Big gas guzzling SUV's seem like the irresponsible choice in today's world of emissions, fuel economy, and electrification. However, these types of truck based SUV's that can carry 8 people and tow heavy loads are still a very important part of the American segment and buyers can't get enough for them. For 2021, the #ToyotaLandCruiser and #NissanArmada are two of the oldest offering from Japan but both the #Armada got a significant refresh this year, while the #LandCruiser is due for a complete redesign soon.

Happy Friday guys! We’re expecting lots of “YoU sHoULd HaVe UsEd A sEqUoIa” comments but the Land Cruiser is just what we happen to have at the same time as the short 72 hour loan period as the Armada. We also just recently tested the 2020 Sequoia earlier this year and the result would have been the same for us. Until Toyota gives us a new version of either of these, we feel it’s best to get a used one as opposed to spending the big bucks on a new one. Which would you choose?
How is a Sequoia comparable to a Land Cruiser? Makes no sense at all. There is no comparison at all. People in the US are so stupid to think a Sequoi is comparable.
@@Flowerpowers mate you haven't been to pakistan! The land cruiser works everywhere, including africa
@@Flowerpowers oh nice dude! Thats awesome! So how you reckon the land cruiser drives in Southern Africa? What do you guys drive out there besides the cruiser?
Remember, full sunroof panels reduce the structural rigidity of any vehicle ... well if you value safety at all.

@@Sevan59 I agree, and i hate EV, not only too simple, is because they are making toxic components globally, as well use the least efficient energy product to move the car, is destroying the planet, and like professor told me, EV is not for saving the earth..., they are here is for the money and you know what, who is supporting them???
Not just thirsty but you'd need 1 year to import and register one of those cars in Gemany because of their bad emission level :d
They might be reliable but I'm not gonna pay more than ~71.000€ for the vehicle itself, importing, registration and taxes.
Also this of corse is not as reliable but if I'd have a crash I'd rather sit in a Mercedes GLS or an Audi Q7 because the Nissan Armada was designed in 2016 and the Land Cruiser in fking 2008 this thing is old! I don't know how many airbags it has etc.
Love them Both, reliability is a 10 each one, will easily go 300,000 miles and more.
both will go 300,000 miles and more
They may not be efficient, but I'd love to have one based off of pure longevity, and resale value. The Armada, resale not so much, but it's a tremendous value for a 4WD vehicle.
The Armada/Patrol in Australia has better clearance due to be independent suspension so no diff hanging down. Also off road the Nissan will surprise you off road.
I have a 2019 LX570, Lexus branded land cruiser, and a 2020 Armada plat. and im amazed how similar they are. Especially since the LX was $108k and the Armada was about $60k. And yes, i get that the Toyota will last longer, but i usually dont drive cars much past 100k so probably not a decision factor for me.
These two cars are of local heritage here in the Middle East 🤣😄

That Land Cruiser is the the baddest bitch!!! Hands down. It's a life time vehicle, that Armada is a throwaway.
That overpriced Toyota lol.
Bradley's Car Reviews it’s priced that way because it’s over built that is a 300k mile vehicle
@@natetrout1 who cares. Reliability doesn’t do such a price justice. It has to gave a lot of tech and comfort;
Bradley's Car Reviews apples and oranges. You don’t need a leather dashboard to have a billet proof over landing off-roader. One vehicle is for moving kids, one is for taking off-road.
Off-road, you can get a Range Rover for the same money with way more tech, and who keeps cars for such a long period of time? Overpriced, smh
This refreshed Armada still looks better than the Land Cruiser & Sequoia combined in my opinion! 💯💯💯
Most definitely, I'd still take the Land Cruiser any day of the week
I prefer the Armada, it looks better and offers more.
Our 2008 LC does not get many washes. Sits outside, and we dont treat it like a luxury car and it does exactly what we wanted to do. Takes us anywhere and never breaks down. Brakes are soft, body roll yes.. but its comfortable and feels like a tank.
It’s the Nissan Armada for me
What is really frustrating about watching automotive journalists review Toyota/Lexus is the fact that they think a high price tag only denotes high technology. Most high priced technology actually devalues the car in the long run. Instead of buying a new Land Rover or Jaguar or Benz or BMW every five years at 80k a pop versus buying a Land Cruiser and owning it for maybe 30-40 years is overall the BEST VALUE - its almost as if once an automotive journalist gets behind the wheel of a Toyota or Lexus their brain automatically goes on the fritz because they can't comprehend what value, reliability and build quality ACTUALLY means anymore - and I can form an opinion on the matter because I own a Lexus GX460 :)
some people buys gizmo only......they don't understand value, reliability and build quality and then end up waiting at the service shop for repairs.
I think its a complete shame and dad to call this a land cruiser a 2021. That thing is a 2014 SUV thats marketed and priced as a 2021 SUV. You can basically pick up one used for half the price of this new and its the exact same thing as the new one
Still way better than the Armada
Engine light
you really have no business opining on a Land Cruiser lol
Just got a 2023 armada exact model and color. Lease for 24 months. Couldn't be happier
The Amanda is without question the best I've owned, including towing.
I like that you keep mentioning the name of the vehicle that you are talking about. It helps when I'm listening to (and not watching) RUclips videos while driving. Thanks!
Nissan has definitely stepped up for this upcoming decade, it’s an unbelievable turn around. But if they refresh the Q50 too, the company could really bounce back
AGREED! That would sell like crazy (as long as they dont put in a CVT) The new 2021 QX60 is supposed to ditch the CVT
I doubt Nissan will come back they died
@@tundrav8georgia NO. Nissan Next will save Nissan and will make it shine in the automotive world! :)

