    Hey there is a unique jewel called Prism of Belief, this can give u +3 levels to scavenged plating which will give u a lots of flat thorns.

    Edit: I've done some testing of my own. Anything that mentions hits does not work with thorns. So all that fire damage and penetration I mentioned below, won't work.
    I have recently started leveling a thorns build. Warbringer is the best option due to the block all hits node and the shield being 40% block.
    I have been using resonating shield to apply armour breaking, you have to use unbreakable with this skill. Magma barrier is awesome. Good damage burst. I currently use it to remove fully broken armour. It gains endurance charges but I currently have no use for them. I will change my armour break consume to seismic cry, I doubt it will work much better.
    I am not going the strength stacking route. I want int to use vulnerability, arctic armour and possibly cast on crit. If cast on crit works with thorns crit, I will use that to consume armour breaking.
    Resonating shield is based off shield armour. Not needing block increase on the shield allows us to stack armour on the shield.
    The node giving thorns based on 2% of body armour armour is meh. At 2k armour, it's only 40 thorns. It helps but it's a massive cost for little gain. It should be a low priority. The key is scavenged plating. Boost it as much as possible. Armour break quickly and remove it asap. Max block is also needed.
    I am streaming my play on X. So you can watch it there to see how it's going. Thanks for the build and inspiring me to make it. I'm not pure thorns, but I'm basically reflect/counter-attack damage.

    I think there is a way to make this build better still. I think you would have a better chance if you went Avatar of Fire. Then you can use flammability and exposure. You can skip all armour build up mechanics. If you remove the skills that require a mace, you can use any weapon as a stat stick, then the sceptre with Malice would probably be your best bet. Then things like added fire damage on rings should add to thorns. If you get that on a breach ring and put 50% quality on it, you could be looking at fire damage equal to the max roll thorn damage on the chest. If you are really lucky/wealthy, you could get % fire damage on those rings too. There are more nodes that add fire damage than physical.
    I would stay crit and keep the thorns nodes. But switch to Avatar of Fire. Get a bunch of nodes that give % damage to ignited enemies. If the thorn damage is large enough, it should ignite enemies (but I have planned a backup). Use Magma Barrier as you exposure applier. Flammability to lower res. Then you can add Arctic Armour (it will converted to fire). And possibly Cast on Crit/Dodge. This will cast a spell to make sure the enemy is ignited, most likely flame wall with fortitude. Malice should bring your crit chance up to around 65% (if not higher). And a sceptre will give you the spirit you need to run more of these buffs. But you might need to drop Scavanged Plating as you probably wont be breaking any armour.

    Potraction notable may be helpful here. It adds a good 40% to skill duration. My scavenged plating at base is 8 seconds. Then it jumps to 11.2 with persistence. With a 80% it should be 14.4 seconds. That is a good amount of time to get more stacks on bosses.
    Support skills like devastate may also be worth it if your incorporating a lot of stun. Could potentially armor break, use expose weakness support skill to absorb it, then stun for a second armor break right away. Rinse repeat process. This might work better on titan with stuns, but war bringer can inherently break armor. Shattering blow is the better option if you can break armor fast.

    This should be called the Throfinn build. The Vinland saga Thorfinn. Because it reminds me of Thorfinn taking 100 punches but still winning without throwing a single punch back. Proceeds to say I have no enemies.

    I don't know if anyone has told you yet, but Armour isnt actually a flat mitigation like the number would suggest. And the value they use for that number isnt very realistic and in general it will mitigate less damage than it states.
    Also have you considered Chronomancer with recoup?

    mad respect for testing the thorn build, I hope they buff thorn this is weaker than I think and I don't want the game to have any useless stat, there should be a viable thorn build.

    depending on how tight you are on skillpoints but adding recoup and maybe a curse such as vulnerability could help loads

    Good job making it to 16s.
    Currently working on the avatar of fire thorns. Cause there is a scepter that gives u 60% of damage as extra fire damage (Sacred Flame shrine Scepter). So it can bring back the damage lost on avatar of fire (-25% less).With the extra 20% damage as fire on tree = +80% more
    Since thorns is not a hit, fire penetration doesnt work. So im working and making tests with several skills to get most fire exposure possibly, and Flamability Curse also helps here.
    Same mechanic, break full armour, armour explosion(fire damage), reset, get more charges for scavenger, get many as possible inc duration to keep those as much as possible.
    Fire also is a nice add, to magma shield /infernal cry combo with endurance charges.

