Coffee & TV is the definition of a killer riff. The little bend is flawless. And while everyone else was jamming Song 2, Beetlebum was the track I was amazed by. Well done.
Superb job mate! Really nailed the little details. Some giant riffs, Mr Coxon wrote. Btw, I just realized that Charmless Man must be a response to This Charming Man, and so, I can imagine how much Mr Coxon was inspired by the one, the only, Mr Marr
Nice one mate... that certainly took me back! I was a huge fan in the early days during my college years and the 1995 Brit Pop battle with Oasis. I saw them at Brixton Academy in 1997, touring after the release of ‘Blur’. That was an immense night and I’ll take it to my grave (though the Super Furry Animals warming up for them were pretty f’n special too!) It may be that I’m getting old and grumpy now, but when I saw them again in Hyde Park, summer 2015 promoting ‘The Magic Whip’, it just wasn’t the same energy. P.S. I certainly know who won the Blur/Oasis battle on manners... I used to work in a pub called the Bar Hawley (previously the Hawley Arms) in Camden Town. I once did a double-take when I saw Liam across the road from me in a quiet area towards Regents Park when I was walking to work. He glared at me as if to say ‘do one!’ About the same time, Graham stumbles into the bar late one evening drunk and I refuse to serve him. His minders and Damon say sorry and they bundle him out and leave. Fact. My only real sad claim to fame!
graham coxon is such an underappreciated guitarist honestly. blur just got way to overshadowed by oasis' fame and the britpop movement. you played all of these unique riffs beautifully!
Noel G himself said that Graham was one of the best guitarists of his generation. Maybe he can't shred at 100 MPH but he creates guitar riffs that are so inventive not many could come up with them. Similar to Johnny Marr in that respect.
The thing with Coxon is that he's not jaw droppingly amazing. He has a very, very specific set of skills, which he uses very, very well. And that's what makes him great.
And with working with duran duran, he's proven to be even more diverse. He cowrote the majority of the tracks on Future Past but none of them are heavily guitar oriented... The guy just knows how to write a pop song!
It’s the difference between technical ability and creativity. He isn’t the most technically gifted by any stretch but he came up with riffs, progressions and solos that no one else would ever have come up with. That’s what makes him great.
@João de Arruda Campos Cardoso listen to Modern Life Is Rubbish, their second album and for me, their best Also Parklife and Leisure are good listenings, but Modern Life is perfect and every song goes perfectly
Graham Coxon is such an underrated guitarist in my opinion, he writes such good riffs and he definitely needs more recognition. Great job dude, killer playing
Fun fact. Especially Liam Gallagher like to brag about Morning Glory selling many more copies than The great escape. Well Damon Albarn's work (Blur, Gorillaz and solo) has more listeners on Spotify than Liam Noel and Oasis combined now! And Morning Glory sold roughly 6 times more than the great escape but now the ratio is very roughly 2:1 on Spotify in Oasis favour (vs Blur only) and that's quite remarkable since Blur haven't really been fronting their music like Liam and Noel has . Great Video and great playing!
One of my favourite guitarists of all time. Great choices all around, some other great genius moment by Graham imo are I Know, Chemical World, Oily Water, Villa Rosie, Stereotypes, Bugman and most of all, the chorus to the incredible He Thought of Cars.
I'm so glad to find someone making justice to Bang, a totally underrated guitar work by Graham Coxon. The intro is fantastic and also the verse parts. Combined with the baggy groove it's beyond me why Blur fans don't seem to enjoy this single
So quintessentially British. Elegant and rocking. Graham just has a way with making the riffs seem like there’s 2 guitars. Little melodic notes between the chords to fill up the space and make everything interesting. Great tone.
Just listened to the Oasis riffs before this. The amount of melodic interest and originality in Coxon's playing compared to Gallagher's tired old rock n roll tropes are just embarrassing to the latter. But then again I did pick sides in this particular battle of bands.
Great effort!! Beetlebum made me start singing at one point, that riff always gets me. Blur deserve more recognition, I personally love their music, but I love the development of it through the years even more, from britpop to their own sound.
Chinese Bombs is one of my favorites. Also the beginning of Bang was Alex James’ bassline. Graham doesn’t start until the funky stuff up near the top of the neck.
All solid riffs but so many others. Chemical world, in particular near the end (just killer). Take is another. M O R , woodpigeon spng, x-offender, jets. Coxie is damn skippy
Love ’em all, but as a guitar teacher for 20+ years I think that Charmless Man is the riff no-one else could’ve written and is the central masterpiece of Coxon songwriting. All great riffs though.
Happy birday graham coxon
Feliz pajaro JAJAAJJJ
Coffee & TV is the definition of a killer riff. The little bend is flawless.
And while everyone else was jamming Song 2, Beetlebum was the track I was amazed by.
Well done.
Never liked song 2 much even before I got into blur. Beetlebum absolutely blew my mind however
He stops playing Song 2 on 2:02
Superb job mate! Really nailed the little details. Some giant riffs, Mr Coxon wrote. Btw, I just realized that Charmless Man must be a response to This Charming Man, and so, I can imagine how much Mr Coxon was inspired by the one, the only, Mr Marr
Indeed. You can hear Marr's influence on all these Britpop bands.
Bloxsy could very well be Graham Coxon's long lost twin, brilliant stuff
Crazy beat need to be here!!
He's such a creative writer
Can't have a top 10 Blur Riffs without Chemical World as the number 1!

graham coxon is such an underappreciated guitarist honestly. blur just got way to overshadowed by oasis' fame and the britpop movement.

No Gallagher could be at this guitar level
I used to know an Ines C irl at school lol
Both Blur and Suede are twice as good as Oasis in my opinion.

graham coxon is one of the GOATs tbh, ingenious and really out-there with his guitar skills--and that's why he's one of my favorite guitarists lmao
The thing with Coxon is that he's not jaw droppingly amazing. He has a very, very specific set of skills, which he uses very, very well. And that's what makes him great.
he’s not, j mascis is the GOAT
Yeah, the way that coxon use the guitar to do his lines or licks it's amazing, very creative

They're also the Bill Barett, country living, coffee drinking, park going pre-Gorillaz frontman band.
y? u cant know about every good band on eath, and i think thats good, that there at least one song, that know (or ever heard once) anyone
“Submission - Sex pistols”

Much respect for including Bang. Criminally underrated song and a killer riff
I'd argue it's harder than Snow by RCHP
Graham Coxon, one of the most characteristic and originals guitarists ever.
Coxon >>>>>>>> Gallagher
Is it even a contest
No but Coxon is better.
It's not even a opinion, is a fact
Noel wouldn't even disagree if we're talking about them as guitars
oasis is my favourite band and i agree Coxon is a better player but Noel a better song writter
Killer playing on "No Distance Left To Run"! Coxon is immense. 'Clover Over Dover' is another cool piece by him.
Thanks. Haven't heard that one, will check it out.
