Decades ago I had maybe 10 friends that were black and only 3 of them were close friends. One had his entire tax return taken. Pissed, called to find out why. His parents took out student loans in his name and never let him know. Never paid the loans so they took his return. The other was just about to enter her master's program ( scholarships and she paid the rest herself)went to buy a car. Her mom had taken out a loan in her name without her knowing and couldn't get a car for herself.
Yes! I was left with 2 kids to raise lone and with no monetary help too. I worked a full time and part time job...didnt hurt my kids' credit!! WTF was this woman thinking?

What the mother did is called identity theft. This is surprisingly common. By reporting it to the police, the daughter can have all the debt from those cards classified as fraud and removed from her credit history. Of course, the mother will be prosecuted if her daughter follows through.
That's not the first time, the "I needed to raise you/ your brother" excuse went out of the window a long, long time ago since she's working full time, her daughter is wrking 2 jobs and she STILL needs to use her daughter's name to get more money. Hell, no.

My Mother and I had lived together a few years after we left my Dad when I was young because he became abusive. My Mother had lost her job and was about to let her new car she just bought at Christmas go back. I told her no, she needed it etc., I'd pay for it so I paid for it, insurance etc., the next 3 years until she remarried and moved in with her husband. Later, I didn't tell her initially but I needed her help when I lost my job & couldn't afford my car note, plus mortgage and other bills so I had already let my car go back to the Creditor. She helped me secure a used car, I didn't want another new one. Eventually her husband passed and I moved her in with me and spent the last 4 years of her life taking care of all of her needs/health conditions, the stress of it all which nearly took me out of this world and then I lost her 2 months after I suffered a medical emergency.... I still thank Father God for my beloved Family, especially my Mother and the privilege of being there for her when she needed me most. I do not understand why some people can't seem to SHOW LOVE FOR & try not to create more problems between themselves and the people they're _supposed_ to be closest to....

My Mother stole my identity when I was underage. When I turned 18, my credit was destroyed. I didn't press charges, several years later she did the same to my younger Brother. I paid everytjkng to repair his credit and he pressed charges. We're all no contadct with her now, she alone, still single and still scamming in her 60s.

I knew someone in the past who's mom tapped into his social security as a kid and he was fighting to get like 20K+ waived in fees that they were later coming after him for. My mom ran my grandma's credit into the ground, resulting in her being blacklisted because she just never made payments. She almost did the same to me when I got my first job, but I moved out and paid off the debt before that could happen. It's such a scummy thing to do to your 'family'.

I am white, my mom did this to me. It’s not just a “black thing”. When I turned 18, I was kicked out of the house, with horrible credit. I couldn’t buy my own car or rent myself because “my debts” alone for utilities were over $1k. CPS did nothing and the police did nothing because my “total debt was not 50k” per the police. So in order for me to live my adult life, I had to repay those debts off. Even when I called the places “I owed” to tell them what happened, it was “my debt”.
In sorry for your experience. I will be praying for you. You are a stronger man than most for being able to handle and press thru that situation.

There is no way she’d have been able to do it over here, they’d want your DNA before the started dishing out the cash.
I feel so so sorry for that young lady. Her Mother is a disgrace and her behaviour unacceptable and she (the mother) should be held accountable.

I was a single mother of two and it never ever crossed my mind to steal from them and we struggled.
My mom did that to me. I found out when I was trying to buy my first home, that required perfect credit. A $58 Swiss Colony bill nearly prevented me from approval. I was 11 when she did it. Took me a year to get it off my credit report.
I grew up with a kid whose dad used the kid’s credit, except the dad payed the bills, so the kid had INCREDIBLE credit as a young adult 😂
I want to do the same for my daughter but the card I used to build mine up only uses money you actually have so it's only good points going to it. Can't buy anything on "credit" if you don't already have the money
We did that for our kids too, but we put them on as a user. Their credit is gold.
My parents did it for me, I got my first mortgage just before my 19th birthday.