    Hey Kall! Nice to see you took my tree reroute suggestions. Insane that youve made it to T16s! Seeing how its working, I do think thorns is relegated to supplemental damage right now, but its has great potential for new ascendancies and Uniques to send it skyrocketing. As you said, it really needs a "Proc Thorns in X radius" Or "apply thorns damage on weapon hit" type mechanic for it to feel better.
    For this build, now that you're scaling str and using warcrys, you probably want to slap on Corrupting Cry and spec Warcries on titan. Maybe even test out Stomping ground on Stampede or Sheild charge. Both of these scale on a % of your Str and might help clear and boss damage. The thorns would be there for the Fast hitting enemy skills to quickly burst them down.
    Shame to hear we cant armour break Shield walls anymore. Any chance youve tried the same on FrostWalls or the icicles from Glacial Bolt? Last i knew you can still hit them, though im unsure if they still have armor to break.

      @@steven3825 agreed! Unfortunately I do not think there is much further we can push thorns without insane investment into his gear. Lots of chaos and stuff.
      Like you say it just feels like thorns is mainly a supplementary damage and needs just a bit more support. I'm not done with it yet but this feels like the biggest wall we've hit.
      I have yet to try ice wall cuz of low int. Right now I'm currency starved and leveling an alt, but gonna get back to messing with the thorns soon

    Love to see a full thorns making it so far! I wouldn't be able to resist adding supplemental damage somewhere. Personally I think it would be interesting if druid brought along a good ascendency for thorns or good "nature" spells for thorns.

    have you tested sacred flame as your main weapon yet? up to 72% damage as extra fire seems kinda useful if you ask me for multiplying your damage from thorns but maybe not

    ive been checking back here daily since i have played your thorns build in diablo aswell. ive been working hard to make it work and i think i got it. i can go write it all down if people want in depth. so far only been cleaning t6-7 maps but without any real problems. its a bit more than just thorns i know, but the only blocking and standing still playstyle is really there. also if you want to run a shield build i think this is top tier!

    You need turtle charm, that way you dont need to hold your shield up and get a sval shield to get that 77% block. You'd be invincible.

    Have you thought about implementing the unique chest piece that reflects 250% of melee damage recieved? I know it isnt trchnically thorns and you would lose some defencives from it but maybe the damage gained from it would be worth it?

    I know that some on hit damage is being triggered on evasion dodge, so some of the high-tier evasion dodge builds have capped evasion %... curious if thorn is odd enough to be one of those that procs thorns...

    also.... additional idea.. some use raging spirits not for the damage, but for armour break.. they attack so fast that it might stack you to 10.

    Got some more findings for you!
    The endurance charge node next to spiked armour is INSANE for survivability, that and using magma barrier which will inflict armour break can make you have 4 free endurance charges very quickly for a total of 36% of your health back after 4 “parries”. I’ve just been using infernal cry to boost my basic attacks for each endurance charge for now but I’m still a ways away.
    The rage notable vengeful fury next to retaliation has been very useful as you get to max rage quickly and I’m also expecting battle trance/ ignore pain to be super useful as well as stun threshold is equivalent to your damage going up as more time to block = a higher damage window.
    Last thing I still haven’t tested is unwavering stance for the double stun threshold but lost dodge roll. Seems fine as you ideally want to just be a unit and tank it all but of course unblockables exist.
    Also! You mentioned you have low accuracy, which can be really detrimental as we can’t break armour fast enough. Two accuracy clusters near the vengeance thorns node are super useful and a low skill point investment. So far I’ve only needed just enough to get to determined precision so 3 skill points to bring my accuracy to 87% is not bad!

