymore. With this design they really went overboard for me for in my opinion it looks way too minimalistic inside and outside. Also the fact that everything needs to be adjusted on the round screen is a real gamebreaker for me. I like buttons and knobs that you can easily find and feel blindfolded so no eyes off the road to handle these things. Now you need to get your eyes off the road to adjust things, it’s just not safe at all. Too many brands go the Tesla way of minimalistic designs and controls. It doesn’t look like a car anymore. Nope, not gonna buy one anymore if they keep on going this way. Currently I bought a Kia ev6 now and it will be delivered somewhere in April. Sorry MINI, you lost me. Even my dealer was surprised that I left them, he said “you were the last person I expected to leave MINI behind”.
4:26, and by what logic are we gonna use that opening door handle easy? If we're aliens and we can twist our hand wrist by 180 degrees without issues?!
Not sure what everyone here's complaining about, I think it looks really good both outside and inside. Just wish it had a standard speedometer in front of the driver

i could get in more detail, but its beyong the point. i guess you could say, i like sporty cars like the m2 the m4 the 911 the mx5 etc.
I'm wondering if it will still be able to use carplay..
A enjoyable Video Review 😊
When you wear sun glasses with anti-reflex then the HUD is almost entirely not visible. Can you kindly ask Mini or other producers what do they think on that topic? Obvously a car with no speedometer and HUD only should mean subglasses with no anti-reflex... Not getting pretentious, just anti-reflex is quite important to some drivers, esp. with eyes that need better protection. Thanks!
I actually quite like this. It looks modern and smart, apart from the current BMW lineup which looks hideous.
I would never buy an EV that is not built up from the ground as an EV. You will always get a half assed car.
GM & Ford built an EV from the ground up and it's still a half assed car. How do you explain that?
@@bigmacdaddy1234 GM and Ford.
Does the middle of rear seat has tunnel?
How about the extra tyres?
Very nice, but probably very expensive. 😢
It looks like the old mini had a baby with the new Defender. I am not convinced by styling. I wish car makers would go back to smaller wheels, both for comfort and range.
Those wheels look nearly identical to the 20” on the Volvo (X)C40 Recharge
7:07 these have been the same pedals Mini has been using across their whole lineup for nearly 2 decades now, lol
Best way I can describe it would be gaudy as hell. ☹
It looks nice, but it's absolutely crazy when you think that this car is bigger in all dimensions than a new Seat Ibiza (!)
if dashboard material is fabric hard to clean when accidently pour drinks over it
Nice to see that the car has kept its unique style. From usability perspective, it would really benefit from proper HUD.
The Mini brand should be retired, its like a 2 Ton Electric "Lotus" they just aren't.
Thanks again Thomas!
This is a really stunning design!
Thanks for the feedback!
Props to BMW for keeping the brand alive
Funky and premium, superb !
Disappointed refresh… not a mini anymore and it is like a X1 in a bad way
Exterior 1design hits all the marks...interior mixed 😢...can we have different wheels for Australia
Which Coopers come in convertible?
This will: ruclips.net/video/Alt4bFP98l4/видео.htmlsi=_fnc-N7tP906VIYw
Me gusta el diseño pero hay detalles que no me encantan mucho como esa moldura en el poste C o el interior en un solo color se ve pesado el salpicadero, le debieron meter alguna textura o una tela en el area de arriba del salpicadero
2025 model, no? (not referring to release year)
Put ORA logo on it, it fit this car perfectly 😢😢
No frunk is a HUGE FAIL and deal breaker. It's just extremely lazy and cheap, could be added so easily. Even if you take a regular combustion engine car and just take the engine out you could easily and cheaply put a plastic box in its space. They are not even willing to do that. There are no excuses for that, especially not in SUV with their big hoods / big fronts. It's ridiculous.
Currently drive a Countryman and love it.Was definitely going to replace it with a new countryman but this new model is a step too far.As others have said,it's just not a Mini anymore.😢
If i can fully customize it for 40k then its good like the way I want in the 2024 Ice one
This guy has an interesting delivery
most welcome here
44keur + extras mesma around 50-55keur for a decent version... that is really a bit too much... for a family better the tmy
Could you make a video about how new EVs only compensate their CO2 footprints upwards of 100k KM?
Countryman seems to be moving towards utilitarian design route, I hope to see sportier pack option.
I've loved BMW minis and had 9 since 2003 but that is awful going to look after the two old ones I currently have.... Oh mini what have you done 😭
Hi Thomas, very well detailed review. BMW has done a great job on this car and keeping the Mini Brand as unique as possible.
Thanks 🙏
I like it. A lot of people won’t. But it will grow on them like always
Das koel ja 👌👊👍
Good review once again 🙂
This is just a very expensive Ora Ligtning Cat from Great Wall Motors, isn't it? BMW was responsible only for the exterior and interior design. The batteries, software, motors, and suspension are all from Great Wall's all-electric ME platform.
That is funny because I would rather buy that, as the Ora Cat looks great, and this looks like a Chinese car.
Absolutely love the interior!
when r u gonna test drive the updated XC 40?
In a couple of weeks!
Any idea if the JCW steering wheel is also vegan?
They told me all versions would be, but I m gonna test the JCW early next year and I ll re-ask for the new version
@@autogefuehl Thank you for the update!
I wonder how Android Auto/Apple Car Play is gonna appear in a round display 🤔
Well done Mini and thanks for the Vegan interior.
Why does it look like a Defender?
Oh ! Super by Mini 🇬🇧 😊
But it isn't "Mini"
This thing is the antithesis of the whole premise of the brand.
Basically it is a big fat mediocre SUV
Cars shouldn’t get even bigger than they already are 😫
This looks very similar to the Suzuku Swift!
