+David Vermillion My neighbor deserves this after harassing me for five years with her radio echoing all over my neighborhood all day just to harass me
Lol that’s awesome and brought back memories. When I was a kid in the early 70s, my school was next to a busy road at the top of a hill. All day long I would hear trucks climbing the hill as this GMC did and got to know the unique pitch of the engines. There were regulars like the Mack R model dump trucks from FO Day, Brockway cement trucks from Maloney Concrete and a variety of local delivery trucks. Interstate 70 was a short distance away so we would also see big rigs making their way to the highway. By the sound of the engine you could tell if it was going to be something new and interesting and if they were loaded or empty. It’s amazing I got through 4th and 5th grade. 😅
Same experience here- when I was 10 years old (1964), my friends and I would hang out on the steps of the general store in Dublin N.H. and listen for the different trucks struggling up the hill to the center of our village as they headed westbound on Route 101. By the time they reached the crest, we could see the exhaust stacks pumping out plumes of black smoke before the tops of the cab, then the radiator, and so forth came into view. We'd bet each other whether or not that truck was a Mack, or Autocar, or GMC or Kenworth by listening to the engines. We'd be wrong half the time, but the Detroit Diesel was a sure giveaway for any GMC!
I grew up near a hill just off of the hi-way. I remember being lulled to sleep, listening to the old rigs traveling up and down that hill. Sweet dreams.
It brings a tear to my eye every time I watch this. I grew up with these old 6-71's and there's nothing like them. I laughed out loud the first time I saw this b/c of the minivan. I am building a GMC Brigadier "rail buggy" with a turbo 6-71n right now and I will be posting pics soon. Hope you might like. thanks for you video!
Lived That Sound for Years. Pulling %9 Grades 15MPH Tugging 8,800 Gallons of Gas behind us. TWO 3" "COP-CALLER" Stacks climbing the back of the Bunk. No interior insulation, Dust vibrating on The tin floor like popcorn. Flames heaving out both Stacks!.....Miss It.
ive been trucking 42 years myself my pop drove all his life also. I remember a guy down the street had a red GMC just like that my dad had a old Transtar both had double brasted yamaha's & by coincidence i was a kid with my dad in Baltimore,Md we both loaded domino's sugar going back to indiana. We only waved at the other driver when passing his place untill then. They road & talked all day & night on the radio running backroads mostly because then half country was 80,000 other half was 73,280 and both was over 80K for sure. I'll never forget laying in the bunk of that transtar with both stacks screaming pulling hill's over loaded to beat hell. The radio turned up as loud as it would go laying over top of that Detroit thinking man someday that'll be me up there. By the time i made it the old Detroit's were pretty far & few between only guys still running them were trying there best to get out of them mostly because of the oil cost (lol) Thanks for taking me back. Trucking was another time back then. Hell when everybody was screaming on the radio years ago "truckdriver's are a dying breed" i didn't know they were talking about me & the other handful or 2 of truckdriver's left out here just trying to make it to the end. I remember ALL truckdriver's had a bottle of real pills & a big chunk of chicken feed my pop woul cut a chunk off and throw in his coeffe cup and ride all day and night. Hell everybody knew what was going on & every truckdriver was running at least 2 log books. Trucking was a proud profession then. They were the last American cowboy not a druggy. Thanx again for taking me back when all the big trucks had truckdrivers in them not steering wheel holders
Damn it’s not very often I remember seeing a 6-71, especially in a Cracker Box, with dual stacks! Usually it’s always a 8V-71 but nevertheless it sounds great!
If I had a cell phone, that would the world's most BAD ASS RING TONE!!! Doesn't sound like a lawn mower OR a goddamned vacuum cleaner.Just plain old good.
when i was about 5yr old my uncle gave me a ride in his crackerbox and i thought i was on top of the world the thing was so high. that was the day i wanted to become a driver and as soon as i was able, i got my license and for 35yr i was proud to be a driver. millions of accident free miles and was a fun time, todays trucking is just not for me anymore, to many wannabe drivers that want to be home everyday. wish they had some gonads and would be a driver like we all use to be, be gone most of the week or stay out as long as you want, no that is driving
Well the log truckers may get home almost everyday, but they are also doing more than normal drivers: stuff like highballin' on dirt roads (in Canada it's now only 105 km/h), hauling 140000 lbs up hills low gear all the way, and given 'er hell to get back home from the mill after 1-2 loads a day.
nice. i begged my grampa for this 46 white flatbed i played in as a kid. itll be re-powered with a 671 or even 653 and a spicer soon. will be a great working toy. anyone who knows these can hear them miles away. sweet sound.
I love this vid great job man I have to have the volume turned all they way up my wife dont understand why but this has become almost daily thing I love that sound P S my 3 year old grandson comes running every time he heres it great job
The best part is it must have been out in the open part of the country where jake brakes aren't taboo, the car at the end of the clip is a cop car with the antenna, but he pulled over to video tape it and share the glorious sound with us on youtube, instead of pulling the guy over for the sound.
My neighbor had a red and black Crackerbox when I was a kid, I remember pulling the Burns hill with him loaded with sawdust, heading to the charcoal plant, she sounded like a fighter jet,but we we lucky to be doing 15 or 20 Mph!
Literally had the volume all the way up from the last video I watched, and it was so painful that I couldnt even turn the volume down; I was frozen in place lol.
Haha, used to lay in my backyard as a kid on sunday nights and listen to the locals heading westz could hear them old detroits going down the whole valley. Thats what gave me the fever.
I'd be so scared if I was in that van lol yeah my uncle has a couple of 35 ton groves with detroits in them. I used to here them coming through town all the way from our farm haha
i drove a rear loader trash truck for a place for a long time the truck i drove was the only one there with a detroit it was a 6-71 terbo 4 velve per cylinder every one knew when i was coming them detroit 2 strokes had a sound on there own
man, that minivan sounded good!! they don't make vans like that anymore
todd epperson That Was friggin hilarious!!You know that soccer mom was shitting bricks!!!
When kids are late for school dad's always there on time it can be 8:10 he can still get the kids at 8:00
The minivan driver thought death and hell were coming for him and the cop was thinking you are on your own LOL.
Funny! You're a good joker! 😂
She had to change her drawers after seeing/ hearing that coming up on her!
the mini van driver is like oh shit what the heck is that thing behind me
😂😂😂😂
The mini van driver was running away from a pissed 😡 off jimmy
Yep, a VERY pissed off one. And is DEFINITELY NOT in mood. Angry about something, like lost to a drag race or something.
Imagine cranking this up at 3:00 am and driving through a subdivision.
+David Vermillion My neighbor deserves this after harassing me for five years with her radio echoing all over my neighborhood all day just to harass me
How can anyone not love the sound of a screamin' Detroit?!
The most efficient way to turn diesel fuel into noise. I love it!
Man, this got my rollin! Awesome sound that never should've eliminated! Thanks to all of you folks that restore trucks with such majestice music!