    Posted a comment on the last video recommending Blood Magic and Avatar of Fire. Since you crit a lot, you can ignite and spread the ignite to enemies. Having DoT in addition to flat thorn damage.
    I wonder, is Thorns considered "melee damage"? There are Fire notables that give Fire Exposure on Heavy stunned enemies. And your current passive tree is near a lot of Fire Clusters and Ignite clusters. Maybe change amulet notable to Cremation (18 % fire res pen)

    What about having a crossbow as a swap and drop a gas grenade that has corrosion and deadly poison? That would break the armor quite fast, and you could just stand and consume armor break.

    ancestral warrior totem could help breaking that armour with armour breaker skill on it, also you already have the titan blood thingy to use 2h in one hand I presume it's a matter of either stats or just proper 2h mace/currency to get one (?), also I've seen some builds that one shot everything with the ascendancy that you were thinking about to go with armour break below zero that might be a way to have a quick clear/huge impact on building up whatever you were trying to go with on the boss? It looks time consuming, tricky and a bit painful to go through maps with thorns but kudos to you man for actually making it to 15s with this build. I think It needs some form of active skill that would act on thorns damage that maybe currently is not available/be possible to do atm, I mean where are such things like cast on stun/cast on block/cast on thorn(?) I presume those will/could/should be added to the game afterwards.
    Been playing Titan Warrior since release of EA and recently I've switched to Monk Inovker .... and clearspeed is incomparable. I've blitzed through campaign and straight to t10+'s. And comparing both classes and overally to everything else in the game that have examples of some broken builds that can kill end game bosses in matter of seconds... Warrior needs a lot of love. I mean there are barely any interactions with charges and skills apart from warcries for Warrior, skills IMO are waaaay to slow with windup/attack speed/or any way to work around that. I think GGG needs to look more at stuff that could actually use endurance charges more like maybe sunder could be quicker/insta casted if you have a endurance charge or had more damage apart from war cry buff or area improvement and such. Anyway I'm really looking forward to what GGG will do with this class and future ascedancies/changes.
    Also 50%+ armour/phys reduction I think you could get more with that easily, my titan has 80% armour, 50% block all resists capped over + chaos 71% without the chest armour ascendancy so chest I think is something of a "huge defense boost on that piece on whatever class you play" to get that node that gives you +80% of armour/evasion/etc on a node which if you get a chest with like 2k armour thats a huuuge armour boost. Also look for additional physical damage reduction that tends to show up on shields (dunno if that occurs on chests too) to make it easier for yourself tho I presume/guess you're starved for stat space with the need for thorns on as many pieces of gear. Anyway I was wondering my self how those thorns work out and I'm glad someone actually tried it. Maybe if it was loads easier to get that to have something that will reflect back it would be a two way build, sunder/some skill to kill boss, thorns for clear speed (with max block?)... feels like thorns would need some thorns explosion (i.e. above mentioned cast on thorn) or some more ways to interact with that stat. Cheers man!
    Also just noticed woolfio was building his thorns and he uses crown of pale king that "thorns damage is triggered by all hits" so maybe thats a way to solve the problem of being forced to passively wait for damage received but I presume that will further tax the stat starved equipement situation. Dunno. Just my few cents. Sorry for wall of text.

    This sounds like the perfect situation for those weapon switch nodes. You'd have a shield for the thorns half, and some other kind of build for 1v1ing bosses.
    I have't had the opurtunity to play much yet, so i don't know if what i'm saying is even feasable. Christmas overtime sucks.

    Nice timing, I just decided go for a thorns build too, good to see that it kinda works. I'm going for Gremling Legionnaire, stacking str for a ton of life to just stand and tank stuff, while thorns do their thing. Since str can satisfy attribute requirements, it shouldn't be an issue to run things like blasphemy for some curse aura and maybe some trigger spells too.

      @@KallTorak Cleared the campaign and got into maps over the past few days, great build so far! I focus more heavily on Seismic Cry, linked with Corrupting Cry for dot and Pin Support so it doesn't stun -> no cooldown. Really strong for survivability too with "grants life per enemy hit" on your weapon.
      Resonating Shield feels rough for armour break stacking, have you tried the Armour Breaker skill? Deals about 4x as much dmg and works a lot bette rfor me. 1-3 bonks to break armour on most rares/bosses, then I use Exploit Weakness linked to Arctic Armour to remove it. Doesn't work on all bosses, but I can usually get a few stacks going in most single target scenarios.
      I'm also thinking about adding the totem tech from Steelmage's warcry build, it should be a nice bump to the damage output.

