Isn't there like a backstory for why Venti has braids? It's cutscene you get after completing the imaginary friend quest with Stanley.. at the hands of barbatos there he says a story about before he had taken that form. And from what I've gathered it was pretty important.
Indeed there is! To summarize it extremely, Venti used to be a wind spirit (which you can see floating around in the end cinematic of the imaginary friend quest). In that form, he met a boy, leaving in old Monstadt (now Stormterror's lair) with who he became friend. Old Monstadt was a city ruled by a tyranical god who trapped the city in endless winds. No one could go out or in, and the birds couldn't fly. The boy's dream was to see birds flying, so he took his lyre (yes that's how Venti began music) and started a revolution to overthrow the tirant. And if in the end, the tyrant was taken down, Venti's friend (which everyone in the fandom call "the nameless bard") died from the arrows planted in his chest: he will never see the freedom he longed for. That's when Venti became the Anemo archon (probably due to the death of the tyranical god, but it's a theroy): he took a human form, and more specifically, to honor his friend, took his friend's form. This story explains both Venti's appearance and goal as an archon: he is the god of freedom, and do not wish to rule over Monstadt. It might also explains his connection to all living creatures, since he used to be a spirit. Also that's why he recognises himself in Stanley: both couldn't let go of an old friend and decided to make them live through themselves! (sorry it's actually a long answer XD)
Yeah, cutting people's hair against their will is abuse and a punishable criminal offense (falls under assault, I believe), and for good reason. And that it's Venti of all people makes it so much worse than it already would be for the average person, as it's not only assaulting _him_ in a potentially permanent way, but also assualting his best friend('s memory). So even though this comment is three years old, thank you. I was getting worried since the comic is so awful and most comments celebrate it, and my faith in humanity is fragile enough as it is.
