- Mr H continues the quest for who makes the best pies in the North West of England as he visits the legendary Whittles pie shop on Tunstall Lane in Pemberton, Wigan which has recently reopened again after a 14 year absence to try one of their famed meat & potato pies.
Fantastic Mr H, thank you. As a proud brummie living in Lincolnshire I gotta say as much as I like my local grub, nowhere does pies like those in Lancashire. Keep up the good work Mr H, you certainly chomped through that meat & Taya pie with gusto.

Hi Nick, I really enjoyed the pie despte the seasoning and would definitely/will visit again.
I've been told since making this video that Whittles were previously charging £1.25 a pie which was amazing value!
I was also told that on the day that Whittles reopened people were queuing down the road all morning to get their hands on one of their pies despite the price increase and hopefully the business will continue to be a success for Hannah and Grace moving forward.
Regarding former pits I'm hoping to to visit the site and the area around the former Welch Whittle Colliery at Charnock Richard soon to see what remains as there's an interesting/forgotten story about this particular former colliery site.
hiya roy , yes the was very long queue outside on the opening day , it was quite something to see, everyone loves a whittles in pem , have you read about the pemberton colliery disaster , the norley pit disaster and the story of ludovic berry and dolly , few people also know of the brock mill bomb , much still to be @@MrHsHotPot revisited thanks roy , keep them coming
I'm not a fan of actual kebabs but I'll recommend their Kebab pies too. Thanks for the full story on Whittles Mr H, we only had half an idea beforehand.
You have to visit Ye Olde Pastie Shoppe in Bolton they make a great range of stuff. Taylor Farm Shop in Lathom also excellent. pimbletts pies are good used to be a shop in Rainford, not sure where you find them these days.

Give anything for a nice hot traditional Wigan pie, wedged between a buttered barm cake with a touch of brown sauce. That one looked good. I'm a Wiganer, now living in the US. It's currently minus 5 here in Minnesota (that's Fahrenheit, not Celsius).

Not wishing to put my two penneth in but feel the need, I don’t think it’s the salt or over salted as that should get your taste buds going but I think it’s being overly peppered as well, a bit over seasoned as they say. Making me want a nice pie myself now all this talk of food 😩😋

Great info Mr H....I was wondering why Galloways had shut down there, you need a small mortgage for a few pies in Gallows now ,But hey ho Wages have kept up a pace"LOl" and the Goverment pretends its everyone elses fault but theres.....I will be trying them out nxt week

Hi Ste, I don't remember this personally but have heard vague details of the story.
The version I've heard is that a woman who lived close to Westwood Cemetery had a monkey/chimpanzee named 'Chico' as a pet and when it died she buried it beneath a tree close to where the toilet blocks used to be.
Other accounts claim that the monkey/chimpanzee was originally from a travelling circus and that it also had it's own headstone.
Do you know anymore details of the story or remember whereabouts in the cemetery the grave supposedly was as there's not a lot out there on this one?
@@MrHsHotPot yeah pal it did have a headstone but i dont remember it saying owt on it it was under a tree where you sed. The tail i herd was she let the monkey climb the tree for some exersise so thats why she put it under the tree WHY NOT it was its favoret spot . Dont think the tree is there not been int cemi furra while . THANKYOU for replying to my message pal 😎
@@madmeddler99 I have a vague memory of them cutting down a huge tree in that area as the roots had grown under what had been the foundation slab of the toilet blocks and was slowly lifting it.
This was probably the tree, amazing she got away with it really especially as it was common knowledge at the time.
Do you remember the concrete horse trough under the trees at the side of the road made from 'Kinkers' at end of the Hollows near Westwood Lodge?
As kids we called this the 'Devil's Grave' it was quite disappointing when I eventually found out what it actually was.
@@MrHsHotPot no pal i dont remember the horse dont know why coz i spent a lot of time overt hollows and the swing at side of ferkis house it was us that put the swing there in the 1st place i come out of james st so it was a short jurney undert tunnel overt cornies tut hollows and swing wer was this horse was it down near mick keyhose house just ut botton ut hill ont cemy side ? 😎