The title of this video though?! HILARIOUS!! 😆🤣
So to clear up confusion, the armada competes with the sequoia, it doesnt have any of the off road stuff the patrol is known for.
What features is it missing? Because we have been looking for one for offroading
@@randalllawkin Lockers!
@@randalllawkin The Patrol also has different suspension that gives it a bit more travel. Still I think that if used in the appropriate situations the Armada can do a pretty good job offroading. Obviously it's no rock crawler, but It'll definitely get you places a minivan can't.
nah man its an patrol it can go offroad
@@thuderclese nah i saw ppl rock crawling with it no problem
Only some ppl will get how funny this title is ... my fav car channel
I would say that the difference between the 8 speed on the Toyota and the 7 speed on the Nissan, is that the 7 speed shifts a lot quicker and probably makes the car a little quicker and a little quicker
Here in Australia, Toyota outsells Nissan 20 to 1. Toyota is and has been the top-selling manufacturer in Australia for years. purely for their reliability and resale value.
Land cruiser all the way. While the interior doesnt look like a $90k car, I trust that interior to look pretty much the same with minimal wear after 90k miles
more like after 150,000 miles.
Armada all the way. That 5.6 is pretty reliable too.
Just like the 5.7 in the toyota
The Toyota will outlast the Armada all day long. Resale value will tank on the Nissan
@@jdmstib4 I mean I never said the Toyota wouldn’t but that’s still not to say the 5.6 won’t last long lol. And yeah resale value ain’t the best for nissans not a new fact. Still tho I’d take the armada
The reason why Landcruiser is so special is that it's one of the few vehicles you can buy from a dealership and send it anywhere, war zone, security, offroad, Overlanding, towing etc. having the ability to add a bullbar, offroad wheels and other aftermarket parts, makes it very flexible to adapt. A Landcruiser should perform in the outback, 800 miles away from the nearest gas station, rugged and extreme climates, where failure could be highly dangerous.
So can a Nissan petrol which is what the armada is ….
24:18; "How many people are actually taking their 90 thousand dollar SUV offroading?" In my part of the woods, EVERYONE takes their Landcruiser, Range Rover, G Wagon, etc offroading. That's why we buy them.
nah range rover breaks down a lot nobody takes that offroad and armada is damm good offroading
BEST. THUMBNAIL. SHADE. EVER.
Armada/ Patrol all the way! With the 20k difference, you could buy a near new hot hatch!
That's what she said
the resale value on those land cruiser is insane.
Both those vehicles are dinosaurs but I know which one will still be running well at 200,000 miles !!! Toyota seams lost in their large SUVs and their large pickup. They need to modernize and thin down some of those models. The Nissan Armada has approved but the depreciation of Nissan vehicles is very serious so I would not buy one. And that chrome fender vent is heinous... I'd rather buy the Genesis gv80 with the twin turbo 3.5...
The Nissan's depreciation is exactly why I would buy one. Fantastic value used
I have a 2005 Armada SE, try to sell it when It had 150K miles for $10K, no one bought it, try to sell it at 250K mile for $6K, no one wanted it, now it has 340K miles and I am going to keep driving till it dies. I bought a 2018 QX80 and adding miles on it now...
Its the landcruiser for me i can drive it for 6 years, put 85k miles and still sell it for $30k
nah you can sell it for wayy more than $30k
Man, those roof racks at night are scary when u wanna drive fast 😂😂
I love the Land Cruiser but being at that age and with what it has is not worth its price point.
this makes no sense - Toyota isn't selling a high priced piece of technology they are selling a strong, durable, reliable, quality built vehicle that you may only have to buy one time in 30 years at 90k versus buying a new Benz or BMW every 5 years at the same price ... the Land Cruiser is the smartest purchase - unless you use technology to make up for ones lack of intelligence lol
My dream car Nissan armada.I drive patrol when I was young Philippines big flood Manila the patrol the best
This uploaded video comparison was 15 yrs late,,
If you care about resale value, it's not a contest
Without question land cruiser. The money spent will guarantee it’ll last forever. That thing is a legendary tank
You should look at how solid the engine in the Armada is. It's about as bulletproof as you can get to the point they switched from the chevy LS to the Nissan VK56 engine for racing in the v8 race cars in australia because they can go three times as long between rebuilds. This engine can handle 1200 horsepower with stock internals and water pump.
He's missed the point! These are cars are not designed to be ridden in built areas, the Land Cruiser is designed to cross continents with zero to no reliability problems. The biggest purchaser of the Toyota land cruiser is the UN!
I agree... these are popular in African countries, Asia, Australia, and South America as the terrains are unforgiving. It's meant to reach places where normal cars cannot handle and thats the reason they are priced the way they are especially the land cruiser.
Hey city boy, I know you don't understand why its always the land cruiser that wins. Lol but great video.
Nissan Patrol is a better name than Armada.