This is the sound of all-American badassery.
I grew up near a hill just off of the hi-way.

Wow that mini van sounds good!! haha but seriously the truck sounds great!

Me too to all.

Nothing like a "screaming Jimmy"!
That sound reminds me of my childhood in the early 70s as the coal trucks pulled the hills and flew by my house night and day.
There isn’t any 2 stroke Detroit flying anywhere they are also terrible hill pullers !
If I ever get a cell phone, THAT'S my ring tone, still the greatest sound around
Takes me back to when I was a kid and could here dad on his way home from miles away. Thanks for the memory😊
That was my first thought damn I've never seen a Chrysler minivan with a Detroit.
Perhaps shoehorn in a 3-53?
If that was a cop in the end and was napping I bet the truck woke him up lol
"238 : the fastest sounding slow thing you'll ever drive" .

Jeffrey Gardner 😂😂😂
Damn it’s not very often I remember seeing a 6-71, especially in a Cracker Box, with dual stacks! Usually it’s always a 8V-71 but nevertheless it sounds great!
Its amazing how for almost the entire video, you hear it clear as day, yet you dont see the damn truck until 0:50
If I had a cell phone, that would the world's most BAD ASS RING TONE!!! Doesn't sound like a lawn mower OR a goddamned vacuum cleaner.Just plain old good.
That minivan sure made that truck angry, alrighty!!! Thing is, we don't know how it happened.
He doesn't need an air horn. That screaming Detroit lets you know he's coming for miles.
when i was about 5yr old my uncle gave me a ride in his crackerbox and i thought i was on top of the world the thing was so high. that was the day i wanted to become a driver and as soon as i was able, i got my license and for 35yr i was proud to be a driver. millions of accident free miles and was a fun time, todays trucking is just not for me anymore, to many wannabe drivers that want to be home everyday. wish they had some gonads and would be a driver like we all use to be, be gone most of the week or stay out as long as you want, no that is driving

