I actually got into F1 after watching the first season of the show and I was expecting Max to be the rebellious little bitch boy no one liked and I was pretty shocked to find the him and Daniel are so close like this. D2S made it look like they didn’t want to associate with each other.
New to F1 here, just watched the netflix show and that's how I felt. Completely shocked to see his true personality and chemistry with Ricciardo. I was def made to feel like they truly hated each other.
I’m no Max fan but Daniel really brought the best out of him personality-wise when they were together. Max never shows these sides to him nowadays so it’s nice to look back and see these two together and enjoy Max just being silly and laughing etc.

I don't think I need to exaggerate the idea that the way his dad raised him to purely focus on racing ended up having a toll (like it would tend to do), with none of the otherwise fundamental developments that a child / a teen would probably experience in a more-regular parental setup. I live in Eastern Asia and you could say it's almost a stereotype that there are a bunch of harsh and brutal parents there too, and you can almost bet that a lot (not saying 'most', but definitely 'a lot') of the kids raised under that aren't gonna turn out to be the most 'regular'-seeming.
Max and Daniel were definitely the best team mates off the track, on the track not so much. I personally think Redbull Racing had something to do with that for sure.
I know they are actually asked about this, even recently. Daniel admitted to the final year of being teammates, they didn't really go well together because of the treatment that Max received from Redbull. However, they do seem to have a better friendship now that they are in separate teams. I am not sure if they are as good as friends as for example Lando is with Carlos, doing things together outside of racing, but I don't think they were friends just because they were teammates.

My boyfriend and I agree that Max can often be really arrogant and act like a brat when he doesn’t get his own way with the team. He’s nice to Daniel for sure off the track but when he’s behind the wheel he’s totally different (like most drivers cuz they’re in the “zone”)

i love how completely honest daniel is when it comes to how the job functions. like, 'Max can't win, but i can, and if he takes everyone out. I'll give him a cut of my check from the win'. it always makes me laugh how goofy they are together
Despite Netflix making Max look like a vilain, he's undoubtedly the most loved driver. Watch every Abu Dhabi reaction video from all over the world, they cheered for Max. Abu Dhabi itself, cheered for Max. We finally have a champion that's Sincere, doesn't virtue signal, has Charisma, and reminds us like the greats such as Senna. Thank God.

Netflix only portrays him as a villain because he refused to take part in DTS, because he sees it for what it is: mostly fabricated bullshit taken out of context made up drama. So out of spite Netflix is just like “oh alright then since you’re not gonna be on our show we’re gonna make you look like a dick 24/7”
I think part of the reason why Denny left RBR had something to do with him not wanting his relationship with Max to deteriorate any further, he genuinely cherished this friendship.
They're actually a hilarious combo. Unexpected, but they were great. F1 is just too competitive for them to be teammates though since they are both so good.
