Cha and Gabe! I love it when you do a re-watch! This song gives me chills! I was vibing with ya'll and getting caught up in the emotion of the song. I'm always finding special things about Morissette's voice. The way she uses *extreme* vocal compression in this song reminds me of those great Rock & Roll vocalists, but adapted into a pop/contemporary setting of course, and very effectively used for this performance. She's doing different levels of compression, of course, to match the energy of the emotion she wants to convey, but there are parts where she is using extreme levels of compression, and I'm so feeling it! She is leaning hard and compressing that voice thru her vocal pipes to produce that grimy, edgy, distorted sound, and usually, singers would lose a lot of tonal quality by doing this, but not so much with Mori. The tone of her voice always sounds rounded and never piercing to the ears, if you can notice. I try to listen to many, many great voices, and Morissette is that rare one with that special, rounded tone. The tone remains rounded, especially in the upper range, when most singers would start to sound whiny and shrieky. Her 5th octave belts are impressively rounded. God bless this girl's voice and I hope she keeps singing and making original music for decades to come.
Yes, it was amazing ❤😊glad you enjoyed vibing. This version just hits so different that the studio. She is adding so many pop inflections and influences into it, using her heart to melt us away with her warming tone. ❤ her octave range is something to behold, and the fact she has access to it when she wants is stunning 🤩 such a star we are blessed to see grow more and more, and allow us to fall more deeply in love with her god given talents ❤😊