    Does Armour Breaker not break more armor then a mace attack? You could also put exploit weakness in a low level solar orb, so you don't have to stop hitting to cast warcry. Since you have a lot of duration the orb will last a long time and hit (with quality) about every second removing break

    The change to shield wall really hurts the build, needing to invest so many points into armour break means less points into survivability and more importantly, sustain. The Surrender might be the ideal shield for the 4% life recovered on block in this case. Because of that (and for just general survivability) I think Turtle Charm from Ascendancy is hurting more than it helps, the less block chance meaning you get hurt more and deal less damage due to Lay Siege and Offensive Stance. I don't think occasionally being able to block an aoe makes up for that, unless you can cap it through the Svalinn shield. You might consider worth putting the points into Warcaller's Bellow instead for the corpse pops to help with clear.

      I have also torn on turtle charm. Honestly without some changes, I think titan or even gemling might be better for thorns. A lot to test out for sure. Turtle charm does feel like bait sometimes for sure

    Looks very slow but very fun! I hope GGG fixes bugs and adds more items to enable more thorns archetype in the future. I'm a big fan of defensive playstyle so it would be cool if poe2 leaned into it more.
    And yeah I agree with you re poe 1 vs poe 2 as someone who played too much poe 1. The physics and animation of poe 2 is such a step up. I can't wait to see how good poe 2 will be in a year.

      Mercenary's tree is super weird. Like, when you look at it, it is trying to do a little bit of everything. As such, the "surrounded" nodes aren't powerful enough, because there are not enough node clusters. You can't effectively invest in "surrounded".

    I think if you can make witch hunter works that would be really good for clear and bossing like the cull and the other things gonna take off like 60% off white mobs hp instantly and it's gonna take a huge chunk off bosses as well a d then you add the on kill explosion that would help the build a lot

    why don't you use magma barrier?? it have 100 times more damage of the thorn damage, and play style is more like a shield warrior, cause it only active when you use shield in a correct time. you can actually kill the boss with only holding the shield correctly.

      I'm not sure because in some instances it is and some instances it isnt haha. Idk if this is a bug or not, I assume it is hit damage, cuz most of the time it functions as a hit. But sometimes it doesnt =/

      Doesn't seem to inflict bleeding on hit, but the base strike skill is decent to bonk/bleed stuff in act1 so far

      Currently that node and the similar nodes do not work with Spiked Armour notable and do not scale Thorns. I believe it's a bug but hard to really say unless it's fixed or confirmed to be intended.

      @@Arkreaver Coming from PoE1 to me that seems like intended. Stuff like that always only worked on the values ou got from the piece itself (meaning what you can read on the equipment itself), not any bonuses that scale that value on your stat sheet.
      I'd still think that taking the node would be sensible if you are already at it.

      @@Serdoa See I thought that as well, that's usually the behavior we see on shield skills with the added flat phys. per armour. Both in PoE1 and 2, that's worded as armour "on" the shield. However, Spiked Armour (and the increased armour notables) both use the wording "from" body armour, not to mention Spiked Armour's wheel also has increased armour when you get hit, so I'm kind of leaning to it being a bug, but it remains to be seen.
      That said, you're right that taking the nod while that close is probably worth it just for the increased defence.

      @ Thoughts on Magma Barrier? Quality gives it a LARGE parry window and it scales really well, might be a good source of dmg with out taking away the identity of the build

    idk if u seen the chest piece Bramblejack Rusted Cuirass but it gives 250% physical reflect so if u take 2000 damage a hit u reflect 5000 damage and with ES builds u can get 12000+ ES so if u get the belt where ur flask regens ur ES then u got a ton of HP to sacrifice on bosses for big damage ontop of all ur other thorns gear

    Id say thorns is not a hit, more like a trigger. You dont hit with thorns

      Was about to say that, i have tested with several things that works only on hit. Thorns is not a Hit on this game
      bleeding, critical weakness (malice scepter), all of that dont help thorns
      if u turn to fire thorns (avatar of fire), ignite, fire penetration, also dont work with thorns

    I think my summoner's hellhound alone does more dps then you. my hellhound is doing armour break job from splinter support gem .splinter support gem does 15% phy dps armour break. almost take the same time as you to armour break boss.