This is truly the poster child of a DRAGANDFLY truck. Drag up the hill and fly down them.
Reminds me of the "Pigpen" Moose and Benji drove in "Movin' On".
RIP Art Metrano
LOL, even after having read the title, for a split second I still thought the minivan was straight piped 🤣😂
oh man, I thought for sure he was pulling a flat bed with 27 ton of steel on!
God Damn!! That is the loudest 671 I've ever heard!!
@Trucker5933;
I have the same kind of memories, but in my neck of the woods, they were hauling steel out of Weirton, WV and Midland, PA.
what a heavenly sound !
Love that old screamin jimmy sound! Long live the 71 series
Still come back to listen to this every week.
Still one of the best Detroit vids
Damn that sounds good. Love the truck, thanks for sharing the vid.
if that was a modern day truck you wouldnt able to hear it. you could hear this coming from a mile away
nice. i begged my grampa for this 46 white flatbed i played in as a kid. itll be re-powered with a 671 or even 653 and a spicer soon. will be a great working toy. anyone who knows these can hear them miles away. sweet sound.

P S my 3 year old grandson comes running every time he heres it great job
What a beast! Nothing sounds like a Detroit!
I'd probably rather this truck been in the "Duel" movie chasing Dennis Weaver. Sounds Mean!!!!!
I love it...wish like hell I had one
The best part is it must have been out in the open part of the country where jake brakes aren't taboo, the car at the end of the clip is a cop car with the antenna, but he pulled over to video tape it and share the glorious sound with us on youtube, instead of pulling the guy over for the sound.
That Minivan is trying to drive away from that 671 chasing after it lol
That's a good looking truck!
My neighbor had a red and black Crackerbox when I was a kid, I remember pulling the Burns hill with him loaded with sawdust, heading to the charcoal plant, she sounded like a fighter jet,but we we lucky to be doing 15 or 20 Mph!
Ooooh the beauty of straight pipes
Shoutout from TAT Express out of Hutchins, TX
My first reaction was someone has added sound to the minivan then I saw the truck 😆
Soooo nice badass sound!!! Love those detroits!!! 😍
Now that's intimidating on the road.

Wow,the guy in
the minivan must have thought that the wrath of God was coming up behind him!😊

That’s music to my ears
Haha, used to lay in my backyard as a kid on sunday nights and listen to the locals heading westz could hear them old detroits going down the whole valley. Thats what gave me the fever.
Damn Crackerboxes ALWAYS had that characteristic 2 stroke "Dee-Troyt Dee-Sell" engine sound!
Gota love that sound
Sounds awesome!!!
Love it. I keep turning it up
One of the best detroit videos on RUclips, the other one is with this truck using the Jake down the hill ;)
The scream Detroit made for making noise. 👍
Dang this could take all day 😁
Hilarious, you can tell the mini van driver was thinking,"Holy shit, it's big, bad, and haulin' ass!!!" Good vid, fun for every one : )
Seriously frightening!
For a second I thought it was the minivan that was screaming
Me 2
I'd be so scared if I was in that van lol yeah my uncle has a couple of 35 ton groves with detroits in them. I used to here them coming through town all the way from our farm haha
I thought that was a remake of the movie, "Duel"- only using a Dodge Caravan for the original Dodge Dart, and a GMC Crackerbox for a Peterbilt!
jeeeezus! that sound!
love that!!!
Awesome sound lol
Thats what a truck is supposed to sound like.
yeah! that minivan had a scared look on its face!
and the crackerbox was cooking! and smoking too!
very mean!
I too would be scared if that thing was chasing me like that lol
I'm putting one of these engines in my 1981 gmc crew cab
Got a woody hearing that again
Music to my ears
I have an eargasm!!!!!!
The mini van driver is running away from a pissed 😡 off jimmy

That truck is the balls.