Any reason for changing the name in NA?
Ig cause the armada there has no off road gizmos, even a rear diff, so yeah it doesnt deserve the off roading related patrol name
MUHAMMAD AZAAN why Nissan took out all the off reading goodies?
@@jdc3636 to reduce costs I'm guessing or cause low demand for off roaders
@@uww.v i think its patrol worthy it has a low gear offroad modes i lived in the middle east they look soo a soo similar plus ppl now are instaling diff lock so i would not mind seeing a patrol nameplate and i think its not cost cutting cause this has an better interior then the patrol still love patrol and armada
I would take the Toyota
I’d take both, but the armada is 0-60 in 5.9 seconds while the land cruiser is 6.6
Armada wins
Ground clearance is measured at the lowest point of the vehicle whichis the rear differential. Thats why the 2" lifted TRD pros still have the same ground clearance as the standard trucks.
There both nice but too large of vehicles for me personally. Ever since I started to watch your videos over a month and a half ago when I started to shop for a suv because of my reconstructed hip from the military so I needed something higher off the ground, I absolutely love the Toyota RAV4 2019 and up. I got lucky and found a 2019 RAV4 xle premium which is almost pretty much loaded which is perfect for me my favorite interior of the RAV4 surprisingly is the nobs for the ac I think it’s unique to the RAV4. So thankful for your videos.
Money no object - Land Cruiser. Back to reality, buy a 3-5 year old Land Cruiser, save 30-45%, and you're good to go. Its mechanically the same. As for tech, there are work-arounds (i.e. Apple CarPlay/Android Auto) that will get you 90% there.
"Battle of the thirsty old queens" I'm dying lol
Seems like they miss the mark. Hype and cost off off-road titans without the better suspensions, clearance, and locking diffs. Buy a Tundra.
I love 💕 Nissan Armada
Good review, couple of items though, the LC HE has wireless charging. The price you pay on the LC is not on the interior blings, its on the drivetrain, and suspension. You should look underneath and see how beefier everything is compared to the Nissan.
I think you have totally missed the point of the Land Cruiser. People don’t buy the LC for the electronic silliness of an interior and the ability to haul around a million kids. They buy the LC because it will run 400k miles before you even have to take it to a mechanic outside of oil changes and new tires.
I think you missed the point. The LC is the best Toyota has to offer and is much better than the Seqouia. The Armada is the best Nissan has to offer. The point was to show that even with Toyota's best in terms of overall quality of materials, etc... the Armada still wins out especially as a daily vehicle.
@@caribgenius fine. I understand your point. I look forward to his comparison of Toyota Avalon vs. Nissan Versa.
@@terrytrout2811 think you're smart? Wouldn't it be insane if a Versa beat an Avalon in a comparison test? Welp...that's what the Patrol did to the LC....let that marinate for a second.
The Land Cruiser Heritage Edition is way cooler, but the Nissan is a little more up to date and easier to live with.
Armada ftw!
This is out of topic but how come Honda never had a full sized suv or even a v8?
Americans love their nissan/toyota suv. not as much as every other country. America gets all the stripped out cheep versions because they don't want to pay for the fancier things while everyone else gets all the bells and whistle don't matter the cost. Nissan patrol way more stuff. Land cruiser will never go away regardless how much fuel it drinks.
One is made for off-road and one is a pavement princess. They really shouldn't even be compared.
But both spend 90% of their life on pavement.
Now if Nissan would just bring a legitimate 4Runner fighter even base off the Patrol would be nice and they would save tons of money.
I mean, they could bring the Terra/X-Terra overseas.
@@Turbs2008 exactly or bring the Pathfinder back to its true roots.
Yes.
@@Turbs2008 but patrol is patrol
@@iheartgs400 man but if they bring the nissan patrol that will be the best

Is the Armada an actual Nissan or another renault?
It is sold overseas as the Patrol, its a legit off road capable Nissan.
That Nissan Armada front end looks better than the new Toyota Tundra 2022
It’s interesting how the never talk about the Carbon build up by the Armada
Very lopsided review, to each his own. Armada is by far one of the best value buys in the segment for what you get. In the Australia and Middle East, this Armada aka Patrol has the same reputation if not better than the LC. Toyota has been riding the reliability boat for a long time without making a new updates to keep up. Sold my LC200 and got the Patrol few months back and never looked back. Both are great rigs, but if you don't have 90K+, the Armada is an easy choice. Stay safe out there!
Nissan Armada looks good inside and out. When the interior ergonomics are done right, "updating" is unessacary
These vehicles shouldn't be compared. They are totally different!
I can't believe 2021 Toyota products still use that cruise control stick lol
Why not? It works great. I like my Sequoia cruise control better the my Focus and Hyundai which have it on the front of the steering wheel.
Nothing better than a huge gas guzzling pig of an SUV for running sissy's in EVs off the road or for cutting them off in traffic.
