Also, "He was scared to go home every night" (the lyric along those lines) refers to the bully being scared to go home because of his abusive father. -The boy is richer and better off than the bully -The boy's astronaut helmet is symbolic of protection. The boy has the helmet on because he needs protection from the bully. -At the end, he takes of his helmet, and hands it to the bully. This is a symbolic guesture symbolizing the boy's realization that the bully needs protection more than him (from the dad), as he is a witness of the dad's abuse -The time is night, possibly visually presenting the idiom, "at the end of the day", which translates to "ultimately", in essence. SO "At the end of the day" the boy is protected, because he has a safer house, and the bully can hurt him all he wants, but the boy will be safer, and have a better future. When he says “come the lighting and the thunder, you’ll the one who’ll suffer” and “I know you want the satisfaction it’s not going to happen”I think he’s referring by to how later in life, the bullies will be the ones who suffer is they continue down this path of abuse and violence and that even tho they beat him up, he’s not going to give in and give them the satisfaction of making him angry or upset. The "helmet" is actually the bubble. The kid gave it to the bully because he was showing him who the true boy in the bubble was. Everyone thought it was the kid with glasses, but the whole time it was the bully who felt alone and oppressed.

I'm five years late to this song I guess but I discovered this song at the right time and the being the bigger person message and standing up to your enemies or bullies really meant a lot to me. The storytelling and catchy chorus and relatability to every kid or teenager who was ever bullied is what make this song one of my top favorites.
When he gives him the helmet at the end it’s like... wow. alec's songwriting is underappreciated. yeah, his voice is unique and really nice to listen to, but if you pay attention to the lyrics he uses a lot of metaphors and figurative language. not a lot of mainstream music today has this type of meaning in the lyrics. alec's songs always tell a story and unlike telling it directly he likes us to interpret it and i think that's amazing. he really deserves more recognition.

It’s a great ending, it really shows that the people who act the strongest are the weakest ones inside. They think putting down other people will make them feel bigger, but when it comes to the end, they’re the ones who end up suffering

I do understand your point, but just because someone is acting stronger doesn’t mean they are weaker. The word stronger could be physically or mentally. Can we just talk about the meaning of the lyrics of a sec? I love how Alec talks about abuse. Sometimes the main cause of bullying is the bully being abused at home. They grow up, the only thing they know is violence, and most of the times they do it to take out the anger they have inside of them. Alec also mentioned it doesn't excuse his actions, but it does explains why he (the bully) do it. I'm five years late to this song I guess but I discovered this song at the right time and the being the bigger person message and standing up to your enemies or bullies really meant a lot to me. The storytelling and catchy chorus and relatability to every kid or teenager who was ever bullied is what make this song one of my top favorites.
When he gives him the helmet at the end it’s like... wow. This kid has beat him up before, but has the compassion and the maturity to realize that “there’s no excuse for the things he did but there’s a lot at home that he’s dealing with.” So he gives him his helmet. Can we just talk about the meaning of the lyrics of a sec? I love how Alec talks about abuse. Sometimes the main cause of bullying is the bully being abused at home. They grow up, the only thing they know is violence, and most of the times they do it to take out the anger they have inside of them. Alec also mentioned it doesn't excuse his actions, but it does explains why he (the bully) do it. I got bullied too, but I always try to understand my bullies and I pity them for dealing with it all alone.
